really used to be a big fan of this guy until he started just being a round winner not a fight winner. He really needs to finish somebody. He hasn’t been willing to pull the trigger ever since Serra caught him

@brnz I agree but I disagree that it was after Serra. He finished Serra in the rematch. Greg Jackson is what happened. To their credit, they have some good finishers, Condit among them, but Jackson realizing how smart GSP is, started him down the line of a more game plan oriented fight. The longer GSP’s career, the more potential Jackson has to make off him. GSP wants to finish fights. You can tell that he wants to shake off that conservative style, but just can’t seem to do it. He just doesn’t remember HOW to finish.
The guys in Albuquerque not fighting team mates is another of Jackson’s money making themes. Keep the camp harmonious so that fighters stay. Makes sense, but the true fighters, like Condit, take the damned fight without second thought. According to Dana, Condit burst into tears when given this opportunity.
I believe in Condit. I think he’s going to be the best. Just not yet.

Why does GSP during PRE-fight interviews tend to have a low raspy voice, not so much this time, but definitely noticeable, and a non-deep raspy voice during post fights? Hmmmm….

Fighting GSP is like going to a clinic to find out which part of your game is weak. If you have a weakness he’ll expose it, because he’s humble, smart, and doesn’t have a weekness that anyone has been able to exploit so far (except Serra).
Maybe if Condit can get inside GSPs beautiful jabs and leg kicks and land a stiff hook behind his ear then it will be lights out for GSP once again. He may welcome that outcome as it would get people to stop asking him about a fight with Silva: something he’s obviously not keen on.

You got me there cms, but that’s Shield’s second KO loss in a career spanning more than a decade and over 30 professional fights (you also have to consider where his head was at following his father’s death). Hendo didn’t KO Shields and he hits like a freight train. Why should anyone complain that GSP couldn’t pull it off either?

GSP has definitely become more conservative in his fights since Serra. However, at the same time, he hasnt fought anyone that has truly brought the fight out of him. Thats not entirely his fault. Watch the Jon Fitch fight again, he’s the last guy to put GSP in any kind of fight and GSP definitely WENT for the finish, on multiple occasions. Hopefully Condit will bring the best out of GSP because I think we only see 70% of what he is capable of.

This guy has beaten almost every other world class fighter in his division and you guys complain? I have two suggestions for you…number one don’t buy the payperviews he’s on and number two if you don’t like the way he beats everybody then go spend years training…climb the welterweight ranks and beat him yourself so people can cheer and admire you…Seriously if you want a knockout every time go to a bar…truth is its impossible to find out who the best fighter in the work is because now we have rounds and rules…I mean every fighter can’t throw caution to the wind and get paid…look at Leonard Garcia…every fight is a bar fight and he loses…but your right its entertaining…but at the end of the day garcia is making 20 thousand a fight while the gsp guy you all are calling “gay” is making over a million, getting endorsements and screwing hot women…bottom line although listening to gsp talk and perform is much like fingers on a chalk board if you don’t respect the guy and what he’s accomplished you have issues but luckily for gsp he’s laughing all the way to the bank and could care less what all the internet warriors have to say

Anyone calling GSO a “lay and pray” fighter just proves how ignorant you guys are in grappling.GSP goes for passes tries submissions and f**** up guys with GnP.He pounded Serra to a TKO.He GnP BJ Penn so much that he quit and got another TKO.He busted up pretty Thiago Alves with his GnP and his striking.He also subbed Matt Hughes with the same submission Hughes caught him earlier in his career.He choked out Frank Trigg with alot of ease.He also KOed Jay Hieron with is stand up.
GSP always dominates so much his opponents and he puts them where he knows they are way less talented then him.He is the Floyd Mayweather(without the cocky asshole part) and Pernell Withaker of MMA.Real boxing fans appreciated Pernell Withaker’s fight style even if he didnt win half of his wins by KO.If you can’t appreciate what GSP does you don’t appreciate technical MMA.

Also if you watched TUF the HW season you would know being an NFL player doesnt help you.There were 4 NFL “physical specimen” but do you remember who won?Right the fat guy with the huge gut.Why?Because he’s a fighter before being an athlete.Athletism can get you to a certain point but it’s all about technic.And if you take a GSP who is a physical specimen,the guy only needs like 45 seconds to get rid of his lactic acid and he has like 5% body fat,and you give him great grappling and striknig technic then you get one of the best pfp fighter in the world.

GSP also broke Koscheck’s eye socket (he needed reconstructive surgery after that fight) and Fitch looked like he got dragged behind a truck. Meanwhile, GSP walked away from both fight with no visible damage.
GSP sees weaknesses and exploits them, that routine he gives about “being a martial artist” is part of that. He’s not a brawler, he’s a tactician and that’s why he’s held the belt for so long.

It’s not that every fight should be a KO… its that every fighter should go in the cage with the intention to finish the fight. The golden rule is “never let it go to the judges” However… GSP always grinds a victory via letting it go to the judges. He wins, yes. He’s an amazing wrestler/grappler, yes. He can hang with strikers, yes. But he has no killer instinct. So he wins… and his personality doesn’t allow for him to be a “bad guy” but his fighting style doesnt make him a likeable fighter either. Like someone said up above, GSP makes the big bucks, gets the finest women, and probably doesnt give a s***. But he’s not doing the sport any favors by being one of the hardest to watch fighters, either.

A lot of good discussion. GSP will be more than Condit can handle in my opinion. With that said anything can happen in a fight and I’ve enjoyed Condits’ fights in WEC and UFC. Ellenberger vs Condit showed Condit can take a beating and come back. GSP will lose the tile as soon as Ellenberger is givin the chance.
