best bjj in the mw div
this was an awesome fight, great way to start the ppv.
the first round was crazy, everyone in the bar was going nuts when macdonald escaped the triangle and started choking maia w the guillotine. too bad macdonald couldnt pull it out but props to him and even more to maia, that guy deserves all the credit he gets for his ground game
The Shmucklete loses again. Happy to see Mcdonald get beat up.
Jason Mcdonald is still money and he doesn’t even know it!!!
exciting fight, pretty much went as expected…McDonald is better than a gatekeeper, just not at able to beat the elite in his weight class…the only person that could just walk through McDonald is Anderson Silva…anyone else it will be a war…great fight
I agree with the man!
I can’t stand MacDonald.
It’s partly because he’s obnoxious, overrated and one of the UFC’s poster-boys.
Maia has great ground game for sure but Mcdonald gets no credit in the UFC. He beat Leban and Herman and still those 2 are put on a pedestal (especially Leban) and Mcdonald is used as a stepping stone. He should go to Elite XC or Affliction, he could beat a lot of good fighters and probably make a lot more money.
i don’t know what you guys saw in this fight. it was horrible. the quality of this fight was that of the ultimate fighter first fights.
Great fight and loved the ground game chess match between these guys, I like Jason but Maia definitely impressed me in this fight.
Great fight no doubt…
I was happy that the crowd was actually into it. Maybe Americans are finally starting to enjoy the ground game?
did it seem like rogan was bias in the favor of mcdonald?? maia was controling him most of the fight but rogan kept talking up macdonald. figured joe would want to suck maia off cause of his great jits
I always question McDonald’s strategy. Why is he trying to grapple with a superior grappler? He always talks about his standup and then never uses it. Wouldn’t it have been a wiser strategy to try to stand with Maia?
Best BJJ? Maia struggled until past midway into the 3rd round to finally get a finishing choke hold on someone who barely has any JJ. If MacDonald had better conditioning and a bit more ground training, it would have been a different fight.
Nonetheless, it was a war and a good one.
Dogpitt…How is MacDonald over-rated? He just went up against a top BJJ fighter and held on (mostly on the ground) until past half-way into round 3. Yeah, his ground game isn’t that good, but he’s still a good fighter.
Nothing against Maia, but if he’s that good in BJJ, shouldn’t the fight have ended much earlier?
Arthur, isn’t Macdonald a BJJ blackbelt in canada??? that’s what i always thought
