Dude, even though it’s a no closed fist rule, it’s still very devastating. Palm strikes are a hell of a lot more concussive than a fist, they’ll knock you out faster for sure. This is the style of fighting legends like Bas Rutten and Frank Shamrock started in, it’s pretty dangerous. Open palm strikes are actually illegal blows in the vast majority of MMA organizations due to how dangerous they can be, so don’t knock it.

I haven’t liked Gilbert Yvel since I saw him deliberately gouge Don Frye’s eyes repeatedly at an old Pride event. He’s a dirty, unscrupulous fighter.

These rules are funny. No closed-hand punches, but knees and kicks are just fine. It looked like Yvel was trying to throw some elbows too, but I don’t know if those are legit or not.

I doubt it’s do to a rule, they were not wearing gloves as someone else mentioned earlier more than likely they were trying to avoid breaking their hands.

Hey sunfish did you just say open palm strikes can knock you out faster? Are you retarded or maybe you just didn’t see the video (maybe both). How many full force slaps did you see in that video? At one point I saw Joop rear back and blasted Gilbert with a spectacular bitch slaps in the face and didn’t even flinch. If that had been a punch, they’d be carting that dude of the ring. The knock out came from fatigue and knees, kicks and punches to the body. I don’t even know why they bother to defend the slaps or even waste energy slapping. I’m sure it stings like hell but it wouldn’t really do much damage except your ego. I would have just concentrated on throwing hooks and knees to the body and leg kicks.
also….Ri-ot said he doubts its a rule that fists aint allowed, that they just slapped to protect their hands from being broken….is this a joke,
i feel like sunfish and ri-ot are trolling…saying that palm strikes are more concussive and will knock you out faster is stupid…if this was true why do people all over the world close their fist and throw punches in fights? Why can people with 12 oz gloves and a closed fist KO people?
