I love Dan Severn. He was an integral part of the sport…

BUT..

I don’t like the interviews .. how he interprets his first bout w/ royce. I like him very much.. just not how he discusses royce..

Dan seems to make excuses. “it was a conscience thing” “he was holding back” “he thought helio was sick for letting him beat up royce” but you lost dan.. The ref raised royces hand that night. He knew the better technique that night

WELL HERES THE THING DAN.. YOU LOST. YOU DON’T HAVE TO ACCEPT IT..BUT.. you did lose. if you would have tried to strike royce more aggressively you would have had a triangle or armbar on your ass sooner.

I still like dan. He is a competitor n warriar..
I think dan would probably beat royce today. who knows. But it would be refreshing if he could just say.. in our first bout I didn’t know what a triangle choke was… and that technique was about to pop my head off.. so I indeed tapped. That would be refreshing..LOL

Good old vale-tudo times…
Always bring a smile to my face when I see an all time great literally using the fishnet and some elbows to smash the other guy.
And the people criticizing, go play with your legos. This wasn’t MMA as you know today. There was no money into it; not advanced production values, no WWE b.s., and yes, many of the techniques were rudimentary, but these guys were warriors like you rarely see nowadays. They could fight for hours and face many fighters in the same night.
So, learn to appreciate it for what it was, and not for it is today. It’s like calling Medieval knights lame because they didn’t carry a gun. It makes no sense.

@straightAhead Royce would lose to him today? Matt hughes beat the s*** out of royce. Forget about dan severn. Any mma fighter today would beat him. These old school guys can’t compete with the new guys.

So god damn boring theres always clinching and bs with dan severn when will this guy learn how to fight. Hes had almost 100 professional fights. Referee should break them apart.

this fight is from July 6, 1997, the International Vale Tudo Championship 1: Real Fight Tournament. Dan Severn was 16–3–1 at the time.
