Every time I see Rampage in an interview I think, man, this guy is done. Not that he can’t still beat a lot of guys at 205, but that I don’t see him beating the very top guys anymore. And then I thought, why is that? And it comes down to his attitude. Here’s what I think: the new wave of the UFC are fighters who grew up as serious athletes, namely wrestlers. They have the mental game from years of high-level organized competition. You can’t be just an amazingly talented thug and make it in MMA anymore. You have to have real heart and a grounded intelligence. Your work ethic has to be unwavering. I don’t see those qualities in Rampage or Nick Diaz. Can they beat the gate-keepers? Yeah. But I don’t see either one ever being champion. Log in to Reply Beast w/ 8 Limbs September 21, 2011 I think Jones should get off that “bigger man” who does his talking in the cage attitude. He wants to be the good guy like GSP, but can’t wuite pull it off. He can’t help but take shots at Rampage’s mental state, and fighting style, which is completely ok, but come on. Log in to Reply Beast w/ 8 Limbs September 21, 2011 That said, Jones by decision. Log in to Reply nuno September 21, 2011 hope rampage wins this one Log in to Reply Shredded Coconut September 21, 2011 @Hond2dciv really Nick Diaz not an athlete? No work ethic? As a triathlete myself, thats not something you can just decide to do any weekend you feel like. It takes so much effort and training. Your statement is on with Rampage but not Nick Diaz. In fact because he does triathlons in my eyes makes him even more of an athlete than other competitors in MMA. Log in to Reply cms September 21, 2011 get my shake fool! Log in to Reply straightAhead September 21, 2011 @hond2dciv…. uhh, Rampage’s 1st sport was wrestling. Thats what got him into MMA. You must be a new MMA fan. Welcome to the party… you have a lot of catching up to do. Log in to Reply SanClemente September 21, 2011 Well said, hond2dciv! You know the game well. I’m going to start a organization for all the fighters like: Rampage, Diaz, Penn, Belfort, etc… to win fights only by knockouts or by fighters that inflect the most damage on their opponent during a fight. Hughes is a little old, but his ground game will gave Kos a run for his money. Rampage has to connect early or Jones will wear him down with his reach. Log in to Reply AFan September 21, 2011 Guys let’s not be trolls here. Hond2dciv I’m sure is referring to the fact that Rampage and Diaz have kinda been known for a bad boy facade, and don’t have the mental drive to get up for every fight. Now I don’t personally agree with that statement, don’t be silly have have to bash other people. On a sidenote, I want Rampage to win, and if he lands a huge shot he’s got a hell of a chance. But, Jon Jones is very fast, and highly aggressive, and really uses that reach he’s got. I do believe this fight might play out on the feet, sure Evans got Rampage down, but he really had to fight for those takedowns! Everyone know what Rampage brings to this fight, good boxing power, and sheer mental grit. But, if you watch Jones fights (And by the way, I’m no fan of Jones by any means I think he’s a cocky as$h0le) he hasn’t looked like he was in danger in part facet of any fight. Never was he not winning at any point. Smart money is on Jones, but come fight night I’ll be rooting for Rampage. Your statement is on with Rampage but not Nick Diaz. In fact because he does triathlons in my eyes makes him even more of an athlete than other competitors in MMA. Yeah, you’re both douchebags. Nick Diaz is a triathlete and Rampage used to wrestle. Just because they have bad boy attitudes or act like “thugs” doesn’t mean they can’t go out there and whoop some ass. Not everyone has to act like a professional, I think they bring some color to the sport. Log in to Reply marvelous mad madam mim September 21, 2011 hughes wins via submission Log in to Reply Freedomfit September 21, 2011 Shredded Coconut One of the reasons Diaz fights so limp(no power) is that he does that shit. He is not an athlete, never has been, and basically anyone who does that kind of training while trying to be a professional fighter is a complete dumbass. (but Nick has already proved that he’s a total lame, many times) It is far from the right kind of training, breaks down your muscles and joints, and ruins your fast twitch muscle fibers. (power wise) It is the WRONG kind of cardio, and at very least should be left out until “off season”. Also, Diaz and Rampage should never be mentioned in the same sentence(oops). Rampage is the man, Diaz is a little bitch, and triathletes and not athletes, just un-athletic masochists. I know………. the truth hurts. (I bet you throw like a girl, and your shoulders are pinner and weak and your shin bones hurt) Before you talk shit, I’m a personal trainer, and know what I’m talking about. War Rampage. ( I realize Jones is likely going to win) Log in to Reply JRubin September 21, 2011 still don’t understand how such a high paid athlete in Rampage does such shitty S&C Log in to Reply hond2dciv September 21, 2011 I knew I’d get someone who’d bring up that Rampage was a wrestler and Diaz is a triathlete. (Rampage was a low-level wrestler compared to Jones, Kos, Hughes, etc, etc.) My point still stands, in nearly every weight division. The new breed of champion (Edgar, GSP, Jones, Velazquez) have one thing in common: a lifetime in organized, high-level athletics. They are not thug-life dudes. Nick Diaz doing triathalons is commendable. But he didn’t get the upbringing in organized sports and it hurts his mental game, bad. If you want to counter my argument the best place to go is Anderson Silva. He is the last stand of guys who trained BJJ and Muay Thai as a lifestyle rather than coming at MMA from sports. The up and coming guys, by and large, come from sports. As for the comments on my knowledge of MMA, you’re on thin ice. I’ve watched this sport since the early days, I train in it, and it’s a good bet I make more money betting on it than anyone on these boards other than Bruno. Log in to Reply It sucked! September 21, 2011 Hey…..hond2dciv. Get your fact straight before you make comments. Jackson has a background in wrestling and notes its all the time. I guess you not a real fan! He was all-state in High School and was a standout in junior college. Log in to Reply ... September 21, 2011 @ hond2dciv i dont know if u r a troll but here is some advice: Sometimes in life and especially here on the internet, u might think u know everything but that does mean you do. btw triathalons r not organized? u r an idiot. Wrestlers are good and have discipline (i was one) but there are tons of kids coming up that train pure mma or even bjj so your theory is just stupid. If u have something against “thugs” then just say so dont try and pull everything into your lame argument. And as for Afan, who the f*ck r u telling us not to “bash other people”, our dad? lol Log in to Reply AFan September 21, 2011 @ … Who am I? I’m just what my name implies AFan! Not some “tough” guy calling people out over the internet saying their opinions are worthless. I find it funny though when people in their daily lives have no balls to talk bad about people, but only when they are all alone, hiding in some deep dark little cave, they decide I can talk smack to people I don’t even know and get away with it! If I was your Dad you sure as hell wouldn’t talk nonsense like that. Here’s an oxymoron “u r an idiot.” Even better, by you saying hond2dciv is a troll for this argument, then bashing him, kinda makes you a troll bro.Umad? Log in to Reply murell September 21, 2011 kockcheck is such a tool! he has the edge over Hughes, but he’s still a tool,it was fun watching G.S.P bust his eye time and time again,L.O.L Log in to Reply hond2dciv September 21, 2011 @AFan. I think it’s pretty clear from my posts that I don’t like thugs. As for the troll comment, I’m stating an opinion, whereas you are the one doing childish name calling. If you disagree with me that Rampage and Diaz lack the mental toughness to be champions in the UFC, make a counter argument. All I’ve heard so far is 12 year-old internet tough talk which just makes me laugh. Put your money where your mouth is and make some bets if you think you have more MMA knowledge than I do. I have $500 on Jones and I did have $500 on GSP when he was fighting Diaz. Obviously, that fight got scrapped and I did not bet on GSP vs Condit because that is a much tougher fight to call. I believe Condit has a better chance of beating GSP than anyone that has faced him so far. Log in to Reply hond2dciv September 21, 2011 Whoops, not @AFan, sorry AFan, @… Log in to Reply WaCk-HeAd September 22, 2011 Although I don’t want to get in the middle of this little discussion, I do find it amusing that you try to show off your MMA knowledge by betting on 6-1 favorites. I’m not sure if I would immediately call you the MMA betting expert, because you’re betting on Jones. Log in to Reply Justsayin September 22, 2011 Too much queefing in one thread for me.
