I’ve never heard of either of these two. I think maybe the red head was on one of the TUF shows, but I can’t remember. It’s only round two and both are gassed and they look like amateurs. Herman escapes a triangle and then goes right back into one? Give me a break.

wow those guy were both really gassed in that 2nd round I had to check to make sure it was the 2nd because it looked like the third I really want to know what happend in the first round now……….. Atleast Herman got submitted like a man and didn’t “tap out like a little bitch”

I hate people like that, you know what happens if you don’t tap due to your foolish pride? Your career ends, break your arm badly enough, or leg, and get choked out long enough to cause brain damage. Your career as a fighter is over, all because you didn’t want to look like “a little bitch.” These guys are professional athletes, it’d be stupid for them to let themselves get injured badly for a reason as dumb as that. Get a brain man. He probably didn’t think he was going to go out like that, It’s possible he wasn’t being choked, but the blood was being cut off from his brain, which is considerably more dangerous.

It’s a VERY unprofessional attitude to have. SHAME on Goldberg for saying that…there are too many knuckleheads that will try JJ at home without knowing what they’re doing or how dangerous it is. Hold on long enough and a choke is fatal.

Sick fight. Maia does JJ at the same level that Silva strikes. Definitely the best pure jj in UFC. He just needs a way better gas tank and to improve his hands and he should start becoming a contender within the next year. Hell he even tooled okami in ADCC, but that’s not mma so it probly means nothin.

True mostly everyone taps. Not tapping I believe though does show a slight sense of toughenss or refusal to except defeat, maybe not smart but shows some sort of heart. Ed did tap to a triangle though from jasona macdonald, which goes to show the inconsistency of herman.

But hey once your caught your caught, some submissions it gets to the point that you can’t escape once it’s locked in tight enough for long enough. Got to tap out or pass out.

rotfl Herman was NOT paying attention cause Maia pulled the same exact transition to the triangle twice in a row, within 30 seconds. Also, don’t forget that chokes SUCK, especially when you have a wrist compressing your adams apple/windpipe… it can be quite painful.

There is a big difference between not tapping to a blood choke and not tapping to an arm or leg lock. With the blood choke there is pretty much no risk of injury, simply passing out does not take you out of commission for long. On the other hand an armlock can be career ending, so you are a moron if you absolutely refuse to tap.

As this was a bloodchoke it wasn’t necessarily stupid of Herman to go out, just stubborn. However the fact that he promised he wouldn’t tap next time (when MacDonald triangled him) does show a fair amount of will and determination as a fighter.

Never heard of Maia? He’s a legend. His BJJ is phenomenal. I actually never gave Herman a chance in this one, although he’s improved a lot since TUF.

Both guys were gasping for air in the second round. Herman was so exhausted he didn’t couldn’t defend himself for the relentless bjj moves that were being thrown at him. It goes to show you, no point in having awesome bjj moves, sledgehammer elbows and fists, and thunderous kicks and knees if there is no gas in the tank.

Because laying limp on the mat while your opponent is celebrating (and not being able to shake his hand), then twitching/convulsing around a little before being filled in on where you are and how you got there makes you look like a real man. Ed Herman is not overrated. Just happens that “someone you have never heard of” is one of the best, if not the best BJJ fighters in the world. I can understand why you think Herman is overrated, as you obviously don’t know shit about the game, its strategy, or it’s fighters. Ever thought about changing your spectator sport preference to say …Golf ? It’s easier understand than MMA, but your still gunna struggle with the TOP names in the sport.

If you get a chance, ask Demian Maia if he thinks Ed Herman is overrated. My guess is he doesn’t share your opinion. He knows Shortfuse is one bad mf.
