I don’t think it was stopped early. Steve Mazzagatti saved Ben from an asswhoopin’. Because from the looks of the continuous beating he was taking, there was no way Ben would have lasted to the end of the fight. He would have been either KO’d or submitted if they let the fight go on.

Cain is a BEAST, mad Ben look like an amateur. Mix of GSP and Fearless wanderlei. He just keep improving each fight like GSP, guy is relentless. Lack Knockout power from a heavyweight, might be his downfall against a bigger heavyweight. I want to see him improve on one more fight. Then bring on Brock on. His ready for the tittle shot. That fight could have been stopped at anytime. He took too many shots and Mazz warned him that he wasn’t going to let him take much more of that. Good stoppage. He was warned. Big Ben got dominated! I disagree with the commentators, just because you get up doesn’t mean that you are alright. Most of the time instincts make you get up even after heavy undefended shots like that. Any dork that says early stoppage is clearly an idiot. I lost count on how many shots snapped Ben’s head backwards like a broken twig. The minute Ben got up you know he was going down again and get beat some more. Ref knew that you know that so stop with early stoppage bullshit.

Anyone with a racially themed tattoo on their body, specifically Cain’s large “Brown Pride” on his chest, should not be allowed to fight in televised or pay-per-view events. i def agree cain would have won this fight even if the ref didn’t stop it when he did but rothwell was taking those punches and stood up right before the ref stopped it. I think cain is a tough fighter but he will not dominate lesnar like that. i’m not a big fan of lesnar but he is too strong on the ground and hits too hard.

Utter dominance by Velasquez. He is looking really impressive. First a huge win over Cheick Kongo and now this one. For the people that think it was an early stoppage you have to realize that the referee takes into account the total cumulative damage that the fighter has sustained throughout the fight in making that decision and not just that particular round in which the fight was stopped. Rothwell took a ton of unanswered shots in the first round and even though he is a tough guy who probably could have taken more, he didn’t need to. The fight was way too one sided and if one fighter is not protecting himself or answering back the fight needs to be stopped. It’s funny how Rothwell was saying that takedowns don’t win fights and that’s exactly what happened to him, even though most of those takedowns were more like drag-downs.
One more thing, for the people on this site and others that say that Velasquez is a racist because of his tattoo, you really need to reevaluate your way of thinking. There is a big difference between “Brown Pride” and “White Power”. You can be proud of your heritage without being racist, especially when you come from a repressed minority race.

Bruno: There is a fighter with “White Pride” tattooed on his arm. They always make him put tape over it. I have posted a couple of his videos but I can’t remember his name. He also says that it is just “support for his people”. I don’t see how you can oppress one persons support for his people and praise anothers. It seems like they both should be treated equal.
I am part Native American and part Anglo so I see it from two views.

A Caucasian is not permitted by society to express pride in their race (though country of origin is usually ok, like being proud to be Italian or Scottish and such). Listen, this is hardly the place to debate racial politics, but I have to disagree with those who are talking about someone having a “White Pride” tattoo. Like I said before, there is a big difference in saying “Brown Pride” or “White Pride” and “White Power”. Cain could potentially outwrestle Brock – both are NCAA Division I All-Americans. Brock went to Minnesota, Cain to Arizona State, both colleges with top-notch wrestling programs. The deciding factor in that fight wouldn’t be wrestling – two wrestlers with pedigrees like that wouldn’t want to take it to the ground, unless Brock does his usual “lay my fat ass on top of you and hit you” technique.

I’d love to see that fight – would definitely be pulling for Velasquez, tattoo or not.

Kob, the difference between the Saku fight and this is that those punches were coming from a heavy weight. Also, Ben’s head was being slapped around like a pinata in a kid’s birthday party. As for the Saku fight sure he won the fight but at what cost? Should we now let all fighters fight even though they are clearly being battered to the ground in hopes that they still might get up a win? Do you know what getting hit in the head repeatedly can do to a fighter? Forget permanent brain damage, fighters can get a hematoma in their brain slip into a coma and die. This just happened to a guy in my gym during the last golden gloves tryout. He got beat bad with 16 oz gloves no less. 2 hours later after the fight, he felt dizzy fell down and died at the hospital. It is no joke dude. Ref’s have to err in the side of caution.

FYI..

Refs and judges don’t work for the UFC. They are licensed by and work for the state athletic commissions.

(It just annoys me when people say the UFC should get new refs and/or judges as if they are hired and brought in by the UFC.)

This was an experienced fighter. He knows the risks, he never seemed hurt, it was a major event, & he just escaped from Cain on the ground. You have to give him the opportunity to keep fighting. Tragedies have occurred, but they occur in many sports. It was still a bad stoppage.
