The ruins at the beginning are Teotihuacan, just outside Mexico City. They filmed part in Tula (with the giant stone statues), another ruins site and ancient city a little outside of Mexico City. There is also a cool sequence in front of what looks like the Cathedral at the Zocalo. So yeah, shot in and around Mexico City.
