The Ultimate Fighter TUF 8 Finale MMA fight video of Efrain Escudero Vs. Phillipe Nover. |
if (is_feed()) { die(); }
Im so pissed that little mexican won but he fight smart and avoided heavy exchanges with phileppe but i was even more pissed when nover didnt put that little kid in a submission. He JUST recieved a black belt in jiu jitsu. I hope phileppe gets a contract with the UFC.
Wow! That first punch that rocked Felipe decided the fight! Escudero basicaly outsmarted Felipe during the whole thing.
Great fight!
too many of you dirt bags get upset when wrestlers utilize their discipline. Morons, it’s part of the sport, learn to appreciate it.
where are the filipino nut-huggers now!?! efrain owned that pud!!
I can tell Efrain, was scared of Phillipe . he just wait for him to punch then take down.
he could not last with Phillipe on the end of third round he was getting pounded and looks very third.
they should have done forth round , to see who is the real tough guy. Efrain got lucky
Hi…Flip Nut Hugger here.
I don’t know what happened. He got rocked early and seemed to lose his drive to win.
He may be weak mentally until he matures.
the FLIP “nut-hanger” is right here ! Just because phillipe lost to a fighter which was a great match for him doesn’t mean we run away and never speak of his name ever again. This fight only makes Phillipe better, and I hope he doesn’t fall into the “runner up bug” if you look back at all the other TUF runners up they either fight once and lose or not fight ever. (not including Ken Flow) but as of phillipe, I became a fan, and I still see this kid making it. He just might do the “ken flow work out” not become the TUF winner but later on be a lightweight contender.
hey tried to hype up phillipe way to much during the show. haha nut huggers lol,
great fight! I think phillipe didn’t get his dose of balut…kinda’ like not getting a shot of a 5-hour energy drink.
efrain fought smart, so he’s got my cred.
I hope these two get to fight again.
The ‘toughest nurse in the world’ will prevail!
awesome fight. Efrain is a bad ass technical fighter. Sick game plan and he stuck with it.
Time to face it folks: It’s a wrestler’s game. What non wrestlers fail to realize is that these guys are second tier (Couture), third tier (Lesnar), and fourth tier (Hughes) wrestlers we’re talking about, and they’re beating world champs in other disciplines. Wait until a world or Olympic champion wrestler decides to enter the octagon. There’s not a fighter in MMA who could stay off his back against an Olympic wrestling medalist. Just add enough BJJ to stay out of subs and the actual fight’s just a formality.
Efrain is not just a wrestler, he has sick submissions and submission defense. My props to the “little Mexican”.
Hecho en Mexico!!
^ too bad Kurt angle is too old since he is an Olympic gold medalist even tho he wants to try mma he is too old
Nover could have made it a fight. He would not take the risks either.
As far as Nover dominating the last round, he went for a move and let the clock run out. With 2 rounds in his pocket Hecho had no reason to risk his safe position
When nover finally lost the hold all he did was kick the little mexicans legs, where were his diving punches like Hecho did in rounds 2 and 3?
Don’t be such Homies Nover go dominated plain and simple.
As far as how good Hecho is he is 12-0 and Nover is 6-0-1 and if i am not mistsaken actually two years younger than Nover
I can understand if you like the much prettier Nover but he was not as aggressive, not as strong, and not as skilled.
You have to be well-rounded. That’s it. Don’t look at the past,(though I could cite olympic wrestlers you have lost badly whether by strikes or submission), don’t look at the present, but look at the future of the sport. To be the best you cannot have big holes in any part of your game. That said, wrestling is just has fundamental to MMA as any other discipline.
I was expecting Phillepe to dominate. But, Efrain, somehow, seemed to be way physically stronger than when he was on the show! I can see that Efrain trained really hard for this fight.
Escudero is still a punk in my book – good luck trying to make a name for yourself in one of the toughest divisions in the UFC.
it didnt show u it on this vid but wen i watchd it on the tv nover came out nd he lookd nervous honest to god i turnd round to my brother nd says the same thing nd i thought he was goin to win my prediction was nover wins by sub second round ps also thought vinni was goin to win hahahha glad he didn cause of the nog thing
jeremyemilio: I would still rate jiu jitsu over wrestling… in MMA it’s not the same since you can practice fighting against the other art., and punches on the ground changes the whole grappling dynamics.
One more thing, I have yet to see a wrestler win the ADCC
Good fight by the way, both had a chance to win it, good game plan by Efrain. Nover must have thought he was just going to walk in the cage to collect the win.
I honestly thought that both Jiu jitsu guys were going to win, simply because I didn’t believe that the wrestlers would be able to develop a plan and stick to it, I was wrong. Good win for both guys.
i give props to efrain, he avioded phillipes heavy standup, by nearly ducking under exchange, and just imposed his wrestlers will on phillipe.
i would of wanted to see phillipe have some better takedown defense, especially since knowing his opponent, but hey, you win some, you lose some.
At first I was frustrated by Efrain’s win cause I wanted more standup action but then realized he carried off a very solid gameplan. Furthermore Philippe couldn’t adjust to it so Efrain deserves major props. I’m curious to see how a 5-rounder would’ve gone though. This fight was fun to watch, not some boring wrestle-fest like Guida/Danzig.
Phillipe looked scared/nervous at the beginning of the fight and throughout..(I watched it on tv so this may have been more evident..). I think he was feeling the pressure, especially with Dana building him up so much..
Efrain did look better than on the show, but I still don’t think he’s that great, and yes, he would get pwned by any contenders in the lw division.
hell yeah Hecho en Mexico…beat that “little asian.”
Like a couple of the above posters referenced, a strong wrestler always has the advantage against an opponent not well versed in wrestling. As Rogan says about 20 times a broadcast, a wrestler can take the fight wherever he wants at any point in the fight. Boring to watch at times, but u need to be a strong wrestler these days to dominate. As for Whites comparison to GSP, that quickly vanished in 15 min last nite. There is only 1 and only GSP. Sorry Phillipe.
Philipe will be a solid fighter.
Alot of preasure. I see him rounding
out his game and being a solid pro fighter.
Great fight. I’m really impressed with Efrian, I really thought that Phillipe was going to overwhelm him. It showed that Efrian has been training really hard after the show and developed a smart gameplan.I also liked that he kept the aggression, utilized some decent ground and pound, and even went for submissions, unlike many wrestlers who just like to lay and pray.
i knew he was gonna win i was going for Escudero throughout the whole show and now he won the finale that’s awesome.
Both of those fighters are very good.. I can’t wait to see them go at it again years down the road. Ufc will pick up Nover.
if efrain wont be able to do anything in the lightweight div. than phillipe should just quit fighting cause he got owned
Csari0: Mark Kerr won both the Over 99KG and Absolute ADCC World Championships back in 2000, competing against several BJJ guys.
Forgot to comment on the fight..
Props to Efrain for the solid gameplan and performance. I was one of many on the Nover war wagon that I thought would steam roll it’s way to victory. I do hope he still gets a contract. Phillipe needs to train at an established gym for starters..look what it did for Junie. There’s just something about him that seems like he has an endless amount of potential, even disregarding Dana White’s hype-machine. I don’t see it in Efrain. Only time can tell though.
Nover looked really nervous and I thought he would have done a lot better. But, he has no takedown defense and wasn’t able to utilize his striking or JJ very much. Efrain deserves the win for controlling the fight, avoiding Nover’s punches, and getting in some strong hits.
Nover knows what he needs to work on now; takedowns, and takedown defense.
Nover will become the next Pacman Pacquiao in MMA– he will devour all of his mexican opponent–i guarantee that when he fight escudero again he will end up like all the mexican boxing legends—Nover the “mexicutioner”
How can some of you say this fight was boring.
Efrain´s got to be one of the most exiting wrestlers out there.
GSP is what he is, mostly because of his wrestling.
And this comments come from a guy who likes wrestling the least of all disciplines.
kaotika: Mark Kerr won both the Over 99KG and Absolute ADCC World Championships back in 2000, competing against several BJJ guys.
Yeah, he did, by points. There is still a lot of negative spin to wrestlers in MMA in general, but it is a very heavy aspect of how the rounds are judged. Consistent takedowns, staying “active” enough on top and sub defense creates a win; which is what Efrain wanted to do for that contract. Will he make a name for himself during his contract? Who knows but I don’t see it. Takedowns and points are one thing but most great fighters want to finish.
to the psot above PacquiaoNover nut huger:
#1 Pacquiao lost to MArquez, he got a free gift
#2 De la Hoya is and old bastard who cant move or punch, and he beat him..WOW
#3 Pacquiao will never fight neither coto, margarito, clottey and none of the real guys at 147
#4 Nover got owned and now you say that hes going to own the UFC? LOL
Reality check-yo-self brother
I think Nover still have a chance in UFC, but he needs to get a lot smarter.
Escudero is already there. Although, I don’t see him as a great fighter, he is smart enough to overcome any great fighter who underrates him.
In MMA, I’d say that 10% of success is based on talent, 50% on hard work, 20% on not being a pussy, and 20% on being smart.
Escudero has shown he he has the hard work and the smarts parts to grow in the sport.
pacquiaoNNover
manny is the man right now, and he is a great fighter. the problem with all the mexicutioner talk is that manny is the best boxer the phillies have ever produced.
mexico has produced more world champions than any other country at under 150 pounds.
so enjoy manny for now he is one… so i guess you have to take your victories where you can get em.
btw
Chavez
Sanchez
Ramirez
Olivarez
Lopez
were much better fighters than manny and thats in the last 15 years and off the top of my head.
pretty good fight,Efrain just out fought Phillipe.plain & simple,he had a gameplan and executed it.
Nover was nervous, he didn’t have his game face on, the “switch” wasn’t “on”. He needs to relax and be more fluid, he’s very stiff on his feet,no lateral movement. He is very muscular and vascular for 155, kinda like he’s always posing, probably walks around 165-170 normally. He had no take down defense, should have used more hooks and upper cuts, as oppose to trying to land the one-two combo, he needs to mix it up, take his striking to another level. He didn’t change his game plan, when he kept getting taking down, he should have adjusted, maybe his corner had no back up plan.
i was hoping phillipe would win but he looked lost and nervous. efrain had a solid game plan… take phillipe down and avoid his power punches. he deserved the win..
jeremyemilio!!!are you a stupid person where do you get yuor info from everyguy you said is a Division 1 wrestling champion so wtf are you talking about????
And there has been a medalist in the cage “matt lindland” and take alook at his record
man phillipe made a big mistake jumping in on efrain. He wouldve won if he let efrain hit first and if he countered. but good job on Efrain with those takedowns.
The thing is, when you think about it, there is no Mexican fighter out there right now that can take on Manny. Maybe there is someone out there that is building up to be the warrior that the Mexican people are waiting for, but as of Saturday night, there is not one Mexican boxer that can take his crown. This is why many have dubbed Manny “The Mexicutioner.” Does anyone out there know of some knight in shining armor that can defeat this Grendel? Beowulf is dead, so who can rise to such a beast?
As for boxing mexican and filipino fan:

As for MMA mexican and filipino fan alike:
Efrain and Nover are great buddies during the show even now–
Efrain even said Nover is not the next anderson silva yet– but he maybe in the future–
Dont get me wrong mexicans are great people– but filipinos are now starting to produce great boxers and mma fighters–
Just a little bit of history
In 1905, a great filipino boxer name Francisco Guilledo– who called himself “pancho villa” ” Pancho villa was a great mexican revolutionaty–francisco and most filipinos adores the mexican heritage–
Francisco won 109 fights and loss 8 fights–and he was only 23 at that time…
And yes, Filipinos produced great fighters and as well as mexicans–
reality check for all of us– whoever mma or boxer fighter we are cheering for either he is mexican, filipino, american or whoever —remember– they are the one who are making millions — we are just expectator of the sports– why dont we just enjoy and be amaze that they are making lots and lots of money and here we are —paying $49.00 PPV to watch them –giving our share to their fortune–Peace
