Georges St. Pierre Hurt, Condit vs. Diaz Will Battle For Interim Title At UFC 143

A serious injury has knocked Georges St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) out of UFC 143′s main event and will be put on the shelf for 10 months.

UFC president Dana White today tweeted the sad news.

“GSP blown acl will be out for 10 mos.,” White tweeted. “Now Condit vs Diaz for the interim welterweight title on Feb 4th in Las Vegas!!”

It’s not yet known if Condit’s original opponent at UFC 143, Josh Koscheck (16-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC), will fight on the card.

UFC 143 takes place Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event’s main card airs live on pay-per-view.

I just dont get the whole interim title thing. I mean one of those two wins and he’s the “Interim Champion” then the next fight GSP beats him and its like why bother. You were never really a champion. Same as Shane Carwin, won and then lost next fight. Ive never seen a champion be out long enough for the Interim Champion to fight someone else before he returns.

NOT surprised AT ALL! GSP was also “injured” against Matt Hughes and let BJ show him how to beat Hughes. True but you can exaggerate it, it seems like the post Serra GSP only fights when hes 100%. Other guys fight through injuries all the time and he’s beginning to develop a reputation of being too cautious, if he isn’t 100% he will shut it down.

Whatever class half full, Diaz vs. Condit is a much better match stylistically.

I wouldn’t worry to much about Carlos, the man is a beast. Nick and him are both great fighters and great men in their own right. This will be fight of the night as long as Nick doesn’t get involved in a three car pileup, or Condit doesn’t run into a rabid mountain lion whilst jogging the New Mexico High lands. When you think what kind of fighter GSP is, aside from the foolish opinions about him faking or being a cuddler I can’t think of a more well rounded fighter. Wow, there are a lot of emotional people on this site. GSP would win the fight where ever it goes.(that is standing or on the ground with Diaz or Condit) I understand there a lot of fans (some clearly new to the sport) who want the condit v diaz fight. It will be a war, one which I will thoroughly enjoy.. But just be honest with yourselves and admit the hate and predictions are based on GSPs style, not his skill as a fighter. Don’t mix your emotions with facts. I can’t remember the last time GSP didn’t get the better of a guy on his feet. Aside from the fact that his standup is far better than most will give him credit for, his opponents are worried about being on their backs and can’t be as aggressive. Condit would be the same. (see Thiago Alves) Diaz is too goddamn stupid to care and will just throw his hands. He has about 20-30 before he ends up on his back.

You are also foolish if you think GSP isn’t ducking Diaz. He knows he can’t lay on and hump Diaz for 5 rounds, and he also knows he has nowhere near the hands that Diaz has. If the GSP Diaz fight happens, it will either be a mid-fight KO by Diaz or a 5 round square dance by GSP. Diaz dismantled Penn far worse than GSP did, and he did it on his feet. GSP’s only desire is to keep the belt. He doesn’t care if that means boring fights, or no fights at all, as long as he doesn’t have to give the title/status up.

I am a huge MMA fan. I been watching the UFC since day 1. GSP, Silva, Hughes, Chuck, and Royce Gracie were probably the most dominate fighters in their time. I am a fan of 3 of those 5 fighters that who I have just mentioned. Now with that being said our topic here is GSP. A lot of you don’t like his style which I find confusing. Gracie dragged people down to the ground and sub them, Chuck stood and KO’d everyone, Hughes slammed everyone and ground n pound and\or sub them, Silva KO’s or subs off his back when he gets taken down. Now GSP, he does everything those fighters do. He can truly do it all and has, but since he was champ for so long he would like to keep his legacy going by playing it safe which I don’t have a problem with. The problem I do have though are the crappy fighters he faces. Why the hell can’t anyone do this to him, I thought all these other fighters were killers and finishers. I can’t count how many fighters who had fought safe, lose by KO or had gotten sub. The truth is that all these fighters are scared of GSP cause he is the most well rounded fighter ever. I like coming to this site and reading all the posts, but this one I couldn’t take anymore and had to say my thoughts.

I would never say GSP faked an ACL tear, but I will suggest that some other fighters would have sucked it up and fought anyway. Perhaps it’s because these guys really need the payday. You’ve got to be pretty tough to compete with an injury like this because it hurts to do anything but pain tolerance is the primary factor. It’s not going to get any worse (he’s got a better chance of tearing the other one than further injury to his hurt knee) and there isn’t anything he could do before that he couldn’t accomplish now; especially considering his ultramulscular frame…Except for the pain tolerance thing.

I’m not a professional athlete but I wrestled a whole year with a torn ACL. It hurt like a bitch the whole season but I fought through it and had surgery afterward. There are NFL players who’ve played decade-long careers with torn ACLs.

It’s probably not wise to fight on but that’s hardly been a fighter’s monicker. I do think GSP may have fought through this against almost any other man, but we’re talking about Nick Diaz. Smart move champ.

REALLY???…REALLY???…Condit would’ve lost to Koscheck which makes Dana have to put Diaz vs Koscheck…Kos would wreck Condit and Diaz…Better yet Fitch is the guy that everybody forgot about,if anything Fitch would smash Condit and Diaz too…Im just saying too much people talking about these 2 CLOWNS.

i predict that this will be the end of gsp’s career. this sport is progressing way to fast now for him to be out another year if he does recover 100. which he wont he will never be champ again. it was a good run. i did my knee twice. you never get back to 100%
