Is it arrogance that none of the Brazilians will learn enough wrestling to even pose a threat to an American wrestler? I mean we have American wrestlers getting brown and black belts in BJJ all day but it seems the Brazilians overwhelmingly refuse to learn anything more than basic wrestling.

Junior’s game plan was too simplistic: box, box, and box some more…. He obviously has athletic abilities so why does he insist on only using them for boxing. Just quit MMA and go to boxing full time. Just plain ridiculous.

drewblood Says, in 10-20-2013 at 01:30:40 from

ooof, i love a good beatdown but that was hard to watch at the end.. hey Junior… Cain has your number… please do not fight him ever again… ever.

After all of that massive beating he took it ends on an accidental/lazy faceplant. Unfortunate way to end such a valiant effort. Unreal though.

Dominate win for Cain but that should not have been stopped.

Noel Says, in 10-20-2013 at 01:54:41 from

Not bad for someone who hits like a girl.

@straightAhead: not speaking about all Brazilians but JDS in particular just boxes. That last ditch attempt to choke Cain is the first time I can ever remember seeing him do anything but box.

Joe Dog Says, in 10-20-2013 at 01:55:34 from

Cain Velasquez, like a dog with a bone.

Rugburn Says, in 10-20-2013 at 02:03:33 from

StraightAhead you called it right brother!! C’mon Brazilian’s achilles heel has been great Wrestlers. But the problem is that JDS was going against the top wrestler in the world. So even if he did wrestle all his life Cain will still have his way like he does with all the world class wrestlers. Now add to that that he is a smart MMA fighter with superior Kickboxing, KO power, unbelieveable cardio and stamina!! Thats why he is the champ and probably will be for a long time!!!

just a fan Says, in 10-20-2013 at 02:07:04 from

I really love both of this guys! they are the example of what warriors are supposed to be! no loss to Junior< he is still a bad men!!!! Cain, well he is in another category all together………….. but correct me if I'm wrong!

wEz Says, in 10-20-2013 at 02:12:28 from

Strange and amazing how Cain can keep such a pace for 5 rounds…doesnt lactic acid eventually set in?

Jacob Says, in 10-20-2013 at 02:18:30 from

If Dos Santos didnt train on his wrestling extensively, Cain would have thrashed him early. The pounding Cain gave him was due to Cain bieng the better fighter. Not even an experienced olympic wrestler like Coirmier can out wrestle Cain. It looked one sided because Cain didnt let Junior try anything and was bombarding him with all kinds of shots. Junior has great will, power, wrestling defense, and endurance, but Fighter like Cain are in another level. MMA is dawning an era of great latino fighters. Anthony Pettis, Cain Valasquez, are 2 great examples of the future. Fighters like GSP who hold their opponents down and find ways to fool the judges have no place in mma. Y los Boricuas y Mexicanos somos guerreros!

madog1 Says, in 10-20-2013 at 02:25:54 from

romuro Says, in 10-20-2013 at 02:44:26 from

They just arent training with Top Olympic Wrestlers, like Cain & company are….
The United States wrestling investment in College’s are paying off not only in the Olympic’s but in the UFC. There’s a reason the USA dominates in the Olympics (We are so culturally diverse & we like to mix things up)

Im a proud Mexican American Chicano like Cain, & i find it offensive Cain doesnt represent his family’s new country, the country our ancestor’s sacrificed so much for. At least do what Tito Ortiz does and raise both our flag’s…

OscarMayhem Says, in 10-20-2013 at 03:22:41 from

I don’t agree. Jr ‘s take down defense was very good. Wrestling was not his only undoing. To diminish Jr, disrespects how smart and well Cain fought. The fact is that the better overall fighter won tonight.

MMA Brazil Says, in 10-20-2013 at 04:12:18 from

You are partially right. I dont think it is arrogance but maybe Junior needs to change training camps. He was from the word go in a wrestling match. Cain wanted nothing but to push Junior against the cage and take him down, wear him down. Junior was in wrestling match and his corner was giving him instructions as if he was in a boxing match. He should be trying to get underhooks, revert the position, even attempt his own takedown on Cain, but his corner gave him nothing. His head trainer only knows boxing and it is time Junior expanded his horizons he is still young and is a fantastic athlete, he deserves better training/coaching.

t_donald Says, in 10-20-2013 at 04:24:56 from

Well American fighters tend to get destroyed in straight forward BJJ competition; so, yes, it is silly to excpect someone from a country with a very limited athletic infrastructure in place for wrestling to generally out perform someone who has had an amount of high level wrestling competition available to them since highschool and throughout college.

Ac5 Says, in 10-20-2013 at 06:12:51 from

I got to agree with you on the part that against Cain JDS seems very one dimensional, but tell me again who would out wrestle Velasquez. Please, JDS cleaned out the division but he just can’t get past CV because he’s too damn good. Is as simple as that. It’s very easy for me to say that styles make fights but it apllies very well in this case. And about Cain’s BJJ black belts and JDS “lack” of wrestling, are you kidding me? Cain’s a beast on wrestling and is a BJJ black belt right? So why couldn’t he keep Junior down for a minute? It wasn’t just about wrestling, Cain’s just got more skills alltogether than JDS.

juampi85 Says, in 10-20-2013 at 08:01:40 from

Mexico > Brazil

and now that Mexico has banned GMO corn, you’ll never defeat that Inca/Aztec/Olmec spirit.

Of course i’m joking, both guys are studs, i almost wished they had stopped it in the 3rd…not sure if Werdum can do anything different against Cain, but we shall see….hope JDS is ok.

StraightAhead Says, in 10-20-2013 at 10:19:54 from

@ivo3carter: all those people you listed use their wrestling defensively ONLY.
But th american wrestlers who learn bjj eventually start using it offensively as a compliment to their wrestling. So yes, you can go on but you will only continue to make less sense

rob Says, in 10-20-2013 at 10:28:50 from

@wcoastassassin, dude, that fight could have been stopped several times. Junior’s energy was gone and Cain got on him. Oh well

straightAhead Says, in 10-20-2013 at 10:53:08 from

And to further my point: when was the last time that you have seen any of those listed Brazilian go for a double leg or single leg take down?? When have you seen any of them pull ANY offensive wrestling move?!? ALL of their wrestling is DEFENSIVE!! Whereas we see even Chael Sonnen pulling of HATs vs Brain Stann or Jon Jones pulling off a standing guillotine vs Machida (a bjj black belt)!! Hell even Dan Henderson was going for subs vs Shogun as well as Fedor (not a Brizilan but my point is clear).

You sir, are the dumb ass. Congratulations.

america is greater. if cain grew up in mexico he’d probably be begging for money of giving tours to americans for a living.

mangymongoose Says, in 10-20-2013 at 11:04:19 from

Definitely reminds me of Randy’s style. Even more effective because Cain is good at striking and mixing that in. Still don’t like that he only reps Mexico, why not both? If you love Mexico so much, go back. If you love the country that gave you so much opportunity, then rep it. Just ungrateful and annoying. Good one sided fight though.

Joe Dog Says, in 10-20-2013 at 11:14:53 from

Another impressive domination of the #2 heavyweight. That was an example of how skilled, fit and determined Velasquez was to absolutely brutalize Dos Santos rather than just win.
After watching that, I ask you all, who could challenge Velasquez? …Werdum? (Chuckle)I don’t think so. Travis Browne? (LOL) Not. Josh Barnett? Doubtful. Miočić? Maybe, in time. Velasquez is like a super human beast. Who is next?

CaptainObvious Says, in 10-20-2013 at 12:49:58 from

man velasquez has a fusion reactor for a gas tank…wonder what his diet is like when training

smokinjoe Says, in 10-20-2013 at 13:28:55 from

These guys are both great warriors.Velasquez is just superior; better in the stand up and on the ground. He broke the distance perfectly .
JDS is great but he should have been stopeed in the 3rd and in the 4th.The referee , trainers and doctor are unconscious;there was no solution for JDS he was just beaten up.
He should change his trainers; they have no respect for their fighter.
I am no MMA fighter but I have been a boxer for 20 years.
JDS couldn’t forget what velasquez did to him in the 2nd fight.JDS quicky realised it in the 1st ans his trainers should have understood it and stop the fight in the 3rd.
JDS took too much beating;it was not necesary and those who say he shouldn’t have been stopped are stupid and never entered a ring.
Props to both but JDS will never be the same after this 2nd fight. He was already not the same after the 2nd fight but now it is worse.
He should retire, he no longer has something to prove

Dharmaboy Says, in 10-20-2013 at 15:00:09 from

Damn man, that shoulda stopped in the 3rd. Stupid JDS corner should have just saved their fighter from a royal beatdown but their foolish pride just had their boy get the s*** kicked out of him.

Cain is just one bad ass mofo. I highly doubt Werdum could take that barrage but I have no idea how Werdum even got to this point.

With that kinda cardio and condition, how do you stop an elite level wrestler that has that much punching power? I think Cain can rule the roost for a long time to come

Kakihara Says, in 10-20-2013 at 16:10:40 from

Mcfly Says, in 10-20-2013 at 16:11:01 from

It does not matter whether they have offensive or defensive wrestle but if they won the fights. If they did it defensively, oh well, they won anyways.
That’s what they train for, not to be a better wrestler…

Here’s a tip for jds the next time they meet and I’m sure they will
Junior stick and jab don’t use up all your power punches in the
early rounds. Most importantly use the entire octagon run a
frick’ marathon if u have to and maybe chill out the roids cuz
your muscles are weighing you down slim down (think Ali vs
then pray your big shot hits the sweet
spot on Cains chin. Better luck next time buddy

I can’t believe that not one of you before me noticed that Cain almost lost this fight by ko in the first round -early before the first clinch. And it’s not just Junior he lost to that way once and almost twice…Kongo too. I have no dog in the fight but am embarrassed reading all of this.

JoeS Says, in 10-21-2013 at 03:44:13 from

JDS trained with an Olympic wrestler in the lead up to the fight. Thing is, Cain trains with an Olympic wrestler three times a week and has a lifetime of wrestling experience to go with it. JDS uses what he’s most comfortable with and what has been the most successful for him his entire career and to call him arrogant for not learning how to wrestle is – ignorant.

You seem to be szo tough! You have absolutely no idea of the physical and mental pain JDS went through. It is the 2nd time it happens , he is 29 .Stop the massacre JDS and I hope keyboard warriors like you will have a little reflection.

Origional fan Says, in 10-21-2013 at 07:46:06 from

I hear what u r saying the camera angle of the punch that landed on Cain
was horrible. I saw the cameras zoom and focus in on the fighters at the very start of the fight and the punch was already landed. Either way we won’t know how much it affected Cain if at all. It could have just thrown him off balance. Did Cain even acknowledge being rocked at the start of a fight in any of his interviews……anyone??

rob Says, in 10-21-2013 at 16:29:39 from

I’m sure Junior was just trying to hype up the fight with “he hits like a girl” but he genuinely showed class by declaring Cain the undisputed victor. Great card. On to 167

Rugburn Says, in 10-21-2013 at 21:50:16 from

Lucky for JDS that Cain didn’t throw more liver and body shots in his combinations. Otherwise he would’ve been kissing the floor earlier. Every great boxer knows this trick. I don’t want to see a fourth fight bc Cain already proved that he’s a better striker with wrestling aside. JDS really needs to work more Greco Roman, Judo, and Muay Thai!! Only then will he be able to give Cain a real run for his belt!!

bunbury26 Says, in 10-22-2013 at 21:17:00 from

I was rooting for Cain but you have to admit that JDS is all class after defeat.
