Vera sucks ass, and his comments mean nothing… having a great fighter on full mount on top of you is not easy to take, and anyone should know that.

You don’t need to be almost dead for the referee to stop a fight, it was inevitable that we was gonna get messed up, even if there were only 20 seconds on the clock.

Werdum is a good fighter and he got the win, thats pretty simple.

All I can say is Kimbo 60-70 blows to the face in the crucifix position, not heavy shots, but connecting shots - Kimbo verbally says he’s ok. 1 minute left. So the fight continues. — Intelligent defense?

Vera - mounted with 30 seconds to go. 20-25 shots by Werdum. Mostly blocked. Vera verbally says he’s ok. 15 seconds left. The fight stopped. –
Sounded and looked like intelligent defense to me.

20 seconds a little hard to live thru in full mount, sure… ever seen frank shamrock hold on for like 4 minutes in full mount against enson inoue? And then get up, and knock him the fuck out? I’m not a huge Vera fan but the stoppage was definitely early. Vera was intelligently defending himself and there was no point in the ground and pound where he lost control of his defense.

Mirgliotta has no excuse to allow Thompson to elbow Kimbo in the head with no defense and stop Vera from effectively defending himself. There’s no consistency in Mirgliotta’s officiating.

The only consistency is that Mirgliotta sucks in every fight. Bring Big John McCarthy out of retirement!

Vera is right, he makes some good points, and is rational in his analysis…SO WHAT! Vera is a fighter, I don’t care what you have to SAY after the FIGHT.

Rule of MMA, boxing…any sport, don’t put yourself in a position to let the referee decide your fate. Vera siad it himself, he gave up full mount. Everything after that is irrelevant. He put himself in the position for the ref to stop it.

I certainly won’t dispute that.

That said, Vera has disappointed me lately and he should have never even been in such a position (mount) to begin with. He’s right; he did have Werdum “rocked”, but then he unintelligently chose to play Werdum’s game.

He is a way better fighter than what he has been showing lately. It almost seems like he just doesn’t want it anymore.

Plus, can someone please get Vera a better trainer, one who can actually prepare a decent game plan for him because his recent game plans have sucked! He fights his opponents’ absolute strength (ground, clinch, whatever it may.), instead of utilizing his own strengths and maxamizing their weaknesses.

Anyway, I’m rambling; sorry.

Fabricio did his part by mounting Vera…..Vera did his part by defending a mount that was done by a world class fighter, and Dirty Dan did his part by ruining a great fight.

20 Seconds left with 2 world class fighters and the guy on the bottom is defending himself and he stops the fight. 2 minutes left with 2 bellow average fighters and the guy on the bottom isn’t doing anything, but he lets it go on.

Either Dirty Dan is the king of taking bribes or the worst ref in history. I’m not taking anything away from Fabricio’s efforts, i’m not even saying that vera would have won, for all we know he woulda got destroyed for 3 straight rounds……but I think i should have been able to find out for my 55 dollars.

I really hope organizations learn a little something from the last two events that Dirty Dan has been a part of, and maybe don’t hire him, as I will think twice about ordering an even that has him as the referee, as i’m starting to feel nothing will get settled and will have to wait for a rematch with a real ref anyways.

That was a ridiculous stoppage. Anyone who knows Brandon Vera knows that he is a tuff dude who doesn’t give up and has no problem being hit in the face. Vera is an incredible fighter and its a shame that he has that bullshit loss on his record now. Was very dissapointed to see the fight stopped when it was clear Vera was fine, those punches from the mount weren’t even doing much damage, hardly any of them even got through. Ref Miragliotta is a f*in joke!

Just because a fighter has the mount doesn’t mean he automatically wins. I saw the fight and I saw Vera with his hands up weaving right and left on the ground. He was definitely defending himself. He did get hit but he was definitely still defending himself. I’ve seen fighters in that position get hit and drop their hands to the side and have that glassy look in their eyes. This was definitely not the case. Vera wasn’t hurt, the ref should have waited until Vera stopped defending himself. Props to Werdum for getting the mount.

There have been alot of fighters that have survived being mounted and ground and pounded. Should the ref stop all fights that end up in a mount automatically because of something that might happen?

Every fight I have seen where the fight was stopped in that position is when the pinned fighter fails to defend himself, try to get out of the guard, or when his eyes roll back and his hands drop. Did this happen? NO!

Perhaps Vera should have kept his thumb up the entire time ala Kimbo Slice and lasted the 20 seconds according to “Garagliotta rules”. Then, according to the same philosophy, if he hit his opponent with 3-4 good shots Garagliotta would have to stop the fight standing, right??

Brandon is a very good fighter, he kept Fabricio off balance ’til the end of the 1st round. It was stopped too early, Vera shouldn’t have turned and looked like he was gonna turtle. That’s what triggered Dan’s caution.

Either way, Vera should not be trashing the refs. Everybody saw the fight, we know what happened and so does the UFC. Not cool.
