The announcers are dumb, say in let him up….why so he can have a chance to throw a bomb and maybe pull out the victory? and IMO it took Pat Smith too long to finish, and really he didnt finish. Why didnt he grab an arm and armbar, or go for a choke? Do somethig just dont have a turtled opponent and not finish

I have nothing against Esch, he seems like a nice enough guy but this is Mixed Martial Arts, not Right Punch Martial Art. If a guy is utterly incapable of getting up much less defending himself, he doesn’t belong in the sport.

That sh*t was cute during the first couple of years when people were still asking things like “who’d win, a karate guy vs. a sumo wrestler” but I dare say the art has progressed in the last 15 years.

Big ups to Pat Smith! Not bad for 45 years of age. Although Butterbean is grossly overweight and couldn’t catch Pat Smith and doesn’t have a ground game he had the age advantage. I have to take my hat off to anyone who is able to compete on a competative level at age 45.

but a guy over 40 is cleary a shadow of his former self, those fighters you named have diferent stories. bernard hopkins is a good boxer that is over the hill and is pretty much a step to a new upcoming champion, and couture is a guy that started fighting late in his live so he has some fights in him. I agree with you over 40 does not make them unfit to fight but its pretty sad to see. I think its degrading.. Imagine a guy 10 years yonger than you koing you.. There is no respect in our society! I think fighters should be paid more and it should be tax free! they have very short careers!

Your concern for fighters past their prime is admirable, but when fighting is all you know then you have to be allowed to make a living at it. besides, MMA is not as dangerous as it seems, unlike boxing if your opponent even looks at you wrong you can simply tap out. butterbean didn’t have to take 21 punches and elbows to his head and face, it was his choice to tap after the first or the twenty first.
