There is still plenty of time left to get your bets in for Kimbo Slice Vs Tank Abbott at the Bank United Center in Miami, Florida on Saturday night.
For those that don’t understand how the odds work read this post by Ninja.

Unlike football as basketball where there are point spreads (ex. -7, +13.5) UFC fights have odds which are called moneylines. A moneyline is basically a way for the sportsbooks to even out the betting public. So for example if Chuck Liddell was fighting a no name guy in his first fight, Liddell would be a HUGE favorite, probably around -4400 or so (44 to 1). If there was no moneyline, you could just bet on the favorite everytime, and become a millionaire pretty quickly.

So here is an actual example from a UFC fight, that will explain the odds a bit better.

Chuck Liddell (-140)

Keith Jardine (+120)

In this matchup, Chuck is the favorite at -140. This means that for every $1.40 you bet, you win $1. So if you were to bet $140 on Chuck, you’d win $100 (profit) if he is victorious. Keith is the underdog in this match at +120. This means that for every $1 you bet, you will win $1.20. So if you bet $100 on Keith, and he wins, you will win $120 (profit).

The moneylines on UFC fights will often change with the amount of money coming in on each side. If a bunch of money is coming in on one side, the sportsbook will adjust the moneyline to even out the action and get bettors betting on the other fighter. With that said, whatever the odds are when you place your bet, is the odds you get. They don’t change like in horse racing.

If I understand the system, if I put $450 on Kimbo to win and he, say, knocked Tank the fuck out, then I’d win $400, right?

No Viking. If you put $1 on Kimbo, you would win $.45 cents. Therefore, your total payout would be $1.45 (the original $1 you bet plus the .45 you won from the odds). If you put $1 on Tank, you win $3 for total winnings of $4. The odds are based on who is favored. The lower the number, the more favored they are. Kimbo is heavily favored in this match, which is why his payout would be so low.

Beast, you are partly right and party wrong. Your betting for Tank is right on. If a fighter is 200, then you will win $2 for every $1 you bet. However, for a fighter with a -200, then for every $2 you bet, you will win only a dollar.

Viking - if you bet on Kimbo, for every $4.50 you bet, you only win an additional dollar.

Think about everything based on 100 dollars. If Kimbo is -450, you would have to put 450 dollars to win 100. If Tank is 350, you put 100 dollars on him to win 350. Even means you put 100 dollars on scott smith to win 100 dollars.

Thanks for the info. As for the fight, I’m not really interested in two “brawlers” fighting (go to a bar at 1:00 a.m.), but I want to see if Kimbo can evolve due to his training, or if he thinks he can just go for a walk in the park and get put down. I’m betting on evolution;)
