He made sense of the Griffin explanation. His arguement for Rashad comment became weaker. With Miguel he never even spoke to him. He said “I didn’t speak to him, but I heard he said it was just a joke”. Dana White is just trying to explain his way out of an unfair decision. Griffin and Rashad make money, Miguel doesn’t…period.

” Im going to handle this the way I want to”

And that somes up Dana White a man who thinks he has all the answers. Miguel Torres should come back.

YOU CAN”T FIX STUPID he says. ummm yes you can. you say HEY THAT WAS STUPID, DON’T DO IT AGAIN OR YOUR OUT OF HERE. I love Dana White, watch all his blogs thanks to Bruno, but I think this is a STUPID call, and have the decency to talk to him one on one and see exactly whats going on. Miguel was a former champion, and now he’s being treated like a bum because he has a different sense of humor….I just saw on MMATKO Miguel drinking with his buddies, he did sound a bit dumb with his one comment he made, but he was drinking! Who knows dana…maybe he was drunk again, but since you don’t want to talk to the fighter himself, you don’t know…

Wow, if Miguel was a UFC star…absolutely no way Dana fires him. Miguel Torres suspended ok, but released is asinine.

Then you don’t even call the guy personally before you have him released?

stu11 Says, in 12-9-2011 at 10:48:02 from

I wish he would have asked if Bones Jones would have tweeted that would he be fired?

southiejimmy Says, in 12-9-2011 at 10:58:48 from

If dana had read some scripted, politically correct ,generic response, then all of you would be calling him a douch for that. Show me another corporate president/ceo who would come on and give a interview like that. Anyone else in his position would have said something along these lines. “we here at zuffa are sympathetic to all victims of r***. In no way do we wish to condone or encourage the type of comments made by mr torres, and in no way do the comments made by mr torres represent the opinions of the zuffa corp. In light of our policies, we have terminated mr torres, and we have donated $50,000 dollars to the national r*** awareness program.”.
If dana had responded like that, you all would have broke his balls about how hes just spewing corporate and legal bullshit, and how he should be a man and handle each case individually, and not just spew corporate political correctness, which is exactly what he did, but people still critisize him. No matter how dana acts, or what he does, people will critisize him.

As much as Torres comes off as a total tool to me because of his obscene tweets ive read oh and his mullet, Dana should have atleast contacted him before firing him. He said about Forrest he didn’t see how he would get himself out of it but he did. Also a point was made before that the quote is from “Always Sunny” a show on FX! so…yeah, a little too harsh if you ask me.

Muay Thai #1 Says, in 12-9-2011 at 12:09:13 from

What a liar. Dana would not fire Rashad or Griffin, he is full of crap. I think he is starting to lose it. His actions are not making sense lately. The Mayhem comments, this Torres ordeal, his terrible commentary at UFC on FOX. He needs to go, there was a time when the UFC needed him. Now that they are on network TV, his usefullness is growing smaller. The Fertitas need to consider getting a new face of the UFC.

kung fu k9 Says, in 12-9-2011 at 12:26:49 from

I think dana should/needs to also conduct himself in a better professional manner & I think fighters should be held to a higher standard. If mma wants mainstream respect they have to act accordingly. That is with not letting fighters spew vulgar crap like an uneducated ghetto turd.

not to mention he has a gym & trains kids? which many kids will most likely read & follow his twitter? great example you lead teacher torres…

I read torres twitter and there was a bunch of garbage that was totally non professional to say the least. theres a code of conduct all martial artists should have, that is one of the basics and not any different then say the military.

there were once real values installed in the arts that went hand in hand with the training. I think there should be more disciplinary action up with fighters that don’t follow appropriate conduct.

Dana white is who he is and that will not change. He is just keeping it real, he can tolerate and explain the others and with Torres he cannot. He runs the company and he can fire any of his employees when he sees fit. Fact is, if you work in the public eye don’t tweet and say stupid s*** publicly. Instead of defending Torres and degrading Dana we should be applauding his openness an honesty. Atleast he has the balls to stand up against the media and his employees unlike the nfl and nba who let their employees do stupid s*** with a slap on the wrist.

ace Says, in 12-9-2011 at 12:57:54 from

Dana should get fired. He is not ceo material on network tv may be cable. He looks and talk like a thug. He was totally awkward on fox commentating on the fight. Time for a more professional, educated, articulate without using the f word in every sentence ceo to represent the ufc.

what did you think the Fox buy-out was all about? …the mega rich loving the spirit of MMA? no silly sheep…MONEY! that’s it and nothing more, they saw how big MMA was getting.. not the UFC… MMA!.. was getting and they brought it..plain and simple.
now some of you want to bitch about the s**t you don’t like in the UFC? to late sheep freedom of speech or them giving two s**ts about your speech is OVER.
now shut up and enjoy your bloody show! you got what you wanted, all american Mr.WHITE running the whole of world MMA….and telling you his opinion every day on the fighters he can s**t on whenever his ready. LOL not all… but most of you make me laugh such slaves!

^^^^ Says, in 12-9-2011 at 13:04:21 from

I’m starting to lose a lot of respect for Dana. He didn’t even talk to Torres personally to get his opinion and he fired him, but he personally called up Forrest and Rashad. As if he was going to fire them even if they didn’t have a good explanation. It’s simple as this, Dana will do whatever the F*** he pleases. Babalu Sobral was released from the UFC for holding a choke for too long, but I can name 3-4 instances where someone went overboard that didn’t get punished. Caro Parisian was released because he took pain killers, but Chris Leben on his second offense only got fined and time off. You ain’t fooling no one with this. As much as I dislike Torres and the stupid stuff he says on his twitter, this was not justified. It wasn’t that bad and it was a quote from a FOX SHOW! We all know the reason why he was released. To be made an example of and because of his lackluster performances.

not anonymous Says, in 12-9-2011 at 13:40:46 from

Well it makes sense,a generalized joke about non-specified women getting in raper vans posted to an internet site is way worse than making a joke about a specific 10 year old boy(s) being r**** by a pillar of the community ,while doing charity work and televised as a promotion for the biggest MMA event on network television. ha ha just kidding, fire me.

sammy Says, in 12-9-2011 at 13:48:33 from

in all honesty its a set up making all these fighters tweet and then holding their comments against them . i wouldnt last two seconds.. i say the most twisted s***, somthing about wanting to say what ever is on your mind. so i think we should take every thing with a rock of salt…a risky game but a chalenge has been sent to atleast be more clever while covering certain topics, like finding a positve way to use r*** in tweets RT; “rapists if you are reading this tweet please get help, you are traumatizing woman, men, girls and boys, r*** a flesh lite instead” say joe rogan and get a 10% discout, peace bitches!

southiejimmy Says, in 12-9-2011 at 14:12:44 from

All you people talking about freedom of speech and wrongfull termination need to learn a thing or two about how things work in the private sector of the working world. In most cases, an employer can fire you for any reason, at any time, without notice, so long as its not race, religion, ethnicity, or something along those lines. Freedom of speech does not appy. If you owned company x, and i worked for you, and i went on twitter and said company x sucks, and the owners wife is a slut, do you think i cannot be fired for that. If you do your wrong. Its private enterprise..hire and fire at will.
The only way wrongfull termination comes into play is if there is specific language in your individual contract with the company, or a bargaining unit (union) contract, that states you cant be fired for the act, or that the employer needs to use progressive discipline ( i.e.,verbal warning, then written warning, then suspention, etc ). I personally do not believe that he deserved to be fired, but as a private sector employer, they are within thier right to do so. Many of you on here probably arent even old enough to work, and so its understandable that you wouldnt know these things.

OVERDRAMATIC Says, in 12-9-2011 at 14:24:51 from

Dana White is shooting from the hip here. He says in this interview that people make mistakes and are over sensitive, yet he’ll fire someone who even he says is a “good guy and has never had a problem in this sport” over a “joke” not his joke btw, but a quote from a TV show called Its Always Funny in Philadelphia. Dana, you say everyone says dumb stuff, but at least most can admit that to themselves, and you cant. You say some of the dumbest s*** such as this case. Get over yourself. Lame.

Grape Soda Says, in 12-9-2011 at 14:31:37 from

Perhaps Miguel was asking too much in his contract and this was an excuse to cut him.
It’s all about money to Dana the gangster.

DKgonzo86 Says, in 12-9-2011 at 15:31:04 from

The fact is that the joke is not about r***. It’s about r*** VANS… which are, in their own right, hilarious and fare game for jokes… so is everything else as far as I’m concerned but whatever…

Jim Says, in 12-9-2011 at 16:21:27 from

Interesting how it happens on the Chicago card (Miguel is from Gary Indiana, which is technically Chicago). Maybe Miguel refused a fight before this happened.

Sure a joke about r*** is a sensitive matter. On one hand Dana seems to be keeping the UFC image clean. On the other Dana’s pretty emotional and might be mad at Miguel’s performance, tweet, not taking a fight. But “bottom line” how does he own fighters outside of a UFC event. I think fighters deserve a life outside of Dana White and Zuffa.

Jim Says, in 12-9-2011 at 16:24:00 from

Oh, and Dana’s mom doesn’t even love him. So I think he’s a horrible example for what is right and wrong lol.

First of all @Rockstarzee…Your comment on Michael Bisping is stupid and isn’t at all comparable with this situation so please leave this for the adults to discuss.
Miguel Torres made a JOKE! And apparently if Dana White doesn’t like your sense of humour your out of the company. Famous, well know, respected and POPULAR comedians make jokes about all sorts of taboo subjects and people love them for it. Their not being malicious or callous, their just making a JOKE. Nobody should lose their job over a f’n JOKE. What is this, the 19th century Soviet U.S.S.R? or The U.S.A, which is suppost to be one of the most open minded countries in the world? It’s a JOKE!

Vinvincible Says, in 12-10-2011 at 10:57:13 from

So basically if Dana does not like your opinions or humour, you get cut.

PitfighterZ Says, in 12-10-2011 at 14:13:09 from

@alwaysright – the worst part is that it was a joke which was taken from a show on FX. It wasn’t even his own joke. Imagine if anyone here got fired for repeating a joke you hear on TV…
His Doucheness has the right to fire anyone without cause according to the standard UFC contract, but at least be honest about the actual reason. Many UFC fighters have said things that are much more offensive and the Douche of White laughed.
The Douche is in his right, but he didn’t have to come up with this bull sh*t to justify it. Douchy Dana simply wanted an excuse to cut Torres because his salary is too high for his latest performances and for the money he brings in.
Cutting Torres for a “just cause,” allows them to renegotiate the contract and offer a much sweeter deal to the UFC.
