Sure, Werdum’s stand up has improved, but is still light years away from Dos Santos. I think. Good solid win here, nonetheless.

PitfighterZ Says, in 6-24-2012 at 10:54:56 from

Werdum needs to improve his speed. He is not making a run for the title if it takes hims a full second to throw a kick or punch. JDS and Velasquez will just beat him to the punch every time.
It always pisses me off. The guy has technique, but he just won’t work his cardio and speed.

Powertele Says, in 6-24-2012 at 11:01:34 from

Werdum lost my support when he laid on the ground all night against Overeem. I just cannot dig that. Get up and scrap dude. He only boxed a guy that was a huge under dog against him. He would never stand with Dos Santos.

My eyes aren’t so great but I thought I seen a lot of shots straight to the back of the head.
(Awesome player BTW)

Great Job Bruno!

DavesNotHereMan Says, in 6-24-2012 at 13:50:30 from

Those shot all looked like the back of the head, which is odd that Herb didn’t say anything considering he’s the worst ref in the game and usually calls anything past the nose “back of the head”

lmao people think werdum can stand and trade now. give him mark hunt

Benjii Says, in 6-24-2012 at 15:55:18 from

Some shots to the back of the head but he was def. hurt from that uppercut.

thaddiuslustre Says, in 6-24-2012 at 16:21:27 from

Werdum simply isn’t comfortable in stand-up mode! no matter how they try to train him. The old adage goes: you can’t teach an old dog new tricks; and that definitely applies to him.

I’ll go on a limb & say he was outright lucky to have gotten the drop on Russow in this manner; thanks in part to Russow’s apparent pudginess & seemingly questionable conditioning, coupled with pathetic refereeing(rabbit).

facephucke Says, in 6-24-2012 at 16:23:56 from

WErdum can always hold his own, I would give him a title shot but his only hope is takedowns followed by submission. IF he won it would be lucky and being somewhat one sided is soon going to be a thing of the past…

im not really a werdum fan..but russo sucks even worse. im pretty sure russo will be lucky to have a job after this fight. he looked fat, slow, and out of shape. he looked like he didnt want to be there.

dazzers Says, in 6-24-2012 at 18:52:50 from

Mike Russow- Fat, Slow, and no real boxing ability by heavyweight standards. Hard to see what there is to like about him. Am I being to harsh? probably

Joe Dog Says, in 6-24-2012 at 20:11:02 from

@dazzers. Not too harsh. Russow looked like a sick fat guy with a hangover. Hello Bellator…Russow vs Brett Rogers

iWay Says, in 6-25-2012 at 00:03:19 from

russow was not ready for this step up in competition

mmafan Says, in 6-25-2012 at 00:23:15 from

I think Werdum’s standup is doing much better, he even looked good in standup vs Overeem, but he decided to have an Anderson Silva moment and act a little strange by begging Overeem to go to the ground with him, which is ok for proving a point but not for winning a fight.
Werdum might make it quite competitive in a fight with Dos Santos assuming JDS gets past Cain.

mmafan Says, in 6-25-2012 at 00:53:13 from

All props to Russow, the guy is tough as nails but may be a bit past his prime or just not ready for the big leagues, he had a great run though.

Yommomamoto Norifumi Says, in 6-25-2012 at 02:44:51 from

Who is Russow and how, besides being the convenient can to toss to Werdum when invading Brazil with their franchise (the UFC) to ramp up popularity, is Russow relevant in the top HW’s?

Like where do these guys hang in between everyone?

I guess you’ve got to have them but can’t can fight cans and then move on up….it’s not rocket science Mr “The only place where the best fighters fight the best all the time is the UFC” Silva.

vsmoove Says, in 6-25-2012 at 09:48:49 from

Was he always this out of shape?

kryptonite Says, in 6-25-2012 at 13:30:09 from

give the guy a break he won didnt he won ,was great against nelson title shot why not fedor was basically unbeaten until werdum up set the odds again anything can happen

murell Says, in 6-25-2012 at 17:25:29 from

Lot’s of back of the head shot’s,Herb dean Suck’s, but that’s what the U.F.C wanted, when they fight in Brazil they almost always stack the cards in Brazils favor for the fans.

tobes Says, in 6-26-2012 at 04:39:53 from

@Everyone above me–you are all very tough keyboard warriors. Prior to this fight Russow had 4 straight wins in the UFC and 11 straight wins in MMA overall. He is not a can. He’s a tough wrestler. He knocked out Todd Duffee while fighting with a broken arm (broken in first or second round). Not everyone in life, especially HWs, is cut like a bodybuilder. Russow is strong and well conditioned.
