I can tell you his ground and pound was horrible. He really needs to train with someone like Matt Hughes (sp?) or Randy Coutour to be effective. With his strength… and a lot of technique he could be unstoppable. The foul that was called was weak. I don’t fault the ref for stopping the action, but he shouldn’t have taken a point away from Lesnar (not that it mattered with the outcome.) If you’ve been training to do something a certain way for a year and then you start doing it and someone says, “hey, you can’t do that, I’m penalizing you,” it takes that person’s head out of the game. It’s not Lesnars fault MIR was turning his head like that. Lesnar smirked when it was over though…. He knew regardless… he had $250,000. Had he won he would have gotten a smooth half million… more than all the other salaries on the card combined. He still got more than the winner of the main event. I ain’t hatin’ on brock… he has time to train and perfect and he’s still pretty darn young. Good stuff overall. Log in to Reply Frank February 7, 2008 After all the could haves and would haves and should haves… and wait ’til next years from our panel of experts, only one thing really counts in the octagon and in life, RESULTS, and Frank Mir got ’em. Making excuses and whining like babies don’t make that big knee feel any better. My goodness, he does TAP well… we’ll give him that… Log in to Reply alex and dani February 8, 2008 Both these guys blow, one of them is only good on the ground, and the other is only good on his feet. If they want to learn from a real man, or if you all want to see a real big ass MOFO that knows whats up, you should see ALEX REYNOLDS! Log in to Reply Madman February 8, 2008 It was a good fight – went pretty much to plan as many have stated – for Frank Mir. In the interview about a month ago, Frank stated that he KNEW that Lesner was going to hit him. He also anticipated that Lesner was going to go to the ground (as any national wrestling champion would). Frank worked arm/leg bars really hard for this fight – and it showed. I was a little disapointed in the fact that Frank missed TWO arm bar attempts – but the leg slide to the outside of Lesner’s right leg was AWESOME – Lesner had NO idea what Frank was up to when he did that. For those that think Lesner will only need 6 or 7 months of jujitsu to be the champion in the UFC HW division should really re-think what they are saying. Frank (while I’m happy that he won), was NOT in the best shape of his life – and (as many have also pointed out) nowhere near the shape he would need to be in to capture the title again. Taking that into consideration – Lesner would have been beaten even WORSE by a ranked competitor, much less the champ. So six months? Nah, more like a year or two. Also – I agree with those who said that Steve made the right decision in standing the fighters up after the blow to the back of the head. It is no different than when they stop the fight for a nut-kick – except that the blow to the back of the head is much more dangerous – it’s called RULES guys – if you don’t like them – go bare knuckle fighting on YOUTUBE. Simply put – Steve stopped it – penalized the fighter for the infraction, made sure Frank was okay and IMMEDIATELY started the fight when he saw the fighter was okay – what’s the problem??? Log in to Reply Smashedyoface February 8, 2008 Nice Madman you hit it right on the nose! Log in to Reply rich jay February 8, 2008 Brock Lesnar had a puncher’s chance to win this fight, but he screwed up and took Frank Mir to the ground. That was the mistake that cost him the fight. Log in to Reply synryder February 9, 2008 Lesnar make a rookie mistqke and mir capitalized, ref sucked, and give lesnar a couple more fights and he will be dominate the division, and to all you peeps who thinks he should fight tim silvia lesnar kicks his ass in first min silvia ia a punk Log in to Reply Bert Havens February 9, 2008 Brock will get better will mir?.. Log in to Reply Edge Crusher February 9, 2008 Not right on the nose Madman. I get what you are saying but Brock does only need a few months of tweaking in his Jui Jitsu. Lets not forget what happens when you have a sick athlete with extreme dedication to Jits ie BJ Penn. Took him only 3 years to win ****ing worlds! Brock was like it was said PURE CLASS and took the loss like a man with no excuses, good for him. I think by him showing he could fight, lost and took it so well gained him many more fans than if he would have just destroyed Frank. You know Brock said no excuses so **** everyone making excuses for Mir saying things like… well he wasn’t in great shape and that shit. Brock will be back and has a chancer at beating ANYONE in the heavy weight division. So, he will be around for a while. Lets wait a few years and let Brock develop and have Brock vs Fedor hahaha Machine vs Machine Log in to Reply Mark February 9, 2008 That call was bull, people get punched in the back of the head all of the time and it never gets stopped. If it never got stopped, then Lesnar would have got the point. Mir ended up with the win on his record, but Lesnar was the real victor. Log in to Reply Easygoer February 9, 2008 I am glad i didnt pay 40 dollars to watch that.i think lesnar needs to put the weights down and get a little more flexible for his ground game. he charged and put mir on the ground wich was a wrong move then he stood up and let mir work his leg gaurd..next time i bet he steps back…I think Lesnar will get alot better but it will take a few fights to learn all of his flaws Log in to Reply bigboi February 10, 2008 w8…w8…lesnar da man if it wernt 4 da submisssion mir wud hav been countn hz teeth on the ground go lesnar u da man i knw da nxt tym u gona make us WWE ppl proud! Log in to Reply BRATLEY February 11, 2008 well to say the least its disapointing. i had faith in lesnar ****in mir up but hey the mans got skill. if the fight were to go three rounds though mir would of been bloodied the **** up. im sure lesnar will be an intresting fighter to see in the ufc for fights to come. just a heads up though i got money on th lesnar for the rematch after lesnar get a lil more expierience. ur man bratley from chicago!!!! Log in to Reply Smashedyoface February 11, 2008 Edge Crusher, you can’t just tweak your BJJ in a few months to become great, especially after showing the skills he has. Have you ever trained BJJ? BJ Penn has been doing jiu jitsu for a long time, since his early teenage years. Jiu Jitsu takes a long time to get good at know matter how quick of a learner you are. You can never know enough, there is always room for improvement and Lesnar wont be a great fighter until he has a year or two more of Jiu Jitsu under his belt. He may win some fights against other strikers or ground and pounders. But most that are well versed in BJJ will do the submit him. Log in to Reply j_satan_666 February 11, 2008 look he’d have to learn bjj for years to play catch up. also the heart of a fighter isn’t determined by skill but by desire. if he’s so strong why didn’t he get out of that knee bar? frank was on the side of the leg as well. quit talking about the point deduction he tapped out. why is everyone a fan of the giant steriod monger anyway? i’m sick of lesnar, put him against heath herring, that kid will smash him. Log in to Reply daku_ulok February 12, 2008 steve mazagatti is a fu$king granny’s as$hole! his only redeming quality is his mustache Log in to Reply gunnyhighway99 February 12, 2008 Lesnar is a physical specimen, but he needs to concentrate more on rounding his skills than his biceps. Log in to Reply Tommy February 12, 2008 HEY SMASHEDYOFACE! For your information I have been training MMA for 4 years and before that I had 27 amatuer boxing bouts. I’ve been hit in the back of the head accidently and intentionally before, I agree it does hurt and is’nt safe, but the point deductiion was harsh. Don’t be so disrespectful of other peoples opinions… When was your last fight BIG MOUTH?!! Log in to Reply Luke February 12, 2008 wow brock had him owned, mir had to pull off a LUCKY submission Log in to Reply Chris Brock February 13, 2008 The only way mir can beat brock lesnar is by submission only that fight proved it.”A submission is an easy way out of getting your ass kicked isn’t it frank” Log in to Reply Smashedyoface February 13, 2008 Tommy – He was warned before that and if you fight you know that once your warned you can’t do it again. He did! A point was deducted. My last fight was 2 months ago, an amatuer mma bout. Being hit with boxing gloves is a lot different. My buddy I train with was hurt during competition due to strikes in the back of the head, he’s ok now but had to go to the hospital multiple times to get MRI’s and such things done. How many MMA fights have you had over your 4 year course? Do you disregard what a ref tells you? I wasn’t being disrespectful to other peoples opinions I was explaining why Steve shouldn’t be getting the flack that he is. Log in to Reply Ritchie February 14, 2008 Who ever said Mir’s submission was lucky needs to watch the fight again and see how it was beautifully set up. As for who ever said that the only way Mir could win was by submission is an idiot also. Thats all I have to say about that. I would be embarrassed if I was stupid enough to post that comment. Log in to Reply thestank2004 February 15, 2008 For a rookie he was beating up the former champ. He should have just stepped back and beat him for 3 rounds. If they fight again Brock will overpower him and win. He showed class in the loss kudos to Mir he escaped with his life. Mir did not look good! Brock looked great just a rookie mistake. Log in to Reply Frank February 16, 2008 Chris Brock must be a 6th grader. “The only way”… Huh?… It’s MMA bonehead… Log in to Reply Tommy February 17, 2008 Hey Smashed… My bad. After I made that first post I saw you had written some more and agree with many of your points. It was just the bitter WWE fans thing that got me going. I’ve had 7 MMA bouts 3-2-1-1nc… Not a world beatingf record but I do love the sport. My first post was a bit full on, so as a man I appologize Log in to Reply coelohren September 30, 2008 i think Barack Lesnar should go back on Raw to fight Log in to Reply SourDough October 22, 2008 I do hope these 2 gentlemen meet again, because a “2 outta 3″ WILL sell tickets! Oh, Brockie, baybee — I hope your trainer has you watching films and working on your “defense”. Your offense is getter much better! Por favor, Brock, no mas “Tappity Tap Tap Tap”. Log in to Reply RampageCorbin June 24, 2009 To everybody that says brock should have let frank up look- brock is a wrestler since he was like 8. thats what he does thats where he feels comftorable is on top. his striking skill suck as much as his juijitsu apparently(Well back in the mir fight at least.) his goal is to get guys on there back and dominate them. He just left a leg open. Silly mistake that I’m sure alot of rookie wrestlers would make. Stop hatin on brock just cuz hes a freak athelete he’s gettin the skillz he needs to become the best. honestly if he fights anybody but mir(and maybe minotauro nogeria) he would beat the hell out of him. The guys a tank and is unstoppable but his juijitsu is still is only hole in his game in my opinion Log in to Reply HaHa33 June 28, 2009 Was for frank in the fight but after seeing the way he won I feel robbed of being able to watch a waffle stomp ground and pound. Mazagatti gave that fight to Mir. Way worse and more intentional hits to the back of the head happen all the time and they never take away point and let there be a recovery time. Hate to say it but I hope brock finishes the job he started in 100.
