UFC Champ GSP Still Using Gymnastics As A Big Part Of Training For Nick Diaz Fight.
with all this training this damn fight better not make it to the 2nd round or gsp seriously needs to give away his title
GSP by powerbomb
It takes 2 to tango. It’s not his fault that his opponents suck and are one dimensional.
Ok, I’m gonna try something new here.
GSP and his French Canadian accent, with chalked up hands, wearing tights, and doing gymnastics, is NOT gay in the least. No, seriously…
You know, people always talk about GSP not being able to finish fights. That really is only true for his last 5 fights or so; the (majority of) the rest were ko’s or sumbissions. I really hope that GSP starts that trend again and beats Diaz senseless before knocking or chocking him out.
So gsp is doing gymnastics and nick diaz is doing triathlons hmm interesting.
People hate on fighters like gsp? Why? the fights may not be the most entertaining but to be able to do the things he does! like dominate his opponents in their own game! not many can do that. i give him mad respect. and i still stand by word that GSP would win against silva. his wrestling and sub defence is to superior to any! not that the fight will ever happen…. but.
GSP should try Ninja Warrior, as for the fight come on Diaz heart is not in it lately. He wants to box or be tri athlete
In any event lets hope its a good fight
x training ftmfw. a win is a win, dont like it? get in there and try to defeat him
Brilliant. Bruce Lee was very strong because he did these exercises and had strength in his muscles at every angle.
Sure he didn’t finish Josh or Hardy but watching them get the fuch beat out of them for five rounds sucked for you guys?
Again fat guys who never trained criticize him for doing one of the most demanding activity(even if its extremely hard physically but i’ll never consider it a sport)out there but i bet they get tennis elbows from eating chips….
he better start to learn how to knock the F*** out of a guy because with all this trainings his fights will be 1000% more boring
Gymnastics is really hard and great for building muscles but I believe it is not the proper training for MMA. But we shall see bc GSP is brilliant. I still think it will play out like this…GSP will be scoring with fancy kicks and punches but Nick will take the beating and keep delivering counter shots and coming in. Eventually Nick’s tenacity and pressure will wear on GSP and either 1-GSP will go for the takedown and get caught in a submission or Nick catches him with his vicious combinations!!
Has anyone ever watched Mayhem Millers interview with Diaz ahahahahahahahahhaah…….. GSP by MIND BULLET
gsp by cartwheel, 2nd round.
Sick fight, can’t wait!!
Gymnasts are bad a$$e$ for real. Those guys are fricken ripped
There are only a tiny hand full of guys that you can say are revolutionary in the sport of MMA. You just watched a short video of one of them. Make jokes if you want, but GSP works as hard or harder than anyone in this sport to improve himself. Don’t be surprised when 5 or 10 years down the road you see a bunch of tattooed muscle-head bad asses rolling around on mats at your local gymnastics facility. This sport is ever evolving…and I love it.
They both have excellent conditioning, but I give the edge to Diaz. Diaz has the edge in striking as well as on the ground. GSP has the edge in the wrestling and that is all.
GSP will go for power shots to stun Diaz and directly go for the takedown to hold him there. That is why he is working on his strength, to overpower Diaz (knowing Diaz is not that strong)
GSP will also try and tire Diaz by pressing him on the cage.
I hope Diaz wins, as he is always exiting to watch vs GSP who is quite a bore. Diaz as champion would really create some exiting fights in the future.

He should also spend some moments a day practicing chess and tennis
Here is what happened to GSP. Before being TKO’d by Serra he had 14 fights 3 of which he won by decision. After the Serra fight, he had 9 fights 6 he won by decision(5 minutes from a 7th decision during the Penn fight). He is scared of being punched and uses his long reach to jab and use take-downs to win a decision. AOPrinciple: Diaz does not get knocked out or submitted, look at his record. He definitely doesn’t get “Chocked out”. GSP couldn’t even finish Hardy with subs and Diaz has amazing ground skills.
My abs hurt just watching this…
I think the idea is simple, gymnastics develop real strength AND flexibility which is a much smarter way to make your muscles stronger than just lifting weights. As a support system, it beats body building ten-fold.
And GSP still does everything else that an MMA fighter does. Diaz is good, but there is a good chance GSP will simply overpower him.
Diaz best chance is to do the opposite of what a lot of people here are saying: take the fight to the later rounds. If he can put some pressure on GSP with his boxing without being taken down, he can get GSP to lose some power and work him in the 4th and 5th rounds.
However, in my book GSP has a 65% chance of winning this fight. Some leg kicks, long jabs from the outside and takedowns will keep him ahead in the scorecard and, if he has a chance, he will go for the kill. I just don’t think Diaz will give him that chance. GSP wins by UD.
how the fuk does this help someone punch harder or finish armbars???
war diaz knock this canadian out cold
I believe he does play chess, actually.
Not sure about tennis, though.
GSP is an artist, plain and simple. Fighters like him and Silva are legends, not simply champions.
I give Diaz about three times more of a chance than I gave hardy.
So… 9%.
cigronne,
chess, yes as it is very good for the mind; you should learn!
GSP is in great condition but Diaz is better. Diaz has the clear and uncontested edge on the ground, I’d give GSP the power advantage, Diaz the accuracy advantage and a tie in pitter pat strikes. I don’t think GSP will want to take Diaz down. I predict Diaz via bitch slap(watch the Lawler KO, best bitch slap ever) in 3rd or GSP via unanimous, ultra boring decision because he runs around the whole 25 minutes.
Meh I saw Vince Vaughn do ringwork while smoking a cigarette.
dose Gymnastics do anythig to do with fighthing? I doubt it
Diaz stands as much a chance as Shields did, 0.
He can just hope for poking him in the eye.
I don’t give a sh!t what he does to train, just fininsh a f^cking fight!!!!
Caught my wife watching this video over and over and over……WTF
I do not see how Diaz takes this . I like Nick and love his fights and frankly am not a fan of GSP. That said Mr. Diaz got his ass handed to him by Diego for gods sake. I really think GSP’s wrestling will overwhelm Nick. Diaz is on one hell of a win streak and maybe he can keep it going NOTHING would please me more!
Alright.. so he’s really strong, and has great balance, and cardio, and can do cartwheels. Awesome. When does he larn how to punch and kick, or all that other stuff that FIGHTERS do. Watching him stick and move for 25 minutes, or lay and pray for 25 minutes is getting old. We get it, you like tights and grunting. Now learn how to finish a fight. I hope Diaz takes this. Mostly because I like Diaz, but also so GSP stops thinking he’s invincible and starts taking the FIGHTING aspect of this sport more seriously.
Maybe GSP should start Break dancing, I heard that takes alot of strength. He can also mix in a little River dancing too. That way he can be really elusive but entertaining!! Just saying..LOL
Pretty sure GSP won’t get sucked into a brawl with Diaz like Diaz’s previous opponents… striking advantage GSP
@Ozinator – I completely agree with you. I really don’t see how GSP’s matches are not entertaining. You guys actually prefer GSP knocking people out within the minute? GSP destroyed Hardy, broke Koscheck’s face in a million pieces, threw Fitch around, made BJ quit, thoroughly dominated Alves while injured and beat Shields with 1 eye. I loved all these matches. Silva v. Belfort type matches are spectacular for a split second, but I’d rather see a hard fought 5-rounds match than a flash knock-out.
Anyone who doesn’t think this kind of training is relevant to MMA needs to use their brain a little more…
This exercises will give more agility, flexibility and strenght. Rickson Gracie had some gymnastics like exercises routine too. Not comparing them though.
But i agree with those who say GSP should hurry the pace and deliver more KOs, he just fights in his comfort zone and dont risk much winning by decision.
marvelous mad madam mim you’re a fool.
I bet he writes poetry
@mervalous mad man
explain how does bench pressing or lifting wiehgt help your punching power…It doesnt thats right. If he can pull his body up like that im sure it will make him REALLY stronger. Not strong i can bench 300 pounds strong but real strenght when you can handstand push ups and have control of your body like GSP tries right now
if you consider how much strength/endurance etc that a fighter has to do ANYWAY, then doing something like gymnastics for a change of pace is a great idea.
I hear GSP doesn’t do a strength and conditioning program, though – he just trains martial arts and gets the muscles that way…?
He’s an animal!
@Shinka
He said he did lift weight to look good and be more marketable but he said it never helped his fighting.
Has anyone here ever done gymnastics before? Get back to me when you can do an iron cross on the rings like GSP does at 3:12. That takes years of training for most gymnasts, and it’s a testament to what an amazing athlete GSP is that he can do that. Gymnastics puts just about every workout to shame. Even Crossfit incorporates it into their workout program. Bunch of keyboard warriors on here.
he is only doing this so he can have a perfect back flip at the end of the fight…
@clemmit
I bet he does write poetry but do you know who else wrote poetry.Miyamoto Musashi who was a Samurai and considered the best swordman at his time.He dueled and won more then 50 times. He laso wrote poetry and did arts.So we can use the term “Badass” for this guy.Does him doing poetry make him gay or feminie like you would say?
The real martial artists like GSP Anderson Silva and Musashi all use the philosophy of martial arts in every apect of their life.If you dont understand the link between arts and fighting then your a meathead who likes MMA for the blood death and gore. Some people here i bet actually watch fights to see beautiful tecnics being displayed by high level athletes and watch this as an art.Its ok if you watch it for violence but dont go and insult great champions like him.
@Randy Couture: touche’, my friend, touche’!
GSP is amazing, he is one of the most wellrounded fighter on the planet. And what a class act dude he is!
The good news about UFC expansion is more fights for us, fans, the bad news is mofos all over the place, with nonsense stupid comments…
I am an ex gymnast and it is great for MMA. I train jiu jitsu for fun currently and it allows me to do things others can’t. It is great for coordination and balance! GSP is a great fighter and champion. Quit hating!
This guy is cleary gay.. this confirms it hope he gets beat not because hes queerer then a 3 dollar bill but im tired him dominating everyone minus J.sheilds .. he could train a lot more normal
@kungfulowkick, u misunderstood the sentiment of my post. But i can see how you would. I did not mean it as an insult. It would just make him more of a fascinating character to me.
Maybe he’ll stick the landing this time around with his post-fight backflip!
