Dana White Bashes Bad Judging And Reffing In MMA Fighting.
well get some better f***** judges or get some judges that have actually had a fight in the cage (bas rutten)
To start, fire Cecil Peoples
Fans who have no understanding of the sport is also a problem. Some people seems to think that you can chase a guy around, miss them with almost every shot, get punched up and kicked the whole time and then still win the fight after scoring almost no points…
The UFC doesnt hire or fire judges, they are assigned by the respective state’s athletic commission. Thats why Dana cant overturn decisions if he wanted to etc.
- Exactly Op…The FIGHT has now evolved into a SPORT making points and technique/skill the relevant factor opposed to physically beating an opponent.
Fans need to bare this in mind, if they cannot, then they wil be constantly complaining and demote themselves to uneducated.
Dana’s just pointing the finger because it’s easier to point than own up to it…
Dana, stop blaming them, you’re part to blame as well. Maybe if you scratch their balls once in awhile we’ll see some better judging..
Maybe it’s time that we – and by we, I mean state athletic commissions – need to officially reassess the scoring criteria so that we have something to educate our judges ad refs on the basis of. Refs and judges are a problem, sure, but some of the confusion that looks like bad judging is actually vague expectations. …But we should fire Steve Mazzagatti anyway.
Bring back Pride rules. I guarantee it will create shorter fights and take decisions out of the judges hands. Hell out of the s*** hole refs hands too.
This lame s*** with keeping one hand down as a defense against the cage? Currently it prevents strikes to the head. And why? Because of the supposed downed opponent? F*** that — I want soccer kicks and knees to the head back.
@Op: yep.
I still advocate that we simply get rid of the need for judges. Of course it’s more of a hypothetical discussion, as it will never happen.
Judges will always have biases and different backgrounds even if they were trained. Also, because there are judges, you have “round winner” fighters, which can be massively boring when referees can’t fine them for stalling the fight.
So, if we just allow fighters to do what they do best and fight, we don’t need judges. In my view, just give the fighters a 15-minute round. The fight only stops by KO, TKO (ref. calls it), submission, tap out, or towel from the corner.
If the 15 minutes runs out, give them a 10-minute round. If needed, add 5 minutes round until one of the fighters can’t continue (tko if called by the ref. or corner tap out if they throw the towel).
No judges, no b.s. And to prevent any stalling, yellow cards worth 10% of the purse for first offense, 50% for second, and disqualification on the third.
There will never be a doubt about who won, no draws, no judges who can’t understand what’s going on, no whining fans who can’t grasp the basic concepts of MMA, and, most important of all, NO CECIL PEEEEEEEEOOOOOOPPPPPLLLLLEEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!!
@ op of faith, i couldnt agree more. Why do people think just because diaz was moving foreward, he was winning.
Have you ever been in a fight? It takes two people to fight, not one guy trying to run away fro 25 minutes. It’s like the 1-3-1 defense in hockey, where the defense FORCES you to make a mistake, it’s the same thing with this running. You FORCE your opponent to stock you down, move forward, and the faster the running the more running he has to do, which makes him vulnerable. It is a shitty fighting style, and almost every single one of the Jackson fighters do it. They are taking advantage of the rules, as shitty as they be. I agree, Pride rules would be optimal. All the good FIGHTERS agree and have spoken out against these rules, and all the FAKERS say they have no problem with it, I wonder why? The UFC is becoming BS fast.
In situations like this, no one should have won, personally I would have scored it a draw and maid them re-fight. Condit looked more busy, be he didn’t do any damage, he threw 68 leg kicks (baby leg kicks), if they were real leg kicks Diaz would have been crawling. I don’t blame condit, I blame Jackson trying to win fights by a points match, what is this the Olympics?
@Savage Says – thankyou!! how can people not know this?
You can’t have Pride rules in the West. Too many uptight politicians and bible thumpers and hypocrites.
In Japan it’s different. They are very quiet and humble and respectful but they don’t mind if someone gets face stomped in a ring if the rules allow it. Its an honor and respect thing.
Also I guarantee this is basically a rant on the Diaz/Condit fight/judging. He stood a greater chance of making more money on a Diaz/GSP fight and everyone knows that.
So they basically cost him a few million those judges lol
Thank you Dana White! I’m sure he watched Condit vs Diaz again at home and saw that Diaz won. I’m a HUGE Condit fan, more so than any of the fake mma/wanna be Condit fans out here still lying to themselves about ufc 143. Condit did NOT look good out there, and you would know this if youve actually seen his previous fights in WEC, UFC, and even before that. He’s called the “natural born killer” for a reason. Everyone says Condit took Diaz out of his game… uh no, obviously Diaz took Condit out of his game because ive never seen someone turn their back so much and run in a fight, EVER… not even in the Kimbo vs Houston Alexander fight, and Dana released Houston for avoiding the fight and circling the cage. At least Joe Rogan is honest with himself and agreed and explained why he agreed that Diaz won 1,2, and 5. Nobody on any thread give factual reasons why Condit won. Only mainstream media rhetoric. Even former and current Champions agreed that Diaz won the fight, but lost the decision. Bottom line, get some real judges in there who know MMA and who understand fights. Props to Condit for the W, but not for the fight. And i say that with no hate, just love because if he keeps fighting the way he did, he will lose respect, lose a real fan base, and eventually lose to points leaving it to the judges. Dont deceive the public and say one thing and then do another. Lies will only hurt yourself in the end. I know i know, Diaz got caught with the Green, but s*** he was just giving Condit a chance by slowing himself down.
GoConditGo…. said… “Everyone says Condit took Diaz out of his game… uh no, obviously Diaz took Condit out of his game because ive never seen someone turn their back so much and run in a fight, EVER…”
Reps ++++
That is a great quote.
I have never seen Condit run like that. I blame Greg Jackson. That was a douche-bag performance.
hey dana u stupid F*** this is why u dont want the government involved in private business… anyways i thought u said dont F*** with the government?? fkin retard
Well it’s his god damned event
I really think they should come up with some new point deduction and disqualification rules for those who run the whole fight instead of actually fighting. first warning them then point deduction then if the running away continues disqualification.
nobody wants to see some bitch runaway the whole fight and win, it will encourage other fighters negatively to follow same strategy. everyone likes good technique but nobody wants to see running because running away is not a technique!
@GoConditGO
exactly I liked Condit’s style of fights a lot before but in the Diaze fight it was really disappointing.
I can’t understand why many people are confusing running away with “technique” People that is Not a technique!!! I train myself and believe me running away is not a hard technique and if any of you wanna see little sneak kicks and punches and running away that’s a sad direction the sport is going to.
@mscash Fine bring back the pride rules, but also the pride pay. If the fighters are going to take more damage from the ‘brawler’ matches then they need to be compensated accordingly.
Dana is just bitching because he REALLY wants gsp vs diaz. If diaz won the same way , dana wouldn’t have said a thing. He’d probably actually defend it by saying it was a smart fight.
It reminds me of mean jean and jesse the body comentating one wreastling and how when the bad guy did something jesse would say it was smart, and if a good guy did the same thing, he’d say he was cheating.
Maybe we should just get rid of judges and get everyone to txt the winner in with thier phones. Then the most popular guy will always win in the end.
Ironically Jon Jones is a bad example of bad judging because he performed an illegal 90 degree elbow many times in a row which put the opponent out. Mind you Diaz vs. Condit is a perfect example of bad judging.
The UFC brings there own Refs to every fight. Notice in every different state, you see the same Refs. Judging is different; However, don’t complain about the Refs when they are basically UFC Refs. They force the local Commissions to use there Refs.
The Government can’t do anything right, let alone get good judges and refs. The UFC should have the right to hire third party refs/judges, they are the ones with the money, the knowledge and know how. Why let the state commission do anything other than test for drugs? Gov’t work = lazy s*** work.
@Danby — I’m all for paying the fighters more for the soccer kicks, knees to the head, foot stomping faces. I like the high octane pace and the ability to end a fight quickly if an opponent lays on the back. Nothing against the GnP game but it’s mainly for the reason that fighters who are technically out can continue to take shots clear their head and fight back. Edgar, Mir, Shields are just a few who have used this ability.
Screw that s***. Let the guy winning and beating the other guys ass finish quick with a couple soccer kicks. Let soccer kicks back in the game and watch these shitty judges and shitty refs get taken out of it.
Just think what Nog could have done to Mir — Mir was face planted — Nog steps back and soccer kicks Mir right in the side of his head.
Hendo had Shields out of it and as usual Shields was able to hold on and grind out a five round win. Had kicks been allowed — I see a different reality.
There was never anything better than seeing Shogun Rua or the Ax murderer soccer kicking another fighter into defeat in the corner of a Pride ring.
If MMA and the UFC want to be a part of reality in the years to come, then create a professional referee system similar to that of the MLB, NFL, Boxing, … it’s that or take refs out of the fight game all together.
Refs will still be human, and subject to error, but at least the fighters will have the most comprehensible ref in the ring with them.
It wouldn’t hurt the UFC to create a Farm league system for refs and fighters.

I totally agree with you there. This should’ve been a draw at least. I usually see matches like this go to the belt holder, because you have to really show that you beat the champ to get the belt. Never leave it up to the judges…..
Never heard and read so much whinning and stupid comments on fight decisions.
Dana White only has a high school education who is he to speak on other professionals and their qualifications. He is lucky he went to the same high school as the Zuffa owners or else he’d be washing our cars.
@John Boss
Nick Diaz fans whine so much because for years tehy were talking about how Nick is better then everybody blah blah blah.He got exposed,took the lost like a sore loser and quit MMA.they want to do anything so that the decision gets changed and their immature baby hero Diaz wants to come back to MMA.
@GoConditGo
I can give you the only reason we need to say Condit won.He hit Nick Diaz more then Nick hit him and he missed less shots then Nick missed.Condit was the better fighter period.But you sore losers find arguments to think Nick won like:”Nick was agressive”.Look at what being agressive got him.He got beat up.Anybody who doesnt think Condit won simply have no clue of waht are martial arts.You just want guys brawling then watch street fights on Youtube.the base of martial arts is hitting without getting hit.Thats what Condit did thats why he won.
I’ve watched the diaz/condit fight 3 times now, in an effort to see other people’s opinion. But Condit easily won nearly every round in my eyes.
A few flurries here ‘n there for diaz, but many of the rounds were like 16 to 4 for condit in terms of damage and accuracy.
Dana white said Condit won the fight vs Diaz after the 143 event… this interview is unrelated to Saturday night… it’s just the media adding footage of the fight while Dana’s talking to make it appear like he is. Condit fought a smart fight and out struck Diaz…. remember those two leg kicks to the side of Diaz’s head after combos? Diaz was out struck and out classed. Besides, Diaz is done… he just tested positive for a banned substance after 143 anyhow… the guy is a complete loser.
mascash – soccer kicks aren’t really a display of skill or technique. Anyone can do a soccer kick to a downed opponent. Its kinda like easy prey/overkill but whatever. Plus its not going to help win over crooked and uptight politicians when you are trying to lobby for the sport to be legal in said state
Watch the Rua vs Machida 2 fight. Now those are countable kicks!
I personally gave this Diaz 3 rounds and Condit 2 maybe even a DRAW. But who the hell likes these Edgar/Condit style of running around in circles?? Condit in my opinion never had any intentions of inflicting any real damage on Diaz and had more of a “Scoring” game plan in mind. I felt like the ref should’ve had flags in there to indicate the scoring shots. Lame
That GSP/Condit fight’s going to either be GSP dry humping Condit for 25 mins or Condit getting his cardio in doing laps around the ring for 25 mins. Pass
imagine if diaz did that same strategy how much gayer this fight would have been, so props to diaz for showin up to fight at least.. i’d rather pay to see a diaz fight any day vs a running match with condit. do you people honestly pay to watch this crap??? of course not its a f****** fight!!!! we all want to see that brutal ko or crazy sub.
anybody that’s ever been in a fight knows, not only are the close ones controversial, but you have one group of people saying one thing and another saying another, but days, weeks, months and sometimes even years later….well educated fighters/fight analysts will change their opinion based on how their views of the sport have changed. Which is perfectly OK. We should all strive to grow mentally. That being said. We’ve been yelling for years that Greg Jackson products shouldn’t be able to develop a cheap ass game plan (which almost always consists of avoidance) and pull out a win. But here’s what I propose. Let’s take a little bit of power away from the commission. I’d like to see a system put in place, where at the end of the fight, much like a rap battle you might not know the winner right away. The company should work to take votes from fans for at least %20 of the decision. The company itself for the sake of its future should have %10 and no more in the decision, the rest should be a new breed of judges that come not from the athletic commission but from an independent company that is run %50 by the athletic commission and %50 by the company (UFC) that hires only well educated and experienced guys that have either fought themselves or are close enough to the sport to demonstrate a working and evolving knowledge of all areas. From that point the only active role the commission should play in live events IMO would be to ensure competent cut men and doctors are on site and oversee testing and compliance.
@mesonto – That elbow was by no means what put Hamill. Hamill already had a broken nose and a dislocated shoulder. Ref should have stopped the fight sooner. I agree that there are btter examples out there as Mazagatti is a terrible ref; a better example would have been Anthony Johnson getting that stupid TKO via eye poke loss to Kevin Burns. That was some shitty reffing.
but for some reason I can’t help but think I just pretty much described what is already happening
@mesonto – I agree with you. Bones was a good ref. disqualification but Diaz vs. Condit was bad judging.
Condit clear winner,sorry cry babies it’s over, and yeah condit won! and he would win again if they fought.
@failsonnen, it doesn’t take any skill to face plant and get hit until you regain enough sense to move. That’s just a natural born instinct. I guess if you are a fighter it is — any… The idea is to end the match quickly. That’s the point I was trying to make.
As for these politicians that want to fight against legalizing MMA in the states, I say piss on the idiots. The U.S. economy is in the shitter enough as it is — f****** politicians that want to stop a billion dollar company from coming to their state possibly multiple times a year should be viewed as dumb f**** and voted out of office.
There are multiple locations around the world that could routinely pack soccer stadiums to watch an MMA fight. Take the fights out of the states and watch the politicians beg for the fights to come back. The bottom line is $ and all politicians want $
