Watching the fight objectively, Munoz was actually doing work. Going to the body and to the head. That was not lay and pray. that cut didn’t just magically appear. not all wrestlers are about lay n pray. some still do ground n pound.

He could see, he just wanted to quit. That was absolutely NOT doctor stoppage, it was tapping to strikes. Leben gassed, got the hell beat out of him and quit. He took an ass whooping, nothing to be ashamed of. Leben will never be a contender. But at least he usually puts on a show.

The fight was officially ruled as corner stoppage not doctor stoppage. After the second round ended Chris and his cornerman were talking about his vision and they determined he could not see. Chris Leben would never tap to strikes, lol. Not a boring fight at all. Munoz has some HEAVY arm punches, reminds me of Fedor’s G&P a bit with the power. Leben should try to not take so many huge shots to the face, after all thats why he lost because he let Munoz punish him too much.

Munoz put on an incredible performance tonight. That was ground domination 101, not lay and pray. It was simply ground control and pounding on the ground. Leben was good and aggressive as usual but his conditioning betrayed him. Good fight. As always, thanks Bruno for the super quick posts !!!

Leben didnt ‘gas’ because of conditioning. he took a hellacious beating which is exhausting to endure. props to both guys… but munoz needs another win to call out A. Silva after he lost to Okami. Munoz vs the loser of Bisping/Miller fight would be good to see.
Also, any of you crazies thinking Munoz is a Lay and Pray fighter are insane. I personally prefer standup but Munoz is one of the most exciting fighters in the division.

Lay and pray MY ASS. That was some classic ground n’ pound at its finest. Don’t bash fighters for what they do best. Exciting or not, Munoz did what he had to in order to pick up the W while raising some eyebrows in the process. I do agree that he needs one more fight with a legit contender before calling out the Spider. Stann, Sonnen or Bisping. Bring it!

leben does not fight good in the uk. In this fight he was so god damn gassed I think he should fight at 205 or instead of cutting all your weight in one day spread throughout 2 weeks. Chris also needs to work on his td defence. Having one day to cut 15-20 lbs doesnt make sense chris.He lost this fight plainly because he gassed

Munoz has some vicious ground ‘n pound when he’s able to get on top. Still, there are a lot of weaknesses that will get exposed against an elite fighter like Silva. He got a lot of shots stuffed, wound up in several choke attempts, and let Leben up from dominant position. I still don’t think Munoz sets up shots well and it’s going to be really hard to close the distance against Silva. I still believe Sonnen is the only guy in the weight division who can beat Silva.

That was an entertaining fight! Leben’s got a chin of steel and he puts on good pressure. The crowd was all against Munoz and their cheers must’ve added pressure against the Filipino as well, yet he still managed to ‘lay and pray’ a bunch of ground and pound all over Leben’s face until it bled. I love watching ground and pound.

I believe Leben couldn’t see from the left eye. Bot the doctor and someone in his corner did some tests and he didn’t react at all. Of course he could still fight with only one eye, he was actually doing well after the doctor checked his eye, but he realized that he was only going downhill from there. Why risk further damage and miss the next paycheck?
Munoz v. Sonnen would be a good fight, as Bisping already has a fight coming. Stann is coming out of a loss, and he already beat Maia and lost to Okami… tough spot. Belfort could also be an option. He needs more fights before taking on A. Silva, but it looks like everyone is busy already.

Its unfortunate that some people don’t appreciate the ground game. They are never happy unless two people are standing right in front of each other swinging recklessly until one gets KTFO. This was not a lay and pray victory, those were heaaavy shots leben took. I agree with others and think it was basically Leben tapping to strikes. People that can’t appreciate a victory like this should probably avoid watching MMA so they aren’t disappointed.

Mark beat Leben with his heavy hands, and conditioning. I feel that Chris probably could have made it out to the 3rd round, but he gassed from several guillotine attempts, and a pounding, made the decision for him to stop.
Leben is one of the toughest fighters in the MMA, but Munoz showed that he was tougher. Great fight, and we haven’t seen the last of both of these great fighters…
