I love watching Benson fight and am a huge fan but Edgar was robbed…
really close fight. Either Edgar was robbed or a tie. I don’t think Ben did enough to “win” the title from the champ.
You cant be serious about that, Henderson won all the 5 rounds, edgar did nothing to win the fight
Actually i think pettis, guida, nate would win again edgar and i believe edgar dont go to 145 because hes afraid of aldo
I was about to say, if Edger wins this, I am done watching UFC. The judges got this one right.
That is a tough fight to judge. Frankie fought his heart out, but he really needs to move down in weight, the disparity was unreal.
i agree with the judges, unanimous decision. Tx for the post man!!!
Benson won that fight. There was no ‘marginal Edgar win’ there…. I think Edgars awesome, but Benson deserves the title for sure! Good job refs (Finally!)
Judges were not even close, % thrown to % landed, went to Frankie, Takedowns went to Frankie, only power shots went to Henderson. Frankie will come back and beat Henderson.
Just looking at both fighters face…its evident Frankie got the beat down. Ben on the other hand looked fresh…
ben def won that fight, his octogon control, pushing forward, more damage in punches, takedowns and abilty to pop right back up when he did get taken down, i got edgar only winning the first round, maybe second if im being generous but benson won the rest, that guys a beast
Frankie didn’t do enough. His style of hit and run just won’t cut it anymore. Ben definitely won this fight, without question.
Anyone who thinks Edgar won that fight is insane. Henderson landed the harder shots, rocked Edgar several times, and did massive damage. Just look at his face vs Henderson’s at the end. All of you that think Edgar was robbed, don’t deserve to watch MMA. I can’t stand people that think MMA should be a ‘point’ sport, where landing more weak shots gives you the victory. It’s about DAMAGE and FINISHING your opponent.
That dude IS SMOOTH!
sometimes i think thats the unfair aspect of people cutting weight to fight at lower classes. the size difference is obvious & no doubt makes a big difference in the fight game…
that was no robbery at all. that was 4 rounds to 1 easily. just look at the two of them at the end. robbery???? can’t see how you could even make an argument.
I don’t subscribe to the philosophy that you have to dominantly defeat a champ to take his place. If you won the fight you won the fight. Period. That said, I think Henderson did a lot more damage while receiving a lot less. I think the judges made a good decision (for once).
Nadie, you are one naturally born idiot. ‘nough said!
I dont believe that ANYONE who SCORED THE FIGHT, i.e. kept track of number of contacts, takedowns (Edgar had about 5, Henderson 1) could have called the fight for Henderson. Sorry, I love Bendo, but he didnt win. The problem when NON-Fighter watch a fight is that they are impressed by s*** like the first round when after Bendo got his kick caught and stopped he jumped and threw a kick with the other leg….NON-fighters are impressed with flashy stuff like that…they MISS the fact that his kick was stopped, he missed the flying kick and ended up on his back…what he did was ineffective even though it looked cool…
Henderson won! You can’t judge a fight based on just contact that would be like amateur boxing and we know how that point system sucks. It has to be strikes that cause damage and depending on the person taking the hit will determine what you consider effect strikes. Henderson won!
what round did ben win?
Benhen, landed nice kicks, knees and jabs. Frankie caught a lot of kicks but the kicks had already hit their target and Frankie never once turned it into a take down. Just added points for Benhen.
Frankie took Benhen down multiple times, but never once capitalized on it to dish out some ground and pound. Benhen just got right back up everytime and then returned with a combo as Frankie moved back.
The two times that the fight hit the floor resulted in Frankie getting busted open on the nose or almost getting submitted in a guillotine choke.
I feel so bad for Frankie. He has such a good foot work, timing and wrestling ability but the strength and size difference is just too much.
This fight was one of the best decision I’ve
seen from judges. Ben did more damage to Frankie, and had more chance of finishing the fight. Ben is also first Korean American UFC champion,so all the guys saying Asians are weak “GTFOH”. Ben Henderson,B.J Penn all hybrid Korean power!!!
The judges scored it right. Don’t expect a win when you cant control the center of the ring and you have a broken nose and a closed left eye! Frankie needed to finish Bendo to win this fight.
im from Jerseyand a hug Edgar fan wrestled with him at rugters, he lost but it should have been a split decision not a all for Bendo but it was a good fight bendo is a very tough and skilled guy
reyboi youre 100% right
Thank God the judges used their head and didn’t mistake MMA for Sport Karate point fighting like last the last UFC…
First two comments must have watched a different fight; Henderson wooped Edgar, no question.
Bendo all the way. He controlled the fight and beat up the champ. Frankie is a great fighter, but was edged by a better fighter last night. The judges really got this one right…BTW that upkick made MY face hurt.
Frank fought to another draw agianst a guy who is a WW.. HE landed way more strikes and takedowns and never slowed the pace and got out of a guotine that Ben had locked..Sub D dosent matter I guess, Frank will get it back, btw Frank did drop him with an upper cut too. if anything its a draw, Frankie caught all his kicks lol and the upkick was lucky, and the judges think wow blood.. 1st rd was Ben’s. ROBBERY
It was a close fight you drama queens.
I dunno…for it to be unanimous, i mean if u wanna make the damage argument, im confident frankie took way more damage in the title fight against gray maynard and noone really contested the tie there, at least split decision i dunno how that s*** was unanimous.
How the hell did Frankie get robbed.I saw Benson winning all 5 rounds.Maybe Frankie got round 2 but thats all.
Frankie had a good gameplan of stick and move and catch his kicks. It’s a really good gameplan except they didnt excepct Benson to have magnets under his feet.
henderson clearly won 4 of the 5 rounds. he deserves the belt for what he did to frankie, i mean look at frankie’s face and hendersons face. hendersons cardio amazed me this fight also, looked totally fresh in the fifth.
@op_faith
I’m not a NON fighter like you wrote so many times and I still think Bendo won.Frankie landed more strikes but they hjad nothing behind it.Everytime Frankie got a takedown he couldn’t do anything with it and each time Bendo got the dominant position he did some good GnP and did the damage.Frankie didnt do any damage.Look at Winky Wright vs Jermain Taylor.Wright punched more times and scored more but didnt do any damage(like Frankie here).Jermain had alot less strikes landed but his strikes were all powers shots or damaging shots(like Benson)and they gave the fight to Jermain because thats how it works.if your game is alot of small punches with no intent of hurting, then they will score less then power shots or damaging shots.
yea I would have hated to judge this fight. It was close and a really good match up. Overall I agree that Ben won but could have easily seen the judges giving it to edgar, I kind of assumed they would since they always screw up the judging. I could have also seen this as a tie. Frankie did get a lot of take downs and landed a lot of strikes, but benson would either pop right up after the TD and hit him with harder strikes. That’s what happens when you train for a point fight like Edgar does.
how the hell is there a controversy?!!! ben beat the brakes off of frankie. ben had a reversal for every “bad” position he was in. edgar didnt want to engage in any way
Henderson is just way stronger…..Frankie needs to drop weight
There’s a difference between strategic point fighters and fighters that actually look to win via KO/Submission. Watch the fight again, and listen to Edgar’s corner. Their plan was to survive. Score take downs, get back up, score punch combinations, get out of the way. There was no sense of urgency at all out of Edgar to try and KO or submit Henderson. I’m a true fan of MMA, that means I respect the mix martial artist more, not the super athlete who trains and looks for a decision. I respect the finisher more, and Henderson was looking to finish. He won that fight, he deserved it. If you’re a true mix martial artist, and you say “my ground game is better than his” “my standup is better than his”, then show it. If you get him on the ground show us how much better you are by trying to submit him/gnp whatever. If you claim you’re better than him standing up then show it.. go for the knock out, don’t just throw punches hoping to land. Point fighters look to score points and win via cheapness. REal mma-ers look for the win in their own hands, not the judges.
There should be NO controversy. Benson Henderson clearly won that fight!
Ben won easily, he was never in any kind of trouble. Yes Edgar took him down but did nothing when he was there!!
The amount of Damage Ben did to Frankie as we all can see was devastating.
Frankie’s pitter patter punching without any power is not enough to win.
HENDERSON beat that ass up. That was a BEATDOWN, Hendo did NOT even have a scratch on his entire body. BTW I live jersey & wanted Edgar to represent, but DIAM Hendo brought the PAIN & SKILLZ.
Also Edgar needed to man up & lose gracefully, not go out like a little cry baby. I lost respect for Edgar right after his crying.
When Machida got his ass handed to him, he took it like a champ. Edgar another crying bitch, hope I don’t see his ass on the road, for I’ll tell his little midget ass how I feel about his whinning..
@KungFuLowKick: Well said bro. Not only that, but every time Hendo was bringing that GNP, Edgar got saved twice by that BELL. The first time, Edgar would have been beaten to a PULP. DING!!! God saved that kid last night..
Henderson destroyed Edgar
@KungFuLowKick-
Ok then, as a Fighter you know the point system is because not every fight is a knock out, and you also know that the Champ has a given advantage-the challenger has to TAKE the belt. Hendo doesn’t cut easy and yes had some hard strikes but his connection percentage was WAY lower and he only capitalized once in an attempted guillotine, which he couldn’t complete. IF the Champ has WAY more connects, puts you on your ass repeatedly and you, as the challenger, didn’t FINISH him, how are you the winner? Frankie SHOULD have won on points.
I’m not like these new fight fans, or like the Diaz supporters who support their hero no matter what…I think Henderson beat Pettis, honestly. If you ask most people who saw that fight-”showtine kick, showtime kick, showtime kick…” It was pretty even, but then Benson got ahead in the last rounds and pretty much had won. If Pettis had fired a normal kick and dropped Benson he wouldn’t have won that fight-Benson was up RIGHT after the kick. People respond to flash…that’s what I object to…
Did you notice how Benson kept shrugging his shoulders last night after getting hit? That’s showmanship-non fighters and dumb judges respond to that…but you STILL got hit and the point should have gone to Frankie. Period. I don’t like point fighting but those are the rules…
Frankie won that.
All that bullshit about doin’ it for Christ is really sickening. Jesus freaks are nuts. Great fight nonetheless
In what state was BenHen raised to make him brainwashed with the Jesus stuff? … Funny how a bunch of middle eastern teachings / fables are being spread, morphed and driven into the brains of people from little suburban US towns: … “Yo, JEeeeeesus put the POWER of da’ Holy Spirit in ma Beatdowns.” Really? Jesus did that?
Ben Henderson is So SMOOTH and great CHAMP Now
Frankie is too small for 155lb, and especially for Bendo, just like BJ fighting in 170lbs.
i don’t like bendo or any other fighter that talks that bullbutter about jesus. hope pettis ko’s bendo like he did joe…
i cringe every time a fighter starts talking that garbage…
LOL
Benson won that fight clearly. It doesn’t matter if you land more shots if there is nothing on them, anybody who has done any standup training in their life knows its a lot easier to land shots if you are not putting anything on them, doesn’t mean you win a fight when your face looks like mincemeat at the end …
Op_of_Faith…you say anyone scoring that fight should have given the fight to Frankie…really!!! I love Frankie as a fighter buy c’mon bro…clearly, Hendo won that fight!!! Frankie looked like a walker from The Walking Dead at the end of the fight. Hendo didn’t have a scratch on him and wasn’t even breathing heavy. Ben was too big and too strong for Frankie..PERIOD!
Babel says that Ben didn’t do enough to “win” the title from the champ…Upon completion of the fight, take a look at Frankie’s face and then take a look at Benson’s face. Then tell me that Benson did not do enough to “win” the fight from the champ. R U Kidding me bro. Seriously??? What else does Benson have to do to “win” the title? Does he have to inflict permanent brain damage???
Awwwwww the itty bitty little Frankie Edgar abies are peeing themselves because their great messiah LOST…Just great, now we have to listen to the Edgar crybabies AND the Nick Diaz cry babies for the next year LOL. And to all the people who hate the Jesus accolades, blame yourselves for believing the fairy tales of the Big bang Theory and Evolution…We need MORE Jesus believers in the UFC not less. Thanks
I just want to know who the kid or girl saying “comon frankie” and “lets go frankie” and tell them to shut up. every freaking frankie edgar fight.
Bendo definitely won this fight no argument. The first 2 comments here were gay. If you think Edgar won this fight you need help cos you’are delusional. Prolly licking each others asses thats why you didn’t see the fight. I for once never liked Frankie. He is not a fighter but a runner. He runs like a stupid p**** all the time. Well done Bendo!
@chiroguy-…you are a shinning example of what I’m talking about. Chael Sonnen, as much as I hate him, looked like hamburger after the Silva fight but if Silva hadn’t pulled off that triangle then he EASILY would have lost to points. This is what I mean about people not understanding the sport. Bendo has only looked beat up ONCE that I know of because he simply tends not to cut…He gets hit all the time. That is my one criticism of him…AS A FAN.
Once again, you just don’t get it. I was a Bendo fan when he was in the WEC. I STILL call the Pettis fight for him because you don’t win a fight because you threw one flashy kick-not to a real fighter. I wanted BJ to win against Edgar… Frankie. Simply. Won. The person who hits the most, knocks the opponent down the most and HAPPENS to be champ wins by default and always has. Go watch the fight again and count points. Until the judging changes and there is a new point system (and I hope this happens) by the rules…not by wannabe bullshit, Frankie Edgar won that fight.
@Op_of_faith
I should rewatch Bendo vs Pettis because I thought Pettis won with or without the kick.
Frankie did score alot more then Ben but the more significant strikes were to Ben imo. When Frankie was landing,it was all strikes with no intention at all to hurt.Yes he basically won the point match but Ben didn’t looked in danger once and didn’t seemed to be phased by any strikes Frankie threw. And when Frankie took him down he never held him there and the significant points in grappling were all to Ben.Each time Frankie put Ben on his back he got reversed or Ben stood up.
it was a good fight. close but not close enough. edgar is a tough guy and moves really well, but ben is waay bigger and stronger and reminds me of guys like jose aldo, guys who want to hurt you, not merely win on points.
that said it could have been a split decision, but either way ben won.
go back to lilliput frankie, even that translator chick looks taller then him… go down to 135 for aldo chop your legs, r*** your face(just as anybody else) and give you your first knock out loss.
also benson…asking Japanese for an ‘amen’=FAIL
@jack Wouldn’t BJ be the first Korean-American Champ? 2X? Just saying..
I really like the way Henderson fights but man I have endless respect for Frankie what a Heart he was a much smaller fighter but with a huge Heart. I think the fight was actually pretty close in the technical aspect but Henderson did more damage and controlled the center more. thats how I had it
Round 1 = Frankie
Round 2 = Henderson
Round 3 = Frankie
Round 4 = Henderson
Round 5 = Henderson (very close round almost a draw but near the end Henderson was dominant which is important)but henderson did more Damage and center control overall
I have so much respect for Frankie what a heart he has.
Frankie is too small for 155, he should go to 145
Henderson looked so much bigger than him.
Where in the rules does it say that if you “land” (or even touch gently) someone more, you deserve the round? GTFOH you crybabies! Stiking = Henderson. 1 power shot is worth more than some tick tacky flurries. Is this not obvious to everyone? The category is effective strikes and damage, not “this fighter touched the other fighter with baby punches”. Damn, look at their faces and even their bodies. Benson beat Frankie like he stole something from his church.
Octagon control = Henderson. Controled the center of the ring, always moved forward. Edgar just basically ran around in circles like a gnat and while he did land some minor shots, he took WAY more damage. Hence the running and not engaging.
I will say Frankie took Benson down more, but that was more likely due to Benson not even being worried about it and being able to absorb ZERO (read again, ZERO) damage. In top control position, Benson, once again, did WAY more damage. Hell, in fact, from BOTTOM position, Benson did WAY more damage. He actually almost finished the fight twice from the bottom on an upckick to GNP, and also an arm in Guillotine.
Benson threatened to finish the fight 3 times (twice very close), Frankie didn’t threaten even one moment in this fight.
Listen, anytime a round is even close, the guy who does more damage or threatens to end the fight should ALWAYS get the round. This is, after all a combat sport that is supposed to be a FIGHT. This isn’t dancing or a compulsory point performance requirements sport. Frankie should have looked in the mirror/monitor and taken his A S S beating like a man.
Also, Frankie gave immediate rematches because he really lost all the first fights. Fight metric had BJ winning the first fight. Maynard really should have won the first title shot fight as well. Getting beaten up and “winning” gets you rematches, getting owned like a pack of cigarettes in the joint doesn’t deserve a rematch.
Frankie’s corner: Okay when they announce Henderson’s win everyone look freaking surprised. Okay, then lets demand a rematch and try to convince everyone the fight was close. Frankie go to the press conference and when someone asks, say you won the fight. Okay everyone good plan.
Pride FC is dead. Pride FC scoring has nothing to do with UFC scoring. You cannot simply take a snapshot of two fighters faces at the end of a fight and make that your sole determination in deciding the winner. Please have a better argument than “look at their faces” if you are going to argue the outcome. UFC is judged on a point system round by round. That’s just the way it is. All that said, I think it was a good call by the judges. I do think it was a pretty close fight, although no one’s put Edgar in more trouble in a title fight than Maynard has.
Secondly, why is it excusable to show that much vehement hate for someone because they believe differently than you? I don’t think I’ve ever heard Henderson attack anyone else for their beliefs, but you hate him for mentioning Jesus? Is that truly more rational than you claim he is for not being just like you?
Damage and power VS. points and percentages.
I wonder is it is better to watch fights and not take the stats as the most defining criteria for judging.
Edgar got hit with a lot of gruesome power shots and it showed. Henderson was not hurt.
Henderson controlled the pace of the attack and caused so much more damage. Closed his eye up, messed up his nose with the upkick, knees and body kicks you could hear, submission threats.
I just mean that if you didn’t get any stats while watching that fight your gut would certainly say edgar survived that beating and lost.
Certainly an entertaining fight for us, the fans. Great card, had a bunch of fun fights
Thanks Bruno!
ur all crazy…i dont care who counted what punches or takedowns or whatever…ben smooth mothafukn henderson laid down the beat down on that boy edgar!!! he beat the s*** out of him and i could care less if punches ur 100-20 for edgar or whatever……any sane person who saw that fight saw edgar get his as kicked..as for the non fighter bullshit , maybe ur a fighter and u took too many kicks to the head and u think ur the s***…keep fighting and leave the judging to non retards ..thank..no offense to retards…
Edgar didn’t even landed more shots;
http://blog.fightmetric.com/2012/02/henderson-vs-edgar-official-ufc.html
Also he did nothing with the takedowns. Or wait.. he got a brutal head kick.
no controversy here Bendo won easily
I agree with the idiots who think little Frankie won. I could tell by Frankie’s face that he was the winner LOL Are you people serious? LOL
BTW. I liked Ben for a minute until the Christ stuff came out. Yuck. I wish there were some ancient Roman Legionaries around to throw that Christian into a lion pit.
Ben Henderson all day!!!!! Even though Edgar was catching a lot of his kicks, the damage was already done. He was late catching most of those kicks.
i thought henderson won. i also thought condit beat diaz and sonnen beat bisping.
why not have 5 or even 7 judges? wouldn’t that make bad decisions less frequent?
freedom of religion vs freedom of speech. you are free to rip on someone for their beliefs, it just makes you look like an asshole.
i’m a huge edgar fan, but benson cleaned house. my favourite part was henderson’s corner after round 4. “You got 5 more good minutes?” “I’ve got 15 minutes!” Benson’s cardio is rock solid.
@weaksauce
I thought BJ Penn was Hawaian not Korean…
I just saw zxfc post and now people saying Frankie won have no argument at all.Ben landed more significant strikes(jabs to the body don’t count imo)had the more significant grappling exchange and the more damaging strikes. He also was the better fighter in every grappling exchange. So what’s left to defend Frankie? He got takedowns who did nothing. And I like Frankie aot more then Jesus freak but Jesus Freak definetly won.
@weaksauce
You are right bro. BJ Penn is the first hybrid Korean American UFC champion. I love it that UFC have lot of Korean talent of late!!
You could make a case for Edgar winning the match if all you score was strikes and takedowns landed, like a boxing match. However I don’t think you can claim that Edgar landed more SIGNIFICANT strikes.
While Edgar may have won the match, anyone can see that Ben clearly won the fight.
“I think I did enough to win the fight, I landed more punch and more take downs..”
Frankie Edgar.
Edgar landed 1 good punch in 5 rounds, just about all of his take downs ended up with either Ben Henderson on top or back up within 2 seconds..
Ben Henderson completely dominated the fight and showed Edgar’s style to be absolutely ineffective against him.
After re-watching this fight Benson Henderson won this fight not only because he did the most damage but because he was never threatened. That upkick in the first round won and then him finishing in top position landing ground and pound won that round. He landed the harder shots in round 2 and almost finished Edgar with that guillotine. His takedowns were fewer but when he was on top he did damage and Edgar didnt. He looked fresher throughout the whole fight and Edgar was not only busted up but when the fight was over he didn’t look like a guy who thought he had won. I honestly didn’t give Edgar any of the first 4 rounds. He was the more active fighter but the only big punch he landed was in the 5th and even that round he ended up on the bottom and getting ground and pounded … Henderson is the truth!
Edgar won that fight look at the fight stats. It was a close fight no doubt. However, I do not believe Bendo won that fight any way you cut it. Bendo did break Frankie’s nose with that upkick, but he still lost that round. Ben is a great fighter, but I will not recognize him as the champion, because he didn’t win that fight.
Henderson won rounds 2-4. 3 rounds to Frankie’s 2 so its a UD win and a new champ. If Edgar wants to win decisions and not finish his opponents off then he needs to do more damage but since he has no power I guess thats not an option.
@KungFuLowKick-I get your point, but then it turns into how to judge “significant strikes…” Again I have to refer to a guy who I think is an idiot-Chael Sonnon. He looked like a bus hit him after the Silva fight. If anyone had come in to watch it at the end they would have thought Silva dominated the fight, ended up on his back and threw a brutal triangle. Silva got beat on for 23 minutes and looked like he hadn’t even been in a fight but we ALL know that if that fight had gone to decision, Anderson would have lost.
You can’t judge a fight by that…
I love Bendo, but I’m not giving him that fight. I’ll be paying for his next fight, and I’ve paid for his fights before (at bars…) but I don’t give undeserved wins…He fought hard, and well…as I said before the switch kick from the leg hold was beautiful, but…he…missed. That doesn’t win the fight.
I watched and scored at the time 3 round to 2, Edgar. Edgar won.
Yo the Angel wings on his back etc. is such a crock of s*** cuz it basically saying that “God” favors him more than Edgar blah blah blah. There is no god or religion in fighting. All this thanking some mythological supreme being after a combat sport is just plain retarded.
Brainwashed is right. Bendo won because he trained hard. not because some bullshit god went into the minds of the judges and made them see the fight go his way.
Dude needs to get those stupid chick tats off his back. Good win for him.
i keep thinking bout that first round where frankie caught ben’s leg and ben followed up with trying to head kick frankie w/ the other leg. holy s***…can you imagine if that connected – he could have put him to sleep. anyway..exciting fight.
@captainobvious-
Best comment so far IMO. The fact is…we are using boxing as our standard. This is why Diaz lost to Condit and why being the aggressor is bullshit. Diaz spent the whole fight getting punch up and missing and he supposedly won cause he swung a lot. I think this is yet another fight that demands a standard. We all know that the judges score take downs…REGARDLESS of what happens after that. To say that “he didn’t capitalize on it…” is bullshit. The take down is a point. I’m fine with not going with boxing standards but if you do-that’s the guide and its a point system. Until we go back to no time limits or some sort of sudden death then the fact that you really believe something doesn’t count…sorry.
Op of faith, your an dumb dumb and obviously have experience in the fight game.
Well, you can all argue as much as you want, but the truth is that the rules are very clear on this point… Oh, wait…
Yep, you can yap all you want, but there is nothing in the rules that defines what the main things that people usually use to score fights mean:
1. Significant strikes: quantity v. damage
2. Octagon control: controlling the center v. controlling the action by forcing the other guy to chase you
3. Takedowns and jabs: should they count for themselves or only if they are followed by a damaging attack?
4. well, you get the drift.
There’s nothing there to clarify. My point is the same as ever, get rid of the need for judges. Increase the time of the first round, give the ref. some yellow cards, and make the fight be only stopped by KO, TKO (ref. call), or submission (either tap out, unconsciousness, or towel from the corner).
Anything else is just like this:
http://www.mmatko.com/2-toddlers-go-at-it-sherdog-forums-style/
So, I will just climb this fridge here…
regardless of who got more “points”, frankie edgar clearly took more of a beating. his face says it all.
Tough to see Congrats to the new champ Henderson. Frankie will be back more determined and hopefully get more power behind his strikes then he will be a new force to recon with.
@Brodio900…well put. Clearly I’M the dumb dumb. I tend to also be able to write coherent comments…and you? Dumbfuck.
@Odin
I so agree with you, I liked him as fighter and thought he is a pretty smart dude until I heard that Christ stuff.
no disrespect to anyone that is too religious but in my opinion people that are too religious are mostly judgmental, discriminatory and not too wise (messed up in the head)
Jose Aldo will stomp on edgar if he tries to invade his turf. Frankie is a tough kid but needs to pack more muscle to compete with the rest.
Frankie Edgar won this fight. I’ve watched it three times now and the one thing that stands out as usual is that Edgar got bloody.
Do ya want to see a fighter that came out looking beaten and still was winner?
Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn 1
Op_of_faith…Brodio900 posts that you are a dumb dumb and obviously have experience in the fight game. I assume he meant to say “you obviously don’t have experience in the fight game”…Brodio900 is obviously not the brightest tool in the shed. That being said, I hold multiple black belts in several martial arts along with a Doctorate Degree. I, my friend, am no dumbfuck. I have been watching mma regularly since 1993 (19 years and counting). I have seen every single 1 of Frankie Edgar’s fights in the UFC. He earned my respect after the Tyson Griffin fight. His knockout of Maynard was amazing. I respect him tremendously not only as a fighter but as a human being. He also has tremendous heart. That being said, there is absolutely, positively no way Edgar won that fight. I also thought that Pettis won the first fight with Henderson without the flashy fence kick. I was not impressed with the flying kick that Benson threw after Frankie caught his initial kick. It missed, therefore it did no damage. No harm, no foul…I was however impressed with the up-kick that flat-out shook Frankie’s brain and busted him open. That kick set the tone for the rest of the fight. I was waiting for Frankie to switch from 4th gear into 5th during the fight but it never came. Benson was getting stronger as the fight moved forward, while Frankie was stuck in 4th gear. I actually felt like i was rooting for Frankie during the fight because i like him as a fighter and respect the fact that he always looks half the size of his opponents (as he did in this fight). That being said, i thought Benson had the perfect skill-set to beat Frankie and take his belt home. I thought Benson was going to win but hoped Frankie would win. If you watch the end of the fight as they are about to announce the decision, check out the look on Frankie’s face and then take a look into Benson’s eyes. The fighter’s themselves know best when they have claimed victory and when they feel the agony of defeat. The look on Frankie’s face and his eyes tell me a story i have seen only once before…after his first fight with Maynard. Henderson was just too big, too fast and too strong for Frankie…my opinion! That being said, i can’t wait for Benson and Pettis to dance..that will be a flat out barnburner!!!
I absolutely can not fathom how people not only saw that as a really close fight, but that Edgar DOMINATED?! I just can’t see it…
He scored a couple really lucky/sloppy take downs, and a couple really good take downs. The only 2 times he scored a really good take down and Henderson did not get up IMMEDIATELY AS HE PLEASED, was when he kicked Edgar in the face, and almost submitted him with a guillotine. He then reversed the action and continued beating him up. He landed damage in every round, and threatened to finish in 3 or 4 of the rounds. Edgar never threatened to finish, and only very briefly had any sort of advantageous position, which Henderson immediately reversed and did more damage in return. I just don’t see how people saw it so one sided for Edgar. I think it was a great fight, a competitive fight, and in the end Henderson got the best of Edgar.
All they can point to on Edgar in this fight is the lucky upkick that bloodied him. Did it affect his subsequent fighting at all (i.e. slow him down or make him take more punishment)? The objective answer is no.
Henderson, I think “looked” more like a champion in the eyes of the judges because he was showboating for them and Edgar’s face was bloodied.
In addition to that, I think there is a racial component in the UFC. In a lot of close fights between a white and non-white, at least one judge gives it to the non-white. Go look at the past 20 UFCs, there are plenty of examples where you have to ask “What fight were you watching?”
Further on that point, listen to how Joe Rogan casts the fights. This UFC 144 was a perfect example. If you have time to go back and watch it again, tally up how many times Joe Rogan commpliments the non-white and how many times he compliments the white. Then also tally how many times he puts the white guy down and then how many times he puts the non-white down. You’ll discover something about Joe Rogan. Think it’s a fluke? Go back to any of the past five UFCs and run the tally again. If you’re white fighting a non-white, you’re not getting a lot of love from Joe Rogan.
