I watched this fight live on pay per view and this punch was so quick it caught me by surprise. I’m still in shock right now. I am a big time Liddell fan but damn, Liddell got beat in his own game. Liddell really needs a NEW game plan when he fights, people know what to expect when he fights, he CANNOT just stand up all the time and expect to knock ppl out. Chuck Liddell is being exposed now and he needs to mix up his skills more so his striking will be more effective. You never know what to expect from MMA, any fighter has a chance to win. That’s why I gotta give more props to the fighters who are winning on a consistent basis like Anderson Silva, Fedor, GSP, BJ Penn, and Randy Couture, these guys are the real superstars in MMA.

If Chuck wants to continues with his carrier and be successful, he needs to mix it up like he did during the Silva fight. He was amazing on that night, throwing punches from every angle, his hands were up, for the most part, he threw leg kicks, high kicks and most impressive, he was shooting in on Silva, which I haven’t seen him attempt since his early days.
Chuck, I think you have three or more fights left in you, but if you are going to win. You have to stop with this one-dimensional style, because everyone has figured it out. Be the fighter that you were when you fought Wanderlei Silva and you’ll win.

when you watch the slow mo, you see that the quickest hands won that exchange. Chuck was a bit sloppy in throwing that punch as it left him open but I didn’t think he expected Rashad to be that quick (though he knew Rashad was quick, just not that quick). Its plain simple, Lidell is an overrated striker… yeah he sustained 4 title defenses, but he was always fighting people who didnt know how to throw a punch(Couture, Ortiz, Sobral). That said, his takedown defense is superb, and that is really important in the UFC, where the rules seem to be made to favor wrestlers, you can go for the takedown as many times as you want, if you fail with the takedown, all you have to do is place one of your knees on the mat, and you´re safe.

Yes, if Chuck wants to keep fighting he’ll have to come up with a new game plan.I mean if you have natural knock out power in both hands,why not work on your take downs and ground game just to MIX it up a little and keep your opponent guessing. What really tells you the level of fight education about many of those making comments is that they said that this was a boring fight. These are the same people who would have said that watching tight ground game boring in the early days of MMA simply because they did not have the fight education to understand what was actually going on. What you saw here was boxing done at its best. A situation of matador vs bull. Circular elusive footwork vs linear footwork. In the days of the samurai most duels ended with one or very few strikes. The majority of real fights between to people of high level mastery consist of more footwork/outflanking your opponent until you achieve the better position to strike instead of throwing wild and random shots until you luckily hit your mark/opponent. In the early days of MMA many people would talk about how boring the fights were because the fighters would stay on the ground and hold positions until one achieved the upper hand and submitted his opponent. People became better educated and now understand the nuances of submission fighting is like watching a chess match. The same holds true for understanding the superior science of boxing and footwork. To hit and not be hit… if you think this is boring its because you do not understand the high science of fighting/boxing and need to be re-educated. The scientific fighter will always be able to dominate the brute.

There was nothing lucky about that punch. Rashad used fundamental boxing skills in moving around, even when he punched.
You can even see where Chuck miscalculated his position (the uppercut landed in Rashad’s armpit).
I also think it’s funny that people say “if he wasn’t faster blah blah”. That’s part of the game. Sounds like a personal problem for Chuck doesn’t it? Train harder.

The comparisons are in the style of fighting and ring tactics note the actual men. Lets not avoid the facts of the situation. Chuck Liddel was a great champion and is still a great fighter and legend in the sport. Evans is clearly scared, his “showboating” isnt showboating at all, if you watch the punchs he throws, his bouncing, and his unwillingness to clinch or exchange, shows he is scared. That was a lucky strike and you cant deny it. Evans wasnt even looking where the punch was going, it was some wild roundhouse and he was looking at the ground to his left.
