first! alvarez did not look good in this fight at all. he got the win but he was waaaaaaaayyy slow. he has great hands normally but this was not impressive at all. he just didn’t wanna let his hands go

Good fight – Kikuno was definitely getting the better of Alvarez in the first round, but Eddie was still getting some shots in. I don’t know why the ref didn’t separate them early in the first when it looked like Kikuno spent a minute trying to break Alvarez’s neck. You could see how much it messed him up for a bit right after he escaped.

The second was all Eddie – wore Kikuno out with a beautiful guillotine, lost it and then just picked apart an exhausted Kikuno. After that half-hearted attempt at a guillotine, Eddie reversed so easily and ended it. Nice sub.

Eddie Alvarez is really good at a couple things, but that coupled with his heart get him through some tough situations. He’s kind of like a way better Clay Guida with crappier cardio. Good fight. Thanks for the upload Bruno!

Yeah, yeah, good job by Eddie. I thought that neck crank hurt him in the beginning. But, he gassed that dude with the guillotine and finished him with an arm triangle.

not impressed with Alvarez’s submission game… couldn’t finish the guillotine, and wasn’t impressed with the form of the kata gatame. It wasn’t pretty, but it worked so whatever.

^^^ erm, no. It was a sloppy kata gatame, better known as an “arm triangle”.

In wrestling it’s known as head and arm control.

A properly executed Kata gatame uses the crook of your elbow to cut off one coratid artery, while you force your opponents shoulder into his neck cutting off his other coratid artery- IF you execute it properly (not how Alvarez did it). Without the proper positioning, this technique takes a while to cut off the flow of blood to the brain, as seen here.
