Kids sparring in 4oz gloves with head shots = bad idea.
At least put them in a pair of Shooto’s or something.

MMA should not be practiced at such an early stage. Kids should prepare technically and phisically. Swimming, gymnastics, stretching and developing the bone and muscle stucture by practicing sports that allow a healthy development of the mind and the body. MMA should not be practiced before the age of fourteen or fifteen. Kids should start with judo, jujitsu and karate.

wth, at least when i did kickboxing when i was 12 we got face protectors. some of these kids could break their noses and lose teeth. and they shouldnt allow little kids to knee, could easily and seriously injure another kid.

Have to agree with MMA Kid…nothing wrong in training a martial art…but contact fighting in children is wrong.
I think the best thing about learning a martial art rather than just fighting is that you learn not only how to defend yourself (from bullies for eg) but importantly you learn to RESPECT your teacher and your fellow athletes/opponents. Furthermore, you learn to live your life according to your martial art’s/groups ideals, rather than violence.

There are tons of combat sports out there that have been training kids for a long time. Some of the greatest mixed martial artists have come throught wrestling – it’s one hell of a lot safer sport for kids. BJJ is probably another, judo… There’s no shortage of options. Having kids that young start MMA training is straight-up insane. At age 15, that’s another thing, but a four-year old kid doing MMA… this makes me sick.

mmafighter32 Says, in 7-23-2008 at 09:39:24 from 75.75.161.241

ok so too far…protective head gear and body shots only first of all…second why would you put your kid in a mma…give the kid pure kenpo, then have him wrestle in high school as well as taking bjj…if he loves it enough, he will develop into a pure mma. The guy that does the shark tank is an egotistical ass out for his own image but the other guy came off as genuine. IN any ase, i think the basics of kenpo is good for kids so they learn how to defend themselves, bjj next, then combat karate (is a mma style but doesnt take it to the extreme..basic mma), then if they want to pursue it further, its up to them when they are developmentally sound to do so.

They aren’t doing anything they wouldn’t be doing in a regular karate or traditional martial arts class except using the smaller gloves. Kids have been doing martial arts for centuries. Plus, kids hurt themselves no matter what they’re doing. What is so wrong with this that can’t be said about other martial arts as well?

It’s either this or joining a gang and violent TV. These teachers seem to be level-headed and instill discipline and respect in their students. This is far better than the unguided kids and teenageers that are out there today.

Wow, if I was a kid 4-8 and my parents could afford it, I would rather be in gutierrez’s dojo than that that other guy, because it looks like fun 6:30. While the other one, the kid at 10:20 summed it all up, “it’s too scary.” I’ll probably end up traumatised, but hard as hell.

what kind of a sick society can allow kids in their early stage of personality building, allow them to develop the sense of combat and agression in a way they cannot yet understand nor control? Only the same kind of society that has been allowing its government to send their children to war over and over again through history under lies and false evindences of threats. Americans… wake up. It’s a sick world out there, and you have such a responsability in that. Make your kids read books of history not written only by mainstream americans. Make your kids read about other cultures and if possible(not everybody can) make them travel and see for themselves. Educate them to be more openminded that you and your ancestors.

let people live their own lives and make thier own decisions. So 15 yrs old is ok but 13 isn’t? says who? you? When your kid is 15 that is when they should start because if it is your kid then it is up to you.

that kids knew if he told his dad he wanted to quit… his dad would give him anoyher bloody nose

Viking Says, in 7-24-2008 at 14:21:53 from 128.111.165.41

WOW! Again, I am amazed at the reaction to this topic on this board (wonder that someone hasn’t started a thread about it yet…). Just like last time, it seems to be about 75-80% against, 10% for. I don’t understand. Kids get ridaculed, ostracized and sometimes injured in Little League. tramatized by their adult coaches and get broken bones in Pee-Wee football, bullied at school by bigger kids/karate kids/boxing kids, etc.

I mean, our level of temporal arrogance within society as a whole is amazing to say the least. “It’s not right,” or “It sickens me,” or any other such objection. Why? Becasue it’s ‘Morally bad’ (whatever the fuck that means)? Because it’s suddenly gonna change those kids into killers/bullies/other societal fear? Give me a break. Every kid who does boxing doesn’t go out and beat up on every other kid. Same with karate, wrestling, etc.

I believe that the rules should be softened and amended for different age groups, but the last few hundred years has been the only time thus far in human history that society has even given a shit that their children should be fighting. Not even only fighting, but doing ANY kind of physical activity. Found out yesterday that P.E. isn’t even mando. in schools any more. No wonder bour kids are so fat…

But I digress.

Joe Says, in 7-24-2008 at 16:40:31 from 66.182.202.145

Well, as my son says, “Parents condone football where even if a team is getting slaughtered they can’t quit until time has expired.”

Marc Buoniconti, son of HOF Linebacker Nick, was paralyzed; a 1985 spinal cord injury left him unable to move a muscle below his neck. Oh, doesn’t football generate revenue for universities? Is a sport that has the potential to render a participant a quadriplegic not violent?

Legislative involvement was mentioned. I say, how many of the student athletes in accepted sports are illiterate by my standards? I think legislators should be worrying about athletic academic achievement before MMA for children comes under scrutiny.

This is still a free country the last time I checked; let people swing all they want as long as they don’t hit you in the nose.

And maybe, just maybe, one of these MMA children will save a loved one’s life some day.

I don’t think I would like my kid to get beat on.
I think that there are laws that protect
children from child abuse and in this circumstance
it seems that abusive parents have simply passed the buck. I am an mma student myself and we are smart enough to know that training like this could only lead to injury or death. The parents of these children should take hard look at themselves and realize the abuse there child is going threw. They
may not learn what they have done until one of the kids get old enough to kick one of there asses or gets seriously injured.

Viking? What are you talking about? I never said MMA breeds killers… But did you hear what that coach was yelling to motivate his kids? “MAKE HIM PAY FOR MESSING UP YOUR HAIR” or somthing to that effect… I want MMA for kids, better regulated MMA for kids… as for this video…. It is disgusting, irrespinsible and outragous… whatever that means? it means i dont want my kids getting kicked in the throat by some kid how cant control his body.
