Ares- I cannot believe you are trying to relate what EliteXC has done to what Dana is doing with Lesnar. Are you kidding me?!?! I totally see Dana’s side as from a business standpoint. Granted Lesnar is cherry, but he has at least faught decent competition compared to what EliteXC has done with “Kim”bo. I don’t blame Dana for jumping at a chance to slay the competition, but truth be told UFC has been shamelessly promoting certain fighters over others even way before Brock Lesnar. The one I always point to is Matt Hughes. They gave that guy so many opportunities it’s not even funny. Don’t get me wrong, what Elite is doing is fucked up, but it’s been going on for years. Hell one of my favorite organizations (PrideFC) was notorious for their shady dealings back in the day, but they put on a hell of a show.

Petruzelli stated that he wasn’t paid to stand-up. If he took money and then acted a certain way, he’s guilty of fixing the fight. What he said (in his retraction statement) was that there was a knockout bonus if he managed to get one. Now, stoppage bonuses have always been legal (TUF still uses them in the prelim matches) but to specify what type of stoppage definitely impacts the way a fighter will choose to fight, and that’s illegal.

Dana’s angry and he’s right, but he’s still an asshole who underpays his fighters and cares more about ratings (Lesnar v Couture, keeping Junie Browning on TUF 8 after he cut another fighter in a drunken rage to name two recent examples) than he does about the fighters. Their safety is hardly relevant and their hard work to earn a title shot is completely shat upon when Lesnar gets a shot at Couture. And Dana claims that Kimbo’s a punk who’s overhyped? Baldie please.

I’ll take it a step further and say this video is nothing but propaganda. Dana is doing the same type of sketchy shit he is complaining to the FBI about. To use his football analogy, what Dana is doing (with Lesnar) is like if the NFL brought a bottom ranked team up to replace one of the teams in the superbowl… just because they are the NFL and they can do that and they think they’d get more advertising dollars with the bottom ranked team playing. Lesnar has done nothing in mma to deserve his title fight. What Dana did wasn’t illegal (at least not the Lesnar situation), but it is fucking wrong.

Why? Because, it is a wrong against the fighter who actually *deserves* that title shot and is getting the shaft because Dana just wants Lesnar-generated dollars. That, my friends, is called putting the sport *second* behind your own greed.

When you start realizing shit like that, it is easy to see that it is entirely possible Dana’s puts the sport second in other ways as well. I don’t find it hard to imagine judges in the Rampage/Griffin fight were bought (especially in regards to round 1, where everyone in the world agrees Rampage won because it is clear as day… except to the judges… how odd… right… yeah… right).

First of all Seth was a last minute replacement, I mean like really last freaking minute. I only learned about it during the show. What betting is he talking about? There was no betting on this fight. If it was common, I would say yeh, u got a point.
Second of all they did not need to pay Seth for not going to the ground because he never would have done it in the first place. He is a stand up fighter. All he can do on the ground is pull guard and eat shots for 15 minutes. He has a decent stand up, but he never tries to take people down. I saw many of his fights and he has a karate backgrounds. He faught Dan Savern, Matt Hammel, was on TUF. His game is striking only.

I also want to say that the only reason why people hate on Elite EX is Kimbo. They are trying to promote him hard and the trouble follows. There are also fighters not making waight and bad refs( but it’s in the UFC as well). Besides that ELITE EX puts on good free legit MMA fights that i enjoy watching.
People may bitch as much as they want about how they destroy MMA, I suggest you STFU. I watch UFC ppvs as well, but i don’t mind free decent MMA events once in a while. And trust me they aren’t fixing other fights. Ninja’s fight during the last event was good, it wasn’t fixed. Just ignore the Kimbo bullshit and you will get more satisfaction from all the mma events.

Well he may be right, because that interview with Shaw after the fights made him look like a deranged cokehead. At the same time, for all of White’s talk about how much he loves the sport of MMA and the athletes, he surely doesn’t pay any of his fighters 500,000 on any kind of consistent basis even though the UFC could easily do so with the amount of revenue they pull in. I believe we need competition in MMA, because if the UFC is the only game in town they’ll continue to throw fighters away and put together weak cards. I just doubt it’s going to be an organization that puts the majority of its stake into an aging brawler who hasn’t had near the amount of practice needed to be an average MMA fighter, let alone an “elite” one that will give any competition to UFC.

By they you mean the doctors who are working for the authletic comission. Aren’t these the same guys who stopped Diaz vs Noons fight due to cuts on Diaz’s face? In case you didn’t know, Diaz was their big super star and the champ. That wouldn’t make sense for Elite Ex to pay the doctors to stop fights. Just another bullshit conspiracy theory. Use common sence, man. The authletic commision is not taking bribes from promoters to end fights. They make bad decisions, but these are their decisions based on a set of rules.
You should probably watch that Carano fight again. Gina beat Kaitlin pretty bad in the 1st round. Her faice was a mess. Why would they stop the fight? To protect Gina from whooping ass for another 2 rounds? Keitlin could barely get up after the 1st round and she did not complain at all when the fight was stopped. No one did.
Btw, yes Elite EX does favour Gina by letting her not make waight and giving her easy fights. However, she is a good fighter and deserves the credit.

I agree with Dana, but he needs to lay off Kimbo. Kimbo has been respectful to the UFC, and has blown off all of Dana’s insults. He also know’s he’s not a top tier fighter. I would like to see Kimbo fight more as an undercard. It’s MMA baby, anything can happen, one punch by Kimbo could flatten a top tier heavyweight, but 9 out of 10 times, he would get disolved in the first round.

Lesnar should not be compared to Kimbo. It’s only a formality that he’s not in the Top 10 List for Heavyweights. We all saw what he was doing to Mir before that heel lock. He also whiped the floor with Herring, who’s fought the best. I think Barnett would be a good fight for Lesnar. He’s just too big and strong for Couture(prove me wrong Randy).

if someone here still thinks that dana puts the credibility of mma ahead of his bank account, can they tell me of another professional sport in which the champion is made to fight someone who is 1-1?

Ares what you failed to mention was that Nog was already signed to be on this season’s TUF and signed a contract to fight Frank Mir. If Couture had agreed to return to the UFC before that then that fight would have taken place.
