Marcos Villegas talks with Freddie Roach about his thoughts on GSP vs. Nick Diaz in which he says Diaz is a good street fighter but not a good boxer. He also talks working with Shogun Rua.
I would love to see no show Nick in pro boxing. He may do well against mid level boxers with his solid chin and insane cardio but he would get smoked by the higher level guys, Nick is too slow, flat footed and has no lateral movement, just straight forward like Frankenstein. This would get him murdered by the top boxers.
Freddy knows his *hit.Listen to him.
As much as i love Diaz and think Roach is annoying ( clearly he is good at what he does and i respect him though ) I agree on Diaz, he doesnt really feint or throw fakes BUT I FOOOOOKING LOVE DIAZ FOR THAT.
Come at me Bruv
I don’t know how many times people say he wouldn’t do good against a top level fighter! He’s been training with Andre ward for years! And I’m pretty sure Andre ward is the baddest man on the planet in boxing right now, Hopkins even said he would never fight ward. So you’re telling me ward is gonna spar with a scrub for years? And win titles sparring with scrubs? I don’t think so
Comparing boxing to mma is like comparing a truck wheel to a whole car. The parts are similar, but not interchangeable. Although boxing plays role in mma, it is not the same as “boxing”. Diaz could learn to “box” in a ring. He would certainly look very different than he does in the cage where he is getting kicked, kicking, defending take-downs, striking with his hands, elbows etc… The taunting of course, would transfer easily.
Call him a street fighter or whatever…all I know is that all of those who dare to toe the line get F*cked up…. sooo let one of Fredy’s pretty boy boxers “street fight” Nick and see what happens….
50-45, 50-45, 50-45
I love Freddy Roach but he’s out of line saying Diaz is just a good street fighter.Keep training your boxers in the sport of punching and let Diaz train in the sport of fighting. When you will be a coach in the art of fighting, not punching, you can say who is a technical and who isn’t.Diaz is a great grappler.Grappling IS NOT street fighting.
Freddy Roach can’t even think straight anymore.
It is hilarious for anyone to say Nick Diaz is not a good boxer.
Freddie always does this. Anyone one of his guys is fighting, he bad mouths their skills. Freddie is a douche now days.
Roach’s definition of a “streetfighter” is less defined I think because he has been in the boxing world so long. If you don’t get your boxing skills up to the point where its an absolute science but you still go out and defeat opponents using your fists, then he sees you as more of a streetfighter than boxer.
I believe that a typical MMA fighter would do as well in a boxing ring as a boxer would do in an octagon. The big factor is training. Look at a typical 2-month training camp. A boxer will concentrate fully on boxing during that whole time. An MMA fighter has to divide his time between all aspects of striking along with his ground game. He will spend only a fraction of time on pure boxing compared to the boxer. Of course the boxer is going to be better at pure boxing after that 2 months. He won’t know much about anything else like the MMA fighter would, but they are training for their own types of competition. That’s why I don’t see Diaz doing all that well in boxing against higher level opponents.
For the Record .. How many Championship fights has Freddie Roach Lost recently ?? 0-5 .. I believe Freddie Roach said in a video interview BJ Penn was the best boxer in MMA and Nick Diaz outboxed “the best boxer in the UFC” ….
@chris
are you kidding me … #1 you either have never seen diaz fight or #2 you dont know anything about boxing.
let me tell you buddy in boxing you have constant head movement your feet are always moving and you THROW YOU BODY WIEGHT INTO PUNCHES. nick diaz DOES NOT move his head he DOES NOT shuffle his feet and he SURE AS HELL DOESNT throw his body wight into his shots…he hits like a little girl.and dont argue back because go watch his last 10 fights and tell me i am wrong.
weight*
Diaz technique may look zombie’ish but whatever it works…
Shogun was knocking M************ out and this guy says he hit like a girl…
Nick is a mixed martial artist. He’s a solid striker with a black belt in BJJ. People saying he’d do well against mid level guys are paying him a compliment. Saying he’d get beaten by the top level guys is stating the obvious. Very difficult to be at the pinnacle of two sports.
He is no Floyd Mayweather but his boxing is pretty effective for MMA
Roach has one foot on a banana and the other foot on the tilt-a-whirl. He’s a knowledgeable guy, but Marquez beat the s*** out of Pacman 3 out of 4 times until he actually rendered the man unconscious. Still Roach would say Pacman is the better boxer. s***, he has to stay employed for crying out loud!
Lol nick doesn’t throw his body weight? Lol watch the body shots rippin into bj and ask him if they didn’t hurt
