I have to agree with the referee even though the stoppage seemed a bit early. It is better to stop the fight too early than too late. The referee is a professional (I assume!), he sees better and he hears better.

Maybe the stoppage was partly due to Thompson’s ear. I don’t know how severe thing it is to get constant blows to a cauliflower ear full of blood but possibly it could have caused irreversible damage to the ear if the fight would have continued. Safety first.

he did very well, period.
it was mma’s chance to shine in front of a national audience. thompson was rocked.
THE BLAME lies on cbs who booked a BS main event with a street thug and a guy who had been knocked out by butterbean in the past. let’s not forget that they also let thompson in the ring with an ear ready to explode with taping it, or anything else. they couldn’t wait for it to pop and begross for ****ing ratings!
they did a huge disservice to the sport that us fans want to continue to grow.
PLEASE CBS, let mma impress america with it’s top athletes competing. spare us the freak show…

I actually agree with most of what he said. Thompson could have stopped the fight on the ground if he put more power in those elbows, they were both just too gassed. At the end of the fight, Thompson was pretty much knocked out on his feet…which is surprising considering how gassed Kimbo was..

I think he explained himself well. I agreed with the stoppage and the explanation fits what I saw. His eyes DID roll back. He WAS stumbling, and one or two more blows could’ve done some serious damage.

So now you have to be delivering massive damage to a guy who can’t even fight back? What about Kimbo? This shows Geragliotta’s bias…to say that Thompson wasn’t delivering when he had full control of an opponent that couldn’t deliver a single punch because his arm was pinned. And he is saying that Thompson wasn’t delivering?

Then he goes on to say that he stopped the fight because Thompson was rocked? Then Kimbo falls the ground and lies there for over a minute like HE is the one who was KO’d.

Sorry Geragliotta, you messed up and showed you were on the payroll.

Here on, any bad call should be considered playing by “Geragliotta rules”.

Honestly, I don’t understand the Miragliotta “bias” crap. What bias? That he wanted the black man to win? Thompson was gassed, taking a beating, his eyes were rolling back, and he was stumbling across the Octagon. Had he let it go a few seconds longer, Thompson would’ve been knocked out cold and everyone on this forum would be complaining about how Miragliotta didn’t step in soon enough.

Some of you guys need to get real. You see it in boxing all the time, there IS such a thing as being out on your feet. Thompson’s head was wobbling like a damn bobble head and his hands were down. I agree with his point of having a better vantage point than others, but The Vera fight proved that it’s all subjective. Why not give Vera the same opportunity he gave Kimbo to get out of the round and start fresh?

Because Kimbo is the face of EliteXC and Vera is not the face of the UFC. If had stopped the Kimbo fight. I could bet with certainty that Gary Shaw would never let him ref another Elite gig EVER!

Thompson was not out on his feet, Train. He had been hit much harder than that and was fine. The fight was stopped by a douche ref because EliteXC couldn’t stand to see their “star” fighter lose. Which, he would have. This ref should never be allowed to ref a fight again.

This guy sucks! I thought he was average until the Kimbo fight. The one that topped it off for me was Werdum vs Vera. Yeah Vera was mounted but protected himself well, that was all he could do at that point. Dan should have let it go longer as Vera was never hurt or close to being hurt, he was just mounted. In some cases like this if you fight back, you will get hit which is why Vera elected to cover and he did it well.

The only Ref who calls fights more prematurely would be Herb Dean who is actually winning the poll for best referee off to the right. Are you kidding me!!!

For all of you Kimbo fans, we all knew that he did not have a ground game and he showed the world against Thompson. I don’t think even the great Bas Ruetten can get this guy up to speed. Give him a real opponent and it is game over. Thompson has zero ground game and took Kimbo down with ease with the help of his weight advantage. Had Thompson had any skills on the ground, he would have submitted Kimbo in the first round. I must give Thompson credit as his chin is usually suspect but not in the Kimbo fight. Kimbo obviously has no gas tank and it showed badly in the second. Once he fights a reputable opponent he is toast. In a year we won’t even be talking about Kimbo.

that was fuckin ridiculous!! that was one of the worst stoppages ive ever seen. you gotta feel sorry for thompson, he got a terrible stoppage against butterbean when he slipped now he gets an even worse stoppage against Kimbo.
why the fuck wasn’t it stopped in the second, kimbo took 40 or 50 clean punches and elbows to the head without blocking one or fighting back. the ref is a prick, he should never referee again.
he was obviously told to favour kimbo cos he will sell tickets.
this proved once and for all kimbo has no ground game, i thought everyone was being a bit harsh on him, now i see why, he really is a poor fighter, hope he loses bad next time and the kimbo bandwagons gets destroyed

every time thompson got rocked in that fight he managed to take kimbo down and avoid further damage, he would hav done the same again, kimbo didnt finish him the ref did.
shame thompson didnt get a good connection when he swung for the ref after he stopped it. he needs knocking the fuck out after that decision

Regardless if Kimbo was being hit very hard or kind of hard, he could not defend himself when Thompson had him in the reverse cricifix against the cage. Same thing happened to B.J Penn VS Hughes.
