Frank Trigg tells it like it is in his more resent video blog post. He gives his opinion on what will be the outcome of the GSP vs BJ Penn greasing scandal.
.
.
.
BJ will lose again despite his allegations.
This fight will do terrible on ratings if it goes down again. Let me think here, there was an exact replica of this 3 years ago with Tito vs. Shamrock. Tito was 2-0 and Shamrock said he cheated they stopped it early!! What happened??? Tito destroyed him again in part 3, exactly what GSP will do. Then just like Shamrock, BJ will say he beat me fair and square and now I can move on. Dana needs to let them both move on.
Vaseline??? Are you fuck’n serious???
Just admit it, the best fighter won!!!
Did anyone think that maybe sweat was a factor of slickness and not vaseline?
I think that if it was reversed and if BJ was covered in lube, that he still would of got his ass WOOPED!!!
Now can we please move on, this is REDICULOUS!!!
Wow I was just about to write that Trigg should take his seat in obscurity…but he breaks this down pretty well (except for the little mix up thinking sbout retiring). I think Trigg sees value in giving props to someone that beat him rather than continually flogging his ass like Hughes, Mayhem etc.
I could care less what this washed up bum says. All Trigg does is go around to low ranking orgs. and beats nobodys up and later talks like hes the best. Stick to the corner or the microphone Trigg!
Great breakdown by Trigg. Couldn’t have said it better myself.
I wouldn’t watch a rematch of this. Yeah, it wasn’t a terrible fight, but it didn’t live up to the ridiculous hype that the UFC was putting on it. I think if they fight 10 times, it would be the same result. GSP trains harder and is stronger and will continue to just take BJ down and pound on him. If they want to give him a stern warning and even revoke the corner guy’s license, so be it, but if they declare this a No Contest it would be completely out of line.
I think BJ Penn should just be thankful that he didn’t have to put his belt on the line, and so the only thing he lost in that fight was the feeling in his face for a couple months.
As for rematch I don’t think that will ever happen, mainly because I don’t think anyone would pay to see it.
I agree with Frank Trigg. He’s a smart guy. He said pretty much what I was thinking.
I agree with CanProduce… This actually definitely gave Trigg some credit in my mind. I would love a 3rd fight between GSP/penn simply so I can pop some popcorn and sit down and enjoy penn getting punched in that loud mouth of his repeatedly.
gsp layed and prayed anyways…who wants to see that again? he did it against serra, hughes, fitch, and now penn. Without the weight advantage, he gets knocked out.
Vaseline????I have lost respect for BJ. He didn’t train enough and got destroyed by a much better fighter….Take your humble pie BJ.Stick with the 155.
BJ would get his ass whipped again.
georges st pierre is better fighter in all aspectes of the game vaseline or no vaseline
stop making these dumbass videos just to show off you’re wrist watch! go away wank trigg!
I am suprized nobody has ever complained about the consumption of lanolin…
seeps th epores when your sweating and more effective than vasaline
trigg said it like it i was thinking all this time. for those who are ripping trigg for giving his opinion on the vaseline gate, you all need to realize his point of view. hes a fighter. hes been in the cage. he would know more than any of you would,, so his on this view and any current fighter’s view on this matter would and should be noted. ill take his thoughts on this matter more than any of yours, cause hes been there and the rest of us just buy the ppv.
i dont think gsp honestly had any clue on it. and ill say his cornermen are innocent till proven otherwise. i say shades of gray there because no one knows for sure. i feel its something that has been overlooked and should be taken care of to make sure it dosent happen again. maybe the nasc should order one rep in each corner to apply the vas and oversee the corner in between rds.
trigg’s NOT accusing team gsp of anything but he knows for sure that the vas is absolutely NOT supposed to be where they put it. accidental or not.
its kinda like how in baseball, you can use a bat, but not a bat with a cork in it.
GSP was clearly illegally lubed. Hell, it was on camera for Cruise sake. The question and debate revolves around how much did it affect the GRAPPLING and SUBMISSIONS aspect of the fight.
Whether or not it changed the outcome of the fight, it prompted rule changes, and should receive a lengthy suspension from the State Athletic Commission. No tolerance. How do you now feel that your cornermen [plural -- Greg Jackson lubed GSP as well] are applying lubrication to your body?
E
Trigg is spot on.
I was reading a comment on another site about this issue. There was one writer on that site that actually took the time to read and post the rule regarding greasing as stated by the Nevada Athletic State Commission. Here’s how it reads below.
“The regulation in question, at NAC 467.598(2) prohibits the “excessive use of grease [...] on the face or body.” The remedy for a breach of this requirement, which is incorporated under the “physical appearance” heading of the regulations, is the removal of the excess grease.”
Apparently greasing of the body is actually legal, just not excessive. What constitutes excessive is not mentioned apparently, but I think that after reading that rule this is a discussion about nothing. A controversy about something that actually is legal and basically only shows how poorly informed we usually are when relying on media alone for information.
If one looks at the videos released on how little vaseline appeared to be on GSP’s corner man’s hand this without a doubt is a non-issue.
Honestly, I was going for GSP the whole time and was glad he won. although to the naked eye and average mma fan who doesn’t train jiu jitsu you do not know how hard it is to get a submission when your opponent in covered in sweat. Now sweat plus the vaseline IS an unfair advantage. there was times in the fight where bj went to mission control (off the rubber guard) and when he had a high guard (which could have been an end of the fight). Vaseline DOES give an unfair advantage and i would like to see a trilogy even though BJ got his ass beat
Matt Hughes also said he thought he used vasaline
the sport of mma is very young. i would also say that rules & regulations is as young as well and incidents like theses will help evolve the sport to be more fair in the future. there still a “perfecting” process thatll only get better with time. this is one of them.
niv, sure it may look like gsp c-man didnt have a lot of vas on at the time. but if you do it round after round a little at a time, say even in gsp’s past fights, there will be a good amount on there. a lil lube goes a long way. especially when the fighters sweat.
it also dosent take an excessive amount of cooking oil to grease a pan before you cook an egg.
I can’t believe this f*cking sh!t man!!!!
I call for a re-match and it will be the best fight in the world. For a mere $45.99 you can watch the new ungreased version!
GSP always lube up before he hugs and rolls around with another man. He really should be fighting out of San Francisco, but French Canadian land is close enough.
BJ got his ass rocked nuff said, little whining biatch, he ’s better off hoola hooping..
screw bj i want to see the alves vs gsp fight
Trigg is a cool guy, met him in vegas. He knows the fight game, not like some of you morons. :/
i no name, if you read the Athletic State Commission rules it says lube is allowed to the body as long as it’s not excessive.
I doubt that anyone can say by what they saw that it was even possible to excessively lube GSP in that fight.
If the rules allow it then this is a non-issue. That’s all I am trying to state. If they want to remove any doubt in the future the Nevada State Athletic Commission needs to either amend the rule or specify what an excessive amount of lube is.
well observed mr triggs!
as the rounds progressed BJ did NOT PASS GSP once to be concerned about the back being lubed it would be an honest gripe if BJ had ACTUALLY rear mounted GSP just once in the 4 rounds of abuse that was displayed but not once did that happend
Also that chump of a trainer RUDY VALENTINO is the weakest non-motivational trainer in the world look at all his mitt drills he is more Amateur than professional without my opinion it is an obvious fact that all BJ’s wins are based on BJ’s natural gifts as an athlete
VERY RETARDED to SCRAP GSP braddah BJ when we live at sea level the mainland altitude difference killed our hero…
I thought Rudy Valentino was a highly paid professional to ensure the best for his fighter?
OBVIOUSLY we all thought wrong…
After BJ’s defeat cornerman Rudy Valentino did not remind his athlete about sportsmanship conduct as BJ sits as a star in the publically viewed UFC venue
instead he tried to appeal the decision with a generic gripe about vaseline…
Where i am from its about a rope a chair with no vaseline just a little bit of gasoline…
(straight lenching)
RUDY VALENTINO needs to be FIRED in PUBLIC that would help gain some fan base back for BJ…
Mahalo for viewing
BTW HILO is nothing compared to Honolulu for those who have visited our home will verify that …
BJ u got your ass handed to you braddah
Niv is smarter than Trigg and everybody who repeated the same dumb comments after he educated them. Really? It’s hard to do jujutsu when the other guy is sweaty and slippery? No shit! Duh, who would have thought? Maybe that is why it was practiced while wearing a gi and pants for generations!? Make the guys wear rash guards at least. The Dana White impersonator should come to “french canadian land” and say that shit so he can get ass rapd with the business end of a hockey stick.
niv, i gots no time to look at the NASC rulebook, and im pretty sure you know what it says and i have no gripes about whatever the rules state on the matter. i also really feel that the NASC will look further and possibly make more refined changes to specify the rules in more detail as you have stated. so im with you on that.
what gets me and others is well is that a NASC official had to jump in the cage and wipe the vas off gsp. an NASC official should know and understand the rules more than any of us and if that NASC official had felt it “wasnt an excessive” amount of vas on gsp, he would not have gone in there to wipe it off in the first place. ..but he did.
but i think ill stop here cause i think im about to talk in circles. haha . but you do bring up a good point niv.
kau inoa, i totally agree with you. im 808 myself and i feel rudy isnt the guy that can push BJ further than where he is at now. ive always thought he look more of an ameteurish type of trainer. his mitt work looks even subpar even by hawaii standards. i have seen and even or hit better mitt work than that.
bj must find a new camp. he is one of the best in the world just based on talent alone. he needs a camp thatll push him further, break his limits. theres always room for improvement, even for the best. and thats why gsp does so well. hes constantly improving.
bj has gone as far as his talent and current training has taken him.others are gunning for him. florian is already training in the gsp camp for the penn fight. florian has a great camp. but he knows he is facing bj penn. so what does he do? he goes to a camp with where he can improve. bj, are you listening?
sad thing tho yeah kau inoa, we know here in hawaii its about family and sticking with the boys that help get you there. that sense of pride might force bj to be only as great as his talent.
but despite the vasgate, gsp was just too much physically for bj. MAYBE the fight would have been a “bit” more competitive. but who knows right? lets just be done with this and cook this fish.
i no name I understand yours and others posts on the commission rep’s jumping into the ring to wipe down GSP, the optics aren’t good.
This is exactly where they should look into the matter closer and make a clear ruling as to what went on from their perspective.
Did they go in after every round to wipe down GSP as some fighters like Chuck Lidell were stating they thought he was being greased there? Did they go in because he was putting an excessive amount on, or were they going in so they may avert any questions on the matter?
The Nevada State Commission needs to get on this and let people know what their findings are. If they think it’s serious enough then the UFC needs to set up a rematch and end the controversy once and for all. If the commission states they only acted that way as a precaution and there wasn’t evidence of wrong doing, let it go and move on.
TO all people of mma
A you guy’s with and open mind no disrespecting any one GSP is a great fighter no doub’t hands down.but if you watch the contraversy video you will be kind of pissed off, because we pay money to see a great fight right.and you’ll see in the backround chuck, frank, and dana all talking about it.MMA FIGHTERS OF THE WORLD AND WHO LOVE THE (SPORT) YOU ALL NO HOW HARD WE TRAIN BLACK EYES,BUSTED LIPS,AN SO ON, A FAIR LEVEL FIGHTING FEILD THAT’S ALL MAN. ONE MAN AGAINST ANOTHER MAN BREAKING EACH OTHERS WILL TO FIGHT.THAT’S WHAT SEPERATED (OUR SPORT) FROM ANY OTHER. TALK TO ME MY BRADDAZ!!!!
vaseline goes on a fighter’s face, gloves hit that face and now vaseline is on the gloves, fighters grapple and now vaseline is on gloves, face, and wherever the face touches the opponent, etc. the corner guy touched his back – so FN what? GSP pounded the sh*t outta BJ becuase he is the superior fighter in every respect. The end.
