not good…he looked stiff, the bounce in his step wasn’t there, he took a couple shots on the chin that had they been thrown by a tougher guy would have ended his night and worst of all the finish looked fixed. I love Fedor and I hope a few wins will help him get his stride back, but his reluctance to fight top competition and train in America has always been his biggest weakness. Being afraid to lose is almost a guarantee to lose.

Fedor is meant for the ring ive always said. He cant fight agaisnt people who will hold him down in a cage and is bigger than him. If fedor would have equal stength to some of the bigger heavyweights he would be impossible to beat. He is a small heavyweight and the ring favours his size and style. You guys can say well dan handerson was the same size yes but fedor made the same mistake agaisnt dan henderson as he did agaisnt werdum. Fedor rushed in on these opponents and it cost him the fight. In the monson fight and in this fight he doesnt look as fat and he actually uses tecnique and doesnt rush in right away. Fedor can still be in the ufc just needs to climb the ladder once again.

@ paddededummy, im not a fedor hater, but lets take a closer look at fedors supposed reign during his pride days. For the most part, during the the same time period, there was a core group of maybe 8 to 10 non asians who basically dominated pride. These included brasillians, europeans, americans, etc. Some of these are guys like cro cop, wanderlei, hendo, vitor, rampage, nog, and a few others. Of this core group, any one could basically beat any of the others on a given day.
Of this core group of elite fighters, the only ones fedor beat were cro cop and nog, and even then they were decisions. The rest of the time he was busy fighting hong man choi , big daddy goodritch,and various other non competitors or freaks who honestly had no chance, and were meant to do nothing more than pad his record (imo). Were he as great as many felt he was, then he should have done as many of the other pride elite did, and come to the ufc (some of whom held belts). Sure he beat a washed up tim silvia (who was never very good anyway), and arlovsky, who until he got cocky and threw a flying knee, was beating fedor.
Although fedor is a great fighter, by no means do i think he is the greatest fighter. I seriously doubt if he was even the best in pride. Fedor is not that old, there are former pride stars older than him like hendo who are still fighting top competition and winning.
Fedor has chosen to ignore the fact that his legacy and greatness are in question, and instead of taking fights that will prove his superiority, fedor has chosen to fight the likes of jeff monson (monson is no slouch, but when you have world class fighters like overeem wanting to fight you, choosing monson seems like a cop-out). Also fighting relatively unknown guys whom you outwiegh by 30 pounds in the dream new years eve freak show event is no way to secure your legacy or prove your greatness. It seems just another way to add a win to your record before retiring.

I respectfully disagree with Fedor haters, as well as Fedor fans. there’s a huge difference between a ring and an octagon, starting by the enormous size of the octagon. We saw him and Cro-Cop try and stalk fighters in the cage, getting no result at all, simply because in the ring you have straight ropes and corners, whereas in an octagon there are no corners; yes, it has a fence, but while fighting on their feet fighters have a whole lot more space to run away, as we constantly see strikers do in their fights. Hendo adapted his game, became more mobile and thus gets a chance to get their rivals and give them some. Still, I’d like to see this “new generation of octagon fighters” perform in a ring with Fedor. Might change something.

@Lucas it seem hader on fighter to fight in a octagon. Stand up fighters that is. In a ring they will reset you if you almost fall out the ring vs there is no escape out the octagon if you’re pressed up against it. It’s wrestlers heaven if you ask me.
