Carlo Prater vs. Erick Silva Fight Video UFC 142 Rio Main Card.
Robbed!
Only a single strike landed in the back of the head and was not even strong enough
Ok, still a dud of a card
I only saw one punch to the back of the head
For once I gotta agree with the Mario the ref.. although he has a history of making bad calls, when I first saw this I totally saw a bunch of back of the head shots, but the replay tells a slightly different story, even though a few of those did land in the back of the head.
The Yamasaki brothers pretty much suck.
I saw 2 to the back of the head, but they did not decide the fight.
regardless of the call, i dont think joe should have put mario on the spot live like that, since when are ref’s ever interviewed post fight like that? .. Mario, get outa brazil, i feel for your safety
# fear
Mario…what r u doing bro??? Silva clearly deserved the victory. Open your eyes and call the fight correctly…WEAK!!! Perhaps 1 or 2 out of the 12 shots landed close to the back of the head. He was clearly trying to strike from the side of the head…WTF
Joe Rogan is a prick and is totally unprofessional. He clearly hit him with a bunch of shots to the back of the head. About half were good and half were bad. I thought it should be a DQ but was thinking they would let it slide. I’m glad they didnt.
rogan can be such a doofus at times. this is one of the weakest cards i’ve seen in a long time.
Rogan should shut his yap his oppinion about the shots to the back of the head are irrelevant its the ref who makes the calls not the almighty joe rogan
I’m not surprised that this has finally happened. I understand that the ref has a very difficult job, but I don’t think any of them truly know what a shot to the back of the head is. The rule is supposed to protect fighters from getting hit at the base of the spinal column, Most of the time when the refs say ‘don’t hit the back of the head’, the blows are to the side. Gotta get these refs some training on that.
joe rogan trippin
Horrible call!!!!!!!-I have seen way worse examples of hitting to the back of the head without even a warning from the other referees-Boooooooooooooooooo!!
I don’t think the ref was wrong. There were at least 2 hammer fist to back of the head. No doubt Silva is a better fighter n he would finish the fight. But its a right call
sucks for silva, he didn’t hit too many in the back of the head, however yamasaki has a hard job, and refs don’t get instant replay to change their call…oh well
Joe WTF man, do you want Mario killed in Brazil?
For the past few months I’ve been watching so many crazy back of the head shots, even more than 10 or 20 elbow spikes, and just now a ref says something, and chooses a inappropriate time to call the foul, makes a mockery of the rule.
Go Mario! there’s too many shots to the back of the head that never get noticed and it’s unfair. Maybe this will make these fighters stop hitting people in the back of the head. Cheaters.
Come on Joe! Really? 1 shot hit the back of the head? Quite clearly there were a number of shots that landed on the back of the head. It’s always disappointing to see a D.Q finish, but I think on this occasion it was the right call.
DQ was a bit excessive…maybe just NC would’ve sufficed.
Why are you guys shytting on Joe? He did a great job on calling out Mario. Although I can see why you guys would disagree with the way he handled it, but this proves that we need replays in this sport. Why can’t the ref review the tape like other sports and make the right decision? Oh yeah, I remember now, the RULES are once a ref makes a decision, regardless whether he was wrong, he can’t change it. Bullshyt, you just stole money from a guy who trained his butt off. Did he hit the back of the head? I only saw 1 shot. Also, Mario wasn’t even in position to see the shots from the replay, by the time he got over there, it was already over. Hopefully now they will look at this situation and try to keep improving on things.
Joe Rogan is wrong. Those punches landed to the back of the head. Joe Rogan is a Dumbass. F*** you Joe Rogan!!!!!
There were lots of shots to the back of the head.
Yeah Joe Rogan the big prick…….. saying what everyone was thinking… how dare he…
I thought Mario should have stopped the fight and called a doctor in to establish if it was a DQ or not.
As he didn’t, it seems unfair to Silva. It should be a No Contest.
The rules are not well defined and, Mario is right according to some refs’ interpretation of the back of the head rule. He just didn’t follow the proper procedure.
Yes, there were other fights that were much worse and were not called a DQ, but a f*ck up in another fight doesn’t make it a rule.
This shows that the “unified rules of MMA” are not unified at all and the majority of refs. have to make do with half-assed, poorly defined rules. As much as people enjoy getting mad at refs., I think Mario was dealt a bad hand in this one.
Rogan was saving the the ref by letting him talk. the crowd and country would have flipped out if nothing was said and joe would look like a kunt too
Why does Yamasaki make that weird vagine shape with his hands before the fight starts?
My problem is that it took him way too much time and I think someone told him how to handle this. When he stopped the fight he had no intention of disqualifying Silva.
I’m half and half about this decision. On one side Silva didnt land that much strikes on the back of the head(I only counted 2 out of more then 10) but he still landed there and it’s illegal.I hte to see those KOs where the winner punched the back of the head 90% of the time. You need some decisions like that to make the fighters think about it.I love Vitor but his fight vs Franklin and Akiyama,he clearly punched multiple times behind the head intentionally.IMO You should be able to hit behind the head if the guy exposes his head like that. But as long as the rule is no hitting behind the head,I can’t be mad at a DQ loss from punches behind the head.
2 definite, 2 others maybe. It should have been a NC.
the side of the head, yeah the back side, one side of the side wraps around to the front, one side of the side wraps around to the back, those all hit the back corner of the side. ask prater where his head is sore, rogan was out of line, is he god now?
like ml said ^^^ the rule is supposed to protect the cerebellum which is lower than the two that did hit the back of the head. but when a guy turtles while getting pounded that will happen hes not trying to “cheat”. guys don’t get disqualified for an accidental kick to the nuts becaus his opponent turned into the kick
@ Pitfighterz ….I agree. Refs get too much hate. They can’t be perfect every fight. They have to deal with a loosely defined set of rules and react in in split second with the safety of a fighter on their mind. Reffing is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be though, it’s just that people make a big deal out of every mistake.
He did hit the man in the back of the head. But If your gonna DQ him then you should DQ everybody else who Hits the back of the head. Ive seen plenty of fights where the guy gets hit in the back of the head and goes on to win the fight. ( on the feet and On the ground ) I say he won that fight, the other guy wasnt even pointing to the back of his head, he was complaining about his shoulder
At the people saying this was a weak card or a “dud” are you blind? This card was awesome and had amazing knock outs and some decent subs. Gonzaga made edwardo look like an amateur on the ground. OT- There was possibly 2 shots to the back of the head. A warning at most. The fight should of been stopped since prater wasn’t defending himself and was hurt. I can’t wait to watch the post press conf, since i missed it.
I think it was a good call. Too many fighters have been punching to the back of the head as of late. My buddies were even joking that the referees were not even enforcing this and they dropped the rule. If the fighters as a whole were not warned about this I think this could have been a move where someone really gets hurt in the octagon. Sucks to be Silva though to be on the learning curve.
Looked like a few to the back of the head to me….
I agree with Joe calling out the ref honestly. BS calls by yamasaki is out of control. The few that may or not landed under the barage of punches that were destroying prater were clearly unintentional. Putting a lost on Silva record for that is absurd
Hmmm.. looked like shots to the back fo the head to me, and a lot aimed inthe vicinity that glanced or missed.
It was a tough call, but not a bad call.
Firstly, he clearly hit the guy to the back of the head 5 or 6 times. If you can’t see that, I’m concerned for your vision or complete bias.
Secondly, I think Yamasaki handled it poorly, and is a pretty lousy official. Sadly, I think you’d be hard pressed to find a very good ref in mma.
Thirdly, I used to really like Joe Rogan, but he’s been getting worse and worse lately and this was probably the worst thing I’ve heard him do as an announcer. It is absolutely not his place to call out the referee of a fight in the cage, in front of everyone like that. He’s been doing this thing where he gives his opinion of the judges’ and referees’ decisions in the post-fight interviews. Someone needs to put a leash on him, because it needs to stop.
Parietal runs almost to the back of your ear, which would be considerable to the back of the head. They honestly need to clarify what the back of the head is. Temporal is the ear area which runs out towards the parietal area. Get this s*** down, because tech it was a good call.
“most of them hit the side of the head…”
“…I don’t see any that hit the back of the head”
Slight contradiction there.
Rogan: “I agree” after he JUST said he saw some to the back of the head during the replay.
LOL dude, one of the final blows was a straight shot to the back of the head after he was already warned. I’d say there were a few to the back of the head and at least half of them were questionable.
f****** love Joe lmao
Any strike behind the ear is considered illegal.
Mario has made bad calls in the past, but he made a good call this time.
Rogan is a joke with a Napoleon complex.
People on this website cannot agree on the result after seeing slow-mo replay multiple times from different angles. How can anyone say the ref did a terrible job when he had just that one moment the call. I agree that it should be a NC, but in my opinion, most NC’s were awarded not right after the fight stops, but on the next day or so. This will probably not be such case, I guess the UFC cannot do that just like that and there is no commission to do it. Still, no damage to Silva’s career anyway, and not the worst decision by far.
come on. there clearly were shots to the head. not just one. if you listen to Joe when he’s pointing out the blows, he’ll say “okay, that was to the side. pause. that was legal. pause. that was legal. pause.” everytime he paused the shot was to the back of the head. why dont joe point out the shots to the back of the head. sure, its easy to say when you see the fight in slow motion, in real time, its a judgement call. and there has been too many shots to the back of an opponents head. i.e. belfort vs akiyama. maybe this “controversy” will bring more attention to these illegal blows.
I’m on the fence on this one. Just wanted to note the reffing inconsistency. I don’t think anyone would dispute the illegal strike(s) in the Vitor/Akiyama fight. Anyone want to take a guess who ref’d that one? =P Does the timing (i.e. after a fighter has opponent hurt) completely nullify the idea of an illegal blow? Apparently so.
I,ve always liked rogan but now i don’t know. he had no right to call out mario like that. what a douche.
lol if this is considered a DQ VITOR BELFORTS FIGGHTS WITH AKIYAMA AND FRANKLIN SHOULD BE DQ TOO HE LOVES PUNCHING THE BACK OF THE HEAD
F*** mario..i agree with rogan
