GSP looks to be unbeatable at the moment. Matt Sarra was TOO DAMN LUCKY that he caught GSP at a time he had a lot of personal issues and got a LUCKY win. I can bet good money that, if GAP and Matt Sarra meet for another 100 times, GSP will win, decisively, every single time.
It was gonna go down like this I think we all new. GSP is definitely a different fighter then he was in the first fight. He was confident coming in to the fight and knows he has the style to beat Hughes. This kinda of sucked cuz I really wanted to see Serra vs Hughes. The whole tuf show was basically a waste since the heat the 2 built up never got settled. Now GSP is gonna beat up Serra and the chipmunk face is gonna have it in his head the Serra was scared to fight um. Well Ill tell you what makes me feel alot better about all of this. I agree with Sancho. Dana should arrange a “settle the score” fight between Sarra and Hughes. That is if there will be anything left of Sarra after GSP is through with him

This was a good fight… It shows that when debating the best pound per pound fighters GSP should be mentioned. In my opinion he is a way better MMA fighter than Anderson Silva. GSP has ahd a couple of losses but so has Silva, and Silva’s losses show how much he lacks grappling abilities. Watching GSP you see a complete all around fighters, and he utilizes all his skill, he’s dangerous on his feet and on the ground. Unfortunately I can’t say the same for Silva. The only flaw in GSP’s game was mental… I think he was too good of a guy, and sometimes that hindered his killer instincts. But after this fight I see he has finally established himself mentally, and now he knows that he is as good as every one says he is. GSP is here!
I can see a Serra VS Hughes fight. After GSP beats Serra I can see Dana pimping the issue. I mean Wandi Vs Liddell was still a draw even though they weren’t champs anymore. So Hughes Vs Serra will happen.

I don’t think Silva has a weakness in grappling. He’s a BJJ blackbelt with improving takedown defense. He submitted Lutter, outgrappled Marquardt, and worked to his feet easily against Franklin. He also has long limbs which he uses well. He’s going to be tough to beat.
But yes, GSP is looking absolutely dominant. I think Fitch is really the only guy who could maybe hang with him at this point.
GSP is awesome… i was afraid the short prep time would screw him but obviously it didnt. As 4 anderson silva… I dont understand how this misconception of him being a bad fighter on the ground started. He has a black belt in bjj from nogueira, and has only lost twice via submission. One of the submissions was a freak accident as well being taken out with a scissor leg take down into a heel hook.
GSP definitely dominated this fight but I still have to give a lot of credit to hughes. He definitely could have taken an easy fight when serra punked out but he took GSP when they offered him up. Matt Serra doesn’t deserve that belt he really is a nobody. I feel bad hughes won’t be the one to prove it but I’m sure GSP is going to show serra what the deal is. Hughes will be back but I just don’t think he’ll ever get that belt from GSP big ups to Illinois!!!!

I hope that Hughes does not retire. I don’t know if he has any gas left, but he certainly needs to take a look at his training. He may need to reevaluate some things if he continues to fight. GSP certainly looked like a stud in this fight, but as we have seen, he can be beat.
What a fight complet domination,GSP looked bigger, stronger and like the previus 2 fights more athletic. The diffrence in this fight was the show of growth in skill, power, speed and coffidence in him.Thanks for the video
The photo at the top of this page says it all; GSP looking every bit the young ferocious elite MMA fighter that he is and looks to be in an incredible shape. Compared to GSP, Hughes looks like a senior citizen who’d be much better off watching jeopardy on his favorite rocking chair, lol!

gsp is the best fighter in his division anywhere in the world. matt hughes should consider retiring from fighting. he’s got nowhere else to go and he has to go thru gsp to get back on top, somehow i don’t see that happening. gsp is going to be the champ again. he is only 26 and has years ahead of him. he is scary, he can really do it all. hughes had no chance. i really expected a tko by ref stoppage. hughes should thank gsp for that submission, at least he saved some face.

No doubt Matt Hughes would have beaten Matt Serra, but unfortunately he had to take the fight with George. I don’t think that Hughes is any worse than he’s ever been (he proved that with a dominant performance over ‘Lights Out’). Its just simply because George is too good.
I hope that Hughes doesn’t decide to retire just yet, as I think despite him being a repulsive ego-maniac, he still has a lot to offer the UFC in terms of ability. However, with such a dominant fighter as Pierre around, I really don’t see where else Hughes can go. Certainly not back for the title. Arguably, now would be good time for him to hang up his gloves.

Matt needed better training facility, especially if you guys remember th UFC 79 countdown hillsboro IL is not like Montreal Canada, US government should be pro-active and sponsor this fight and prepare Matt better to fight GSP our fellow french canadian which I do not think he is smart ( he even does not know how to talk ).
I am sorry but this is my openion, I did not know matt in this match and I am a big fan for him, matt hughes could do a lot better if he had better preparation, remember he had more than 40 fights and he was champ for 9 times.
Now, having said that; this is a hint for Serra to be prepared, this GSP is a real animal who needed a smart well prepared to smash him down.

I really don’t understand all the Serra hate. He won the fight. Call it fluky, but a win is a win. There isn’t anything “undeserving” about the win. What will people say if Serra should win again? Probably the same thing. In my opinion, GSP is going to steamroll him the next time but there is way too much Serra hate. He got a title shot, he won. What do you want from him?

Guys! I am not fanatic to USA but it is a full right to be a big fan to the fighters from your country and find the weak points in fights like matt vs gsp to critisize. what happened was a disaster that we felt nothing but pain and no enjoment. I would be happier if the fight went through the whole 5 bouts and with more excitment even if matt lost after it but at least not being dominant like this….
Imagine how many guys in the entire world would a lot better even than gsp with the proper training circumstances

I new GSP had some judo in his backgroung. It was a great throw, great control and a great harmbar. Hughes is a fantastic fighter I like him, but GSP had his number.
For the money, GSP will beat Serra, then Hughes VS Serra will fight. My money will be on Hughes in that fight.
I love GSP’s tight bum, i couldn’t stop thinking about it during the fight, that is why I lost.

i was tryin to watch the fight at a party but it didnt work. now im a huge matt hughes fan hes awesome i dont think anyone could argue that u know. but gsp did go threw hughes. i dunno what happened. i think matt looked really slow compared to usual and he looked almost dead when he finally got control, he didnt even try anything. sometimes i wondder about ufc cuz hughes shoulda done alot better. i dont really get why he fought so bad…. my opinion.
GSP has proved (for those hwo needed proof) that he’s in a different league from Matt Hughes. It’s not even close. Like Hughes put it himself after the fight; GSP is simply the better fighter. Trying to find execuses for Hughes by blaming his training facility is laughable!
As much as I hate Matt Hughes I think MMA the UFC in particular needs a******* like him and Tito Ortiz to sell fights. It can’t all be good guys and good sportsmanship, that’s boring. I hope Hughes doesn’t retire because I’d like to see him get his ass beat some more.
GSP is getting a lot of praise right now for beating Matt Hughes again but don’t forget he’s a champion by default. Matt Serra dominated GSP not to long ago and I believe he’ll dominate him again. I like to compare the GSP/Hughes rivalry to the Liddell/Couture rivalry. GSP and Liddell both loss to their respective rivals but once they figured them out they dominated them. While this kind of throws my theory off that Serra would beat GSP again, I think certain fighters just have other fighters numbers. Styles make fights and it can also make one fighter dominant over another.

Hughes is a relic from an older UFC when fighters could get by just wrestling. Hughes hasn’t adapted at all since UFC 34, he shouldnt even be fighting still. i’ve never even seen him connect with a punch

I love it when someone loses and the whole world overreacts. Hatton loses and everyone forgets he was one of the top, lb for lb fighters in the world and now Hughes loses and more of the same. Hughes could still beat Koscheck and Sanchez. I think he would have a good chance against John Fitch and Karo Parisyan. I def want to see him fight Serra though…
I’m a big GSP and Fitch fan, but frankly, Fitch wouldn’t stand a chance. Fitch is smart and has great technique, but he’s neither fast enough nor athletic enough to cope with GSP. Fitch was impressive against Sanchez, but in his other fights, he doesn’t dominate his opponents the same way GSP does. To me, I see GSP as setting a new standard of fighting for the next generation of mma fighters to follow after him. The match-up I’d love to see is, though not in the UFC nor in the same weight class, is GSP vs. Genki Sudo.

Matt Hughes is at the same crossroads as Rich Franklin. They can beat or compete with everyone else in their respective divisions except for one guy. Do you continue beating other guys and act as a gatekeeper? Can you find the motivation to fight these other guys?
I don’t see moving up a weight class benefitting Hughes either. Is he going to beat Silva? Henderson? Maybe a Bisping-Hughes fight would be entertaining. Maybe he just fights Serra and calls it a career.
like ive been hearing b.s from my friends cause they keep making excuses for matt hughes. let me set the record straight. GSP only had 1 month to prepare for the fight and preety sure Matt had 3 months to train. Face it GSP is the best fighter in his devision in the world. Matt hughes to me will always be one of the greatest welterweights ever, if not the greatest. But lets face it GSP is just the better fighter. I also feel bad for Matt Serra cause GSP is coming for blood. All the talk we herd about how Hughes was going to destroy Serre. I would love to have seen GSP in pride, he is wasting his talent in the UFC. Yes every one is saying that’s where the top contenders are blah blah blah…. But can any of you who had been watching pride for a long while imagine GSP in a ring?… fighting for a Japanese crowd (they respect the ground game more, therefore fighters don’t feel the pressure to keep the fight on their feet). I hope GSp loses to Serra and then signs with M-1. Hve any of you heard what type of contracts the UFC has with most of their fighters… it’s crazy, also the way they pay is crazy… liddell got $500,000 win or loose to fight Silva…. GSP got $160,000 50% to show and 50% if he won. Dana White is a typical slave driving jyw…. oh and the only fighter who wouldn’t double his purse with a win was Silva… a bit fishy… huh!
GSP4LIFE, You didn’t hear the crap talk that Serra said about GSP on sirius satellite radio on the bubba the love sponge show after he won the fight did you? If it smells like ass it must be Serra. Normally he is a good guy I must admit but he took it to a new level on that radio show.
As for Hughes retiring? Nah, find another weight catagory because you ain’t gonna get the title where GSP is. Its lame to be second best forever.

watch how GSP trains, not just weight training, he trains in all aspects of MMA all week. Kickboxing, boxing, judo and wrestling to name a few. He’s so good plus he’s humble, he has the heart of a true champ. I hope the fight with Serra will be a good one, not like the last one. GSP needs to take Serra down and utilize his ground game imho.

Hughes is too slow, always was… he’s style was a ground and pound, he’s not a stand up fighter. Miletich Fighting System is good but not complete. yeah the fighters are tough…but toughness doesn’t always make up for skills. I think the worse thing a fighter can do is stay in a camp for too long, look what happened to Sylva he left Chute Boxe, same with Q-jackson.. he left his training group. Change is good, Hughes should have left MFS long time ago, but his pro-America mentality didn’t let him accept the fact that there is more than just wrestling, if he had versed himself in many arts like GSP he would possess awesome skills…. Too bad MFS sets a glass ceiling for their fighters… every one knows what MFS is all about, so people know what to expect. Remember Miletich is an old school MMA fighter, with an old school redneck mentality.
Hey look at you Dirty 7-30, Im proud of you and it seems that you have said something smart for once. I agree with you that Hughes is simply a ground and pounder with decent submission skills, but he has def. taken some serious boxing lessons and come into a fight thinking much too highly of himself. Soon leading to a slight beating until he thought that it might be a good idea to take his opponent down and start winning. This has worked well for the most part but I too think that Matt should try something new in his training…maybe move off of the farm and train like a true fighter!!! He used to be a big and strong guy for his class but with St Pierre he stands no chance of over powering him. He needs something new in his arsenal and I’m not sure what. I must admit that Pierre completely dominated this fight and made Hughes look like Frank Trigg or something haha but ya I was def. not expecting Matt to get submitted by a kick boxer no matter how badly hurt he was.

What a fight! GSP OWNED Matt Hughes! At the press conference afterwards, GSP shows up in pinstripes, and Matt sits there looking like a whupped dog. I felt sorry for him.
Its interesting to finally see the UFC mature,for too long it has just been american wrestlers who fight someone with good stand up martial art skills but no ground game so most of the time the wrestler just took it to the ground and that was it but now with guys like Anderson Silva and the much improved GSP showing that you need both stand up and a great ground game these wrestlers have been left behind.Thats why wrestlers get dominated in real competitions like pride etc so they just stick to the UFC.
I great fighter knows how to use every part of his body to fight and sadly the wrestlers lack good striking skills apart from throwing bombs.How many guys has anderson silva taken out with elbows and knees and then how many has a guy like ortiz or hughes…No comparison.

Matt Hughes is my favorite fighter so i really wanted to see him stick it to the guy who has been talking all the smack who clearly is not a good fighter and got a lucky punch on GSP. Lots of respect for GSP and do believe he is the best welter weight of all now, but still pulling for hughes.

Personally, I like Huges, Serra and GSP. They are all gentlemen and great embassadors of the sport. Too bad Huges did not get his chance to fight Serra. He deserved it. Serra better be able to come up with another lucky punch. GSP rules!!!!

I would like to point out to all you Aint Pierre nut huggers. IT was 39 lucky punches that did in Aint Pierre in there fight. Thirty Nine uninterrupted flush head smashing “LUCKY” punches. the only reason Matt Serra isn’t still punching Aint Pierre still is because big John McCarthy took pity on Aint Pierre and pulled him off of the defenseless Aint Pierre. I repeat 39 uninterrupted punches, none of which were defended by George by the way. I didn’t count the two punches that started the demolition either because they were not flush but the jaw knocker right hook that did was the beginning of 39 devistating punches all “LUCKY” by the way so please slow down with the pound for pound talk a loss is a loss and this one cannot be explained by the GSP nuthuggary elite its not a lucky punch but a series of punches that show GSP is vulnerable to heavy hands and a strong shoot defense. he cannot only be vulnerable to LUCKY not 39 luckys either.
I do like GSP, but agree with you dillatantes. Serra did not back down and GSP did. And for the Hughes nut huggers… I spoke to Serra 1 week after he won the belt. He explained why he and Hughes don’t get along. They used to be cool, and then Hughes got the belt and his s*** stopped stinking. He would pass Serra, and when Serra would say hi… Hughes would just keep walking. Hughes is just classy on TV.

Thanks for the fight dude! Hughes was right when he said on TUF that this might be his last fight. His time has passed, along with the rest of the Militich camp, except for Rory Markham who fights in the IFL. Matt Hughes should finish while he is still somewhat ahead. He still has some good fights left in him, but probably against mediocre opponents. I don’t even think he could handle a koscheck or sanchez type of fighter, because his heart isn’t in it like it used to be in my opinion. But I’m a lover not a fighter so what do I really know anyway…

Thats the only punch that matters, thats the one that WON him the fight. I don’t know why you keep saying 39 like it means anything… Ever try and punch somebuddy after they’re already shaken up and seeing stars? not exactly a difficult task. A dizzy person, who can’t see straight is an easy target. The reason people say lucky is because statistically it’s unlikely that a shorter guy (Serra) is gonna land a close range punch (right hook) on a taller guy (GSP) when he has less reach. Not to mention all the other factors, like the fact that GSP has BLATANTLY displayed repeatedly that he’s the more gifted, talented and athletic fighter… Sorry if I sounded subjective just now but I love GSP and I sincerely believe he’s the future of the welterweight division. I’ll end this little rant by saying: We’ll see what happens April 19th…

Say what you want about ‘Aint Pierre’, sounds like anti-Canada stuff to me. I call it like I see it and St. Pierre has beaten an American UFC icon twice in Matt Hughes, not to mention BJ Penn and Josh Koshcheck. He’s earned his props. Everyone loses eventually so don’t give me this Matt Serra ’39 punches’ as if it were Muhammed Ali(?) ‘fly like a butterfly’ skillset that nobody has witnessed until that particular fight.

GSP is a greater fightr, no doubt about it, but Matt Hughes will alwys be the greatest welterweight there ever was and i think that fighting at his prime, matt hughes could have destroyed GSP but hes getting older now so its alot harder for him to keep getting in the octagon
The last Serra St Pierre fight came out exactly as expected. Serra was so outclassed, he looked like a newbie.
For those who say Matt Huges is washed up, Huges deserves all the kudos he gets for his performances over the years. Except for GSP, who else could beat him today? I hope he continues to fight. I would still love to see him fight Serra.
Like others, I think a great fight would be Anderson Silva and GSP. The problem is the weight class but, if they made it monetarily worth their while, we could see it.
Silva is almost as skilled as GSP and has ferocious knees and elbows. I would even give Silva a slight edge in standup. Both deadly dudes.

Its not about what country you come from but how much you train and what you know and how much heart you have. I am happy to see G.S.P representing Canada well in the ufc and too all these “aint pierre” talkers what does that even mean yall can blow some more dick for dollars I do respect Matt Serra for winning the first match but He is outclassed and outskilled. I have also seen Matt Hughes whoop many a chump but its just not happening anymore.
I am Canadian too and I have high regards for both Matt Serra and Matt Hughes. The UFC is an international sport and respect should be shown because their talents and not their origins. Enjoy them instead of mocking them because they are not from your neck of the woods.

Hughes got what he deserved. He was so happy when GSP lost to Serra that the only way GSP could restore his dignity would be by beating them both. Which he successfully did. Jon Fitch is next.

Wow what a completely embarrassing loss to matt hughes!!! Total and utter ownage, and to the fool who kept on going on about serra kicking gsp’s ass and the “39″ un answered punches, they were unanswered because gsp got caught behind the ear and his equalibrium was messed up. It was like shooting fish in a barrel, he was knocked out on his feet, any welter weight could have done the same after the first punch. April 19 everything was set right and serra was exposed as the joke that everyone with a brain knew he was. Gsp would destroy serra if they fought 100 more times like he would hughes, end of story.
matt hughes is my favorite fighter in the welter weight division and the entire ufc.but the one thing i cant stand is st. pierre.has to big of a mouth.talks to much crap.i cant wait until matt kicks his butt again
