UFC President Dana White announced the news on his Twitter account late Friday evening: “May 26th is now Mir vs. JDS for the HW title in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand,” he wrote.
Mir’s original opponent, Cain Velasquez, will remain on the card, however a replacement opponent has yet to be decided, Velasquez’s manager Bob Cook says.
Frank Mir (16-5) rides a three-fight win streak into the title bout, counting victories over Mirko Filipovic, Roy Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Its hard to imagine Mir having a chance against JDS. Judging by the timing of this announcement, I’m guessing that Dana White and crew didn’t want to go into tonight’s UFC with all that Overoid/failed test crap hanging over their head. Now they can go ahead and start fully promoting UFC 146 during tonight’s UFC. I hope they announce tonight who Cain’s opponent is going to be.
JDS is going to beat Mir up badly. Worse than Lesnar and Carwin combined!

well i guess Overeem’s 2nd sample came up horse meat… Mir will probably lose by KO unless it turns our like big nogs fight. He can always pull a sub out last minute, its his bread and butter.

Mir deserves it, of course, but I would have loved watching JDS and Mark Hunt going at it.
I never bet against Mir as both his bjj and his ability to find something to twist/break when he is “out” are uncanny. JDS is easily the favorite and should finish it in the first round.
But JDS opening as -500 favorite makes me want to bet a couple of bucks on Mir just for the fun of it.

Good decision. IF somehow Overeem gets licensed, he’ll probably fight Cain, but business wise, they couldn’t risk their main event getting screwed up with so little time left..

I think logic happened.The guy didn’t test positive for any PED but we all know 14:1 ratio can only be attainable with PEDs.Dana is not that dumb he knows he took some PED don’t even need to listen to his lies he will tell the 24th.

I love Mir, one of my top 10. He is going to sleep in round 1 though. Mir has no chin and is slower than JDS, he won’t be able to avoid the strikes. His only shot is as soon as the bell rings, lay down and hope JDS falls into his guard.

Mir will come in with a smart game plan this time and take it to the ground. If he can submit Nog he can sub JDS. Mir via submission/gnp. All JDS has is his power punches. As long as Mir can dance around them he’ll win. Mir’s boxing and foot work is better than JDS’. His ground game is better than JDS’.

I’d rather see this anyways. Anyone who thought Overeem hasn’t used PED’s is naive.
The idea is simple: they need to promote the next UFC during this show or they will have even more financial problems. Overeem’s defense obviously didn’t give the Fertitas and or Douchy Dana enough security for them to wait.
Imagine if they put all the money in a lot of promotional materials today, just to find out that the fight is not happening on the 24th.
Simple business planning: they are cutting their losses while they are not too damaging.

This is why this company is one the decline, Mir is a vet with notable wins, but this is such a bad fight in so many ways. Reem cheated and I respect that bald guys choice to ban him but Mir with JDS is f**king dumb. He has Prob the best takedown D for a HW and throws a literal bomb. whether overreem is caught or not he has been using some kind of doping drug in someways there is no way in hell someone can pack 80 pounds of pure muscle in a year or two. the guy was a skinny toothpick I’ve been watching him for a while in a matter of a year he was unrecognizable his face and jaw were indication of some kind of steroid use, I don’t care how much he lies about how he doesn’t or hasn’t used I don’t believe him. I’ve known professional bodybuilders and trust me his transformation from being so skinny to be that huge is humanly impossible with out drugs in such a short time.
Mir should be given more credit…he submitted Brock, he submitted Nog, he submitted Kongo…he is the best submission guy in the division. Of course if he boxes JDS he will lose but he won’t. This will be an exciting fight if Frank goes in with a good gameplan.
Hmmmm, well I love both fighters, Mir more so for his personality and time with the UFC. But I am agreed that this is going to be a tough on for him.
In all perfect honesty I think Mir has to rush and take JDS to the ground, there is no way he is going to win a boxing match with JDS.
