Log in to Reply Sean Wooldridge July 12, 2009 First off, I was actually really impressed with Alves. We haven’t seen anybody who is able to get out from under GSP like that. It’ll be interesting to see the rematch. I really hope GSP didn’t tear a ligament. If he did, that’s bad news. I’m dealing with that right now and it takes FOREVER to get back to 100%. That is especially bad for somebody who is as explosive and trains as hard as he does. If it was a ligament, I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t fight again this year. Log in to Reply Risingsun July 12, 2009 The two fighters in the ring took it very seriously and trained hard to win the fight. I give them a big round of applause for that! GSP totally dominated Alves. Don’t forget that Alves had about 20-25 pounds more than GSP so it maked it easier for him to get out from under GSP. I still give Alves credit for showing us his ability to do it. GSP is strong like a horse (look at his legs compared to his body) an even with a groin injury (3rd round) he dominated Alves the next 2 rounds. That is quite impressive. I’m also impressed that no ones brought up the “Vaseline Gate” ;-). GSP proved to the world and also to those frustrated fighters who claimed that GSP cheated, that he is a true fighter and that only hard work can bring you to the top and stay there. Go GSP Go! Log in to Reply Cereser! July 12, 2009 GSP IS A BEAST!!! Hey Bruno, upload the Coleman-Bonnar fight plz!!! Cheers! Log in to Reply Niv July 12, 2009 GSP is a beast without a doubt. Alves should have been his toughest fight yet, but GSP showed once again that he’s on a different level. Alves is a really good fighter but he didn’t have an answer for GSP in any aspect of the fight. It was predictable and if GSP didn’t hurt his groin in the 3rd round it may not have gone to a decision. The question now wil be is there anyone in his weight class that stands a chance now? I don’t think so. Log in to Reply gummo-815 July 12, 2009 hit him with your groin . . . you got my mentality . . . lmao Log in to Reply white hamster July 12, 2009 i had it a split decision, but pierre still winning. alves will be back and bigger next time. Log in to Reply Mesonto July 12, 2009 No more excuses for the GSP bashers. GSP beat the larger stronger man this night. No vaseline bullshit. It was an interesting fight, but GSP was better on his feet than Alves and on the ground. And the only reason that Alves got off his back was because of his pure strength. I agree with Sean; that pulled groin will sideline GSP for the next year. I cannot believe how well he did for the 2.5 rounds he fought with that groin pull. Log in to Reply dabrewz July 12, 2009 Where are the vaseline haters???!! People always have an excuse for people that GSP destroys, BJ is only 170 when he fights, Alves cuts way too much weight, PEOPLE-GSP is the best pound for pound fighter period, along with Anderson, end of story Log in to Reply Mulch July 12, 2009 GSP is truly a great MMA fighter. He brings class, skill, and a love for the sport. And I really enjoy watching his fights. Nice job once again by GSP. Who is next? Log in to Reply mpride2p July 12, 2009 GSP completely dominated alves, he won every round of that fight, he is hands down the number one pound for pound fighter in the world ( Tied with Fedor E). GSP has mastered every aspect of MMA far greater than any other fighter in the sport as of now. Alves was the number one contender in the welterweight division and GSP completely dominated him… I dont know what GSP’s next move might be but it’s obvious no one is taking his belt anytime soon but if he keeps winning dana white has stated that there could be a possible GSP vs Anderson silva fight in the future Log in to Reply dayzaway July 12, 2009 GSP never comes out to fight, he comes out to Rub up all over you and tries to just stay on you the whole time. I am sick of UFC letting LAY and dry hump specialist like Clay Guida, Jon Fitch, and GSP HOLD DOWN THEIR OPPONENTS THE WHOLE ROUND WITHOUT CAUSING ANY SORT OF DAMAGE. GSP CONSTANTLY WENT FOR TAKE DOWNS HE WAS ACTING LIKE A BITCH, This made Thiago Tenative and unsure about his punches. I hated watching thiago attack hard only to see GSP duck under everytime to tackle and attempt to kiss him. GSP SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A FINED OR DQ’ed for STALLING and avoiding contact the whole point of a fight. Please Ban and take GSPs fighting rights for greasing up inbetween rounds constantly ANYONE WHO CALLS THIS A DOMINATING PERFORMANCE IS A GSP BALL LICKING PRICK. CHAMPIONS DONT TAKE YOU DOWN AND TRY TO KISS YOU FOR 5 ROUNDS THEY ****EN FINISH FIGHTS. I’d pay 4 times the price they were asking just for the brutal knockout that Hendo put on Pissbing (intentional). I am so sick of that cocky brit douche bag… mouth shut now! LOL GSP is a juggernaut! He’s always been my number one fighter under 200, and this was just another in a long list of azz whoopings that solidifies his spot amongst the best p4p fighters in the world. Disappointed to see Lesnar with the W, but I guess that’s the way it goes. I’m not convinced he’s a legit fighter still… just cruising by on freaky size, strength and speed. I wanna see him trade with another goliath… one like Carwin. Of course it would be nice to see Fedor eat him alive… maybe it will happen?! But hell… hats off to GSP on this one, he’s a friggin beast!!! and such a classy dude. He’s a perfect ambassador for the UFC. Big kudos to Alves as well, he’s tough as hell. Log in to Reply leroy July 12, 2009 Boring…GSP sucks. his style is the most boring in the UFC. Then he made all these excuses about why he can’t fight Silva. what a puss. Log in to Reply nb July 12, 2009 Maybe Im just paranoid because of Grease gate, but did they put something in with his mouthpiece with the other hand ?? isnt it strange storing a mouthpiece in your pocket ?? Log in to Reply thaddiusluster July 12, 2009 another dubious fight made possible by the ufc. How can anyone be impressed with either of these guys? 1st off let me explain how the ufc operates: they consistently flood their ranks with many of these less than stellar/elite foreign fighters the likes of: Alves, Akiyama, T.Silva, Okami, Yoshida, P.Thiago etc. Mainly so their GSP’s, Koscheck’s and other marketable English speaking fighters could shine and look reputable by defeating their over-matched foreign competitors. Don’t buy into this ufc hype B.S. The terrible truth is that MMA simply doesn’t exist here in the U.S.A. due to these awful commissions and their biased boxing oriented personnel like: vana white & rat ratner. ufc is NOT MMA! Log in to Reply The Black Swordsman July 12, 2009 yo are you three idiots the same dude ? or are there really three people stupid enough to say the shit that you say ? Thiago Alves is less than Stellar ? His career record is 22-5 and he beat 3 top 10 welterweights just to get this fight … ufc is not mma ? there is no mma in the u.s ? what the **** are you talking about you wanna watch kick boxing watch ****ing K-1 … you wanna watch boxing go dust off your old tapes …the point of a fight is to win … so since none of these “foreign guys” are good enough who the **** do you want St. Pierre to destroy next … he just beat a guy whos 5’10 200 lbs solid who knocked out 6 of his last 7 opponents … you want him to fight a guy in Anderson Silva who’s 4 inches taller and weights 40 lbs more than him ? You dudes can eat the same diseased dick … stop talkin out your ass Log in to Reply Sean Wooldridge July 12, 2009 thaddiusluster, what fighters have you seen who you would favor over GSP that we have never heard of? Surely they have youtube vids or something. Are you saying that there is some underground league where all of the real fighters go? There was, it was called Pride. Log in to Reply asdf July 12, 2009 I also thought that gsp’s style has gone down hill. Yeah he wins, but he didn’t go for a single sub that whole 5 rounds. I remember gsp when he would sub you ko you gnp you! not just take down. I guess he went for a rear naked twice but it didn’t look like he was trying to finish it at all. Log in to Reply Mike July 13, 2009 Dayzaway: You must have a real bad case of stupidity or A.D.D or maybe both. GSP did not lay there, he was constantly working for the mount or a better position every time he took Alves down. It’s just Alves defended it well with pure strength. This happens sometimes when you have 2 good fighters fighting. If you want pure stand up fighting then go watch boxing. I can’t stand idiots like you that mouth off and have no clue what the sport is about. Log in to Reply rocky July 13, 2009 i thought the fight was impressive george looked even better he beat on his feet and on the ground WOW!!!!! lol this is mma daysway not k1 lol if u have a problem with the ground then i suggest u shouldnt be watchin mixed martial arts lol jus i sugesstion u think about the rest hahaha o man Log in to Reply leroy July 13, 2009 Th sport is about styles. GSPs style is a snoozefest. I rather watch Guida or Sam Fisher or any other guy that really wants to fight. Log in to Reply bobinho July 13, 2009 gsp v anderson silva at a catch weight of 180 pounds it’s going to happen gsp can’t get much bigger and would be a tiny middleweight ala penn at welterweight. also silva weighed in well under the 185 limit in his last fight. therefore the obvious fight is 180 Log in to Reply dharmaboy July 13, 2009 Anyone bashing GSP. Fight plan = stay away from your opponents strengths and stay with what you are good at. if anyone can’t understand that concept you need to get your ass handed to you in the ring and maybe you will change your tactics. now shut the **** up, go train, step into the ring and then maybe say something. like Silva, why the hell would put willingly put yourself infront of a gun to get taken down. makes no sense. Juveniles commenting on this site is amazing. Log in to Reply unclerobb49 July 13, 2009 Oh, and Brock? He’s fraud with a tad more skills than Kimbo Slice, but he’ll fall without ONE DECENT DEFENSE and as they say…he ain’t a champ until he defends his belt. Third fight? Why not. Big Bitch Boy needs his ass wacked just for his fag-move to not touch gloves. Can anyone spell Fedor? I doubt he can beat Cain or Carwin either. Log in to Reply whitey July 13, 2009 dayzaway, Let me get this right, you’re upset b/c St. Pierre kept taking down your boy in an mma fight. What the hell do you think “mixed” stands for? This ain’t a karate championship, genius. GSP landed some good shots from the top position, and Alves was bloody, bruised, and swollen after the fight. The UFC is pretty good about standing up a ground situation when no damage or good submission work is going on. Log in to Reply Danby July 13, 2009 Lesnar would kill gsp. Lesnar is now god.(sarcasm/) Log in to Reply ts1 July 13, 2009 Technically superior. Class act, and classy fighter. Log in to Reply thaddiusluster July 13, 2009 stop dreaming with the catch weight issue; if anything it’s Spider Silva that has trouble making 185, so what would be the point of dehydrating to make 180 for a preposterous fight against GSP? With the passage of time and age the body changes, increasing muscle mass and making it excruciatingly difficult to make a prior weight one would reach with ease. (e.g. Gegard Mousasi) Log in to Reply alfredunhill July 13, 2009 I think GSP fighting Anderson at a catch weight is an interesting matchup, and that he would do well..I imagine he would basically do what he did here, namely utilizing his superior wrestling and top control and punishing Silva with knees to the body…the question becomes would he stay standing just a second too long and get caught, and could he be sweeped on the ground, reversed, and ultimately take shots. What is clear to me is that if he gets caught and dazed or stunned, it’s a wrap..Silva’s striking is just that good, and that’s why I think the match-up is so interesting….can GSP stay completely focused and mistake free for 5 rounds…if yes he wins, one slight miscalculation, and he loses…very interesting… Log in to Reply alexsayhi July 13, 2009 GSP is getting boring to watch. He s on his way to become a boring wrestler who doesn t finish fights. Very disapointing performance. All he does is he throws a few jabs and if the other guy wants to go at it, he takes him down and lays on top of him. Definitely not the type of fights that i enjoy watching. Log in to Reply dabrewz July 14, 2009 Who are all these idiots on here that keep saying Gsp has no skill and is boring and does no damage?? Did anyone see Alves’s face after that fight? He got destroyed on the ground and on the feet. He was dropped twice and elbowed out the whole fight?? No one can ever compare to GSP in 170. Rubing up on dudes?? What does that mean, BJ had to quit, Fitch looked like he was in a horror movie, and Alves’ face was so swollen he really is a pitbull now. GSP is the #1 P4P fighter in the world right now, and everyone knows it. Anderson has been weak the last 2 fights against no names(Cote and Leites) and Fedor hasn’t faced a real threat in 5 fights. GSP fights top 10 p4p fighters every fight. GSP needs to keep rubbing up on dudes I guess, because hes destroying guys doing it Log in to Reply wtf July 14, 2009 ppl saying gsp sucks bcuz he countered Alves big punches with takedowns…WTF WOULD U DO? Log in to Reply wtf July 14, 2009 LOL Lesnar would kill GSP of course he would 265 vs 170 lol GSP might pull out a win did u know hes magic. Log in to Reply onewayticket July 14, 2009 WOW im amased at the type of Idiots that watch MMA…how can u say ur a fan of a sport if you dont understand the sport? MMA is 100 % strategy thats y its called MIXED martial arts. every one has their own style if everyone fought the same…it would be K1, boxing, or wrestling…but since its MMA you have to have a tactic to win the other Style ….HOWEVER you do it… and also all the fighters that tried to amuse Idiot fans like you end up getting KNocked the **** out cuz they think about amusing the fan instead of winning. Log in to Reply Womens Liberation Front July 15, 2009 The winner of Swick vs. Kampmann should get the next title shot. Log in to Reply ogkush86 July 15, 2009 GSP is real good but lately he’s just like matt, all he does is take them down and make it a wrestling match. just like i dont want to see K-1 i dont want to see wrestling i want 2 SEE AN MMA MATCH. man he changed after serra put him to shame the first fight. but like he said he does what he need to win even if its not exciting at all but hes winning so idont see him going back to his old exciting self anytime soon. Log in to Reply ogrish July 16, 2009 It’s kinda funny how much criticism GSP gets even in a dominating win. Yet people praise Alves for showing heart. Shouldn’t things be the other way around?? Shouldn’t Alves receive more heat for being the #1 contender and doing absolutely nothing this fight? Alves was suppose to have great TD defense but was takendown at will. He was suppose to be the greatest striker in the division and lands absolutely nothing and gets knocked down himself. He is feared for his aggressiveness and his finishing prowess, yet finds himself way behind entering 5th and doesn’t go balls to the wall to try to win. Does being outclassed deserve reverence? Log in to Reply TheMainGuy604 July 16, 2009 First of ALL… GSP hardly won that fight i don’t know what you all are watching but thiago got out of everything he did and personally i think he had better stand up to..
