BJ Penn is the next logical opponent for GSP, however, BJ should not look past Kenny Florian as Dana White has stated before that the winner of the Huerta-Florian bout will have the next shot for the lightweight title. After BJ beats Florian he’ll have no one else to fight but GSP. My money is on BJ to hold both belts.

Completely agree with tone.
It’s rare for me to thoroughly enjoy a fight that goes to the decision, but this was one hell of an exception. Possibly my favourite fight since Coutre vs Silvia.

It’s amazing how GSP dominates all of these world class wrestlers on the ground. I think when they feel his strength & can’t handle his athleticism they are just broken down mentally. To beat GSP, you have to back him up with hard jabs & punches like Serra did. If GSP comes forward, he will win.

i loved this fight, im happy they both got fight of the night bonuses especially fitch who fought his heart out. im sure a lot of other WWs would have quit after being knocked down like 4 times and having that much punishment put on them. gsp just seemed way too fast, his attack way to diverse for fitch; he really lived up to the label of “the complete fighter”

Fadadg, soccer kicks are banned due to their high potential to cause career ending injuries. And if a fighter like GSP were to soccer kick Fitch we would be without one less great fighter. I agree with the other fans that a rematch against BJ Penn would be great. BJ busted George up pretty badly in their last fight. No one has ever done that, even if he was outclassed overall. Anderson Silver has all of GSP’s skills and hits just as hard.

I agree with pretty much everything you guys have said so far. GSP is phenomenal, he appears to be getting better every time he fights which is amazing.

Kudos to Fitch, he is a freaking warrior but this fight basically went exactly as I expected (except for it going the distance).

Now to be nit picky here, how in the world did two judges manage to give Fitch a a single round in this fight? GSP dominated beginning to end taking it easy in the second round. But in that round he stuck a stiff jab into Fitch’s face non stop and Fitch managed nothing.

Either way BJ Penn is going to lose to GSP again, I don’t care what kind of shape he shows up in. Penn is a monster no doubt, but GSP is his kryptonite and he will destroy him.

Even in their first fight George was able to control Penn on the ground, and since then George has improved tremendously. The only thing that Penn has done is stepped up his cardio fought smaller, and less skilled fighters since he lost to George. BJ looked like a tubby bitch in the ring. Fitch’s chin and heart are unbelievable. I can’t wait to see BJ and GSP throw down again. The first time they fought BJ was cutting GSP up at first, but as was typical of him at the time he gassed. GSP ran away with it after that. He didn’t really damage BJ all that much, just out worked him. The thing to keep in mind is it’s a whole new BJ Penn he will be fighting this time. His strength and coditioning are were they should be now. GSP has improved quite a bit since then himself, but will it be enough?

I personally think this fight should have been stopped earlier. I thought it was great, and I thought Fitch was amazingly tough, but there were a few times where he could not fully defend himself intelligently. He would get dropped and just get whaled on. Nobody can question either of these two fighters talent but what I can’t question is that St. Pierre is the bigger fighter and the better athlete. I also have never seen him out of shape or unprepared physically for a fight … BJ Penn has all the natural talent in the world. I suspect GSP is on somekind of performance enhancer. It is inhuman to go that pace for that many rounds. I think the Canadians are somehow getting around the Doping methods.

First, GSP is not on any performance enhancer. He trains like a maniac and the specific plyometrics that he does require his complete mental capacity. Steroids turn you into a brainless idiot because it raises your testosterone levels and you are unable to think properly (example: Phil Baroni).

Second, GSP should fight Anderson Silva as soon as possible! That would be the biggest matchup in the history of the sport, even bigger than if Couture and Fedor were to face off. Along with Silva, Penn is ine of the most naturally talented fighters of all time, but unlike Silva, he relies on his natural ability too much and doesn’t worry about his cardio or his strength conditioning. If Penn trained as hard as GSP I think he could beat him, but I doubt that will happen, so let’s see a fight that showcases two fighters with the same work ethic.

i agree with all those who said penn should defend his title at least 2 more times. as far as im concern, he didnt even defend it once. not sure if that was an interim fight or whatever.. anyways. you cant just drop weight cuz u cant beat the 2 best guys and get the title of the lighter weight class as a shortcut to fight the champion in the higher weightclass. its like gsp wanting to fight silva right now. and silva wanting to fight big nog. just shouldnt happen. but whatever, dont matter. gsp fight stronger guys, while penn fight weaker guys. penn will lose

That was a great fight. Granted GSP put on a clinic, but Jon Fitch spiked at moments and also gave a good show by hanging in there. As far as the BJ Penn issue is concerned I’m disgusted. I’m such a fan of his ability, but how dare you do that to a champion as honorable as GSP after his first title defense (during this reign of course).
He just wanted to thank his trainers and sponsers and didn’t get the chance to, as a fellow UFC fighter BJ should know how important that is. GSP was clearly disrespected and still remained humble. I want to see his reign as champion last forever. It’s rare you see that kind of class in any sport. He’s a genuine martial artist…

The one thing that impressed me the most is GSP went for that heelhook probly in homeage to Ximu machado. He only had a couple of weeks to learn it in brazil from a real leglock master but he felt confident enough in his learning ability to test it out. He is always evolving.

George would like nothing better than to crack it off with BJ Penn. He has beaten him once already, even after he took an unintentional thumb to the eye, which the referee missed. I think to St.Pierre, BJ ranks right up along side Matt Hughes when it comes down to being a disrespectful little narcissist. GSP will SMASH Penn.
