Griffin and Gracie had nothing to do with the show. All that happens is Griffin submits Gracie (file that under NEVER) and then gets shot like 5 minutes into the episode. The rest of it is about two other guys. It was painfully obvious that they just used them to get sucker MMA fans like me to watch the show when they wouldn't have otherwise. OK, you got me.
