Wow, ive never seen those vids, in that good of quality. everyone has to remember that helio was about 30 pounds less than kimura and about 15 years older so,… have him fight rickson now, there about 15 years apart. what is the difference?

I didn’t forget. Helio’s loss to Kimura was the last time a Gracie lost until Royler lost. One of the reasons that particular fight is the stuff of legends.

What a great video! Thanks so much for posting this. There was some seriously nice jiu-jitsu in this clip. Cool to see footage of the Gracie family in that 60 year period when no one with the name Gracie lost to a fighter from another discipline. That all came to an end at Pride 8 though, when Kazushi Sakuraba beat Royler Gracie.

I found a really cool 25 minute interview with Helio Gracie from the late 1990’s floating around the internet. Maybe it could be posted on mmatko.com… If you don’t know the history of the Gracie family, you really don’t know that much about the history of MMA.

hehe! After reading the first comment I came directly to write, but it seems you guys gave Gerbil a lesson already.
Anyway; a little bit of history. In fact the “Heróis do Ringue” can be said as the start for everything MMA competition in these days. Vale Tudo was older than that but not yet televised. The Gracies introduced that competition to tv back on 60’s and after that, this sport started to be known. Nonetheless to say, was a Gracie and another guy who created the UFC as a copy of the Brazilian vale tudo.
