This would have been an awesome fight 10 years ago. Now, it’s a bit weird and sad.
Anyone saying s*** about Fedor or Monson have no idea of MMA’s history and evolution.
It’s like saying Royce Gracie sucks now. It makes absolutely no sense. MMA is the fastest evolving sport on Earth because it makes people test everything, old and new, on a daily basis. Fedor and Monson came from a time where people were still figuring it out what worked or not. Now, they are just getting passed by the new supertrained, hight-tech fighters. Call them cans if you want; I am pretty sure most of you who use that word wouldn’t step in a cage or ring to fight any of the cans they beat. Not even the weakest of them.

Thank you PitFighterZ. The fan base of MMA now that it’s become mainstream is a bunch of kids, who most likely never saw a Pride Event, and remembers Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn as WWF wrestlers. They also seem to think UFC is exclusively the only MMA promotion with any talented fighters. You can’t really compare a Mig3 fighter plane from world war II with the Boeing F-22′s we use now, can you? It’s called progress, evolution. The only thing unfortunate is that Fedor didn’t evolve with the sport… the same skills and techniques that allowed him to dominate 10 years ago is the basic fundamentals now. He’s like the guy who still uses windows 95. So, where I’d like to say f*** you to all the people on trash talking, this fight actually is irrelevant at this point. Sad.

Let’s face it, Fedor is not a top 10 HW. Top 20 ? Maybe. Forget rankings and forget his past, he is what he is, today. He will never beat top HW guys again. New fighters are younger, bigger, fitter and more skilled. He is today what he is today. He is fighting Monson for a few bucks. He’s not looking for a shot at any titles. His best days and opportunities are behind him. That said, I’m guessing all of you will be watching this “irrelevant” fight. Fedor has brought excitement to this sport for many years. He deserves a little respect.

this sort of BS is bad for the sport as it gains more worldwide attention.
It reeks of pitting irrelevant fighters against contenders and high level athletes just as happens in boxing CONSTANTLY.

seriously guys jeff monson is not a can a couple years ago he beat both sergei kharitonov and roy nelson. he has one multiple grappling tourneys. obviously he is not a top heavyweight or anything but a solid fight for fedor considering he lost his last three and is no longer under the zuffa banner. i thought he would indeed fight a nobody just some random fighter that has never fought anyone good either that or i thought m1 was gonna feed fedor tim silvia again or maybe a fight with todd duffee
