Nick Diaz vs BJ Penn

Nick Diaz and Dana White worked out a way to keep Diaz on the card and get B.J. Penn his replacement fight at the same time.


By bumping Diaz off the headline fight this will take a huge amount pressure from his shoulders to help promote the October UFC 137 event.

I see Penn taking this fight and definitely thought this fight would happen. Penn takes this fight via better overall grappling and due to Diaz’s terrible strike defense. Bj may even finish him. However I can see Diaz using his reach and ripping Penn with body shots for the tko, but I’m pretty sure Penn is better than Diaz at nearly every aspect of the fight game. This has been my dream fight for about a year now, can’t wait! Big fan of both fighters but gotta go with Blowjay.

What are your thoughts on this fight Bruno? Who takes it?

Again, I’d just like to say I told you so. I called it as soon as Dana said “I have a crazy idea for BJ” at the presser. I saw it in his eyes. And I read it in that Diaz video too, where he rambles on about still going to Vegas, and still being willing to fight “whoever”. See, I speak fluent pothead, and wasn’t falling for that BS for a second. He already knew. Dana had already spoken to him by then. This was all set up in advance, and Nick threw that video out because the UFC told him to.
Sorry, but for once, I was right about something. And I scooped everybody with it. So I had to brag a little. Don’t worry, it most likely will never happen again.

I f***in knew that’s what Dana was planning. IMO far better match-ups. BJ and Diaz are actually gonna scrap! Against GSP it wouldve been very lackluster (takedown after takedown). And likewise, Condit posses a bigger problem than Diaz for GSP in regards to takedown because of those knees. It all worked out far for the better, im a happy fan!

I think either opponent for GSP is good Condit and Diaz both would have brought the fight to GSP. but for Penn I think diaz is a better match up. Penn has had some rough fights against aggressive wrestling types like Condit. and both Diaz and Penn will be willing to stand and bang and if it does hit the mats penn will wash the cage with him. Dana really pissed me off when he took out diaz, but penn vs. diaz should be more exciting. GSP will dominate condit though…I think diaz has this one because of his length (if it stays on the feet), but it will be interesting to see whether they fight on the feet or on the ground.

Diaz’s pace, aggression, precision, body shots, tenactiy, height/reach, punches in bunches and awkardness is going to wear BJ out to the point where Diaz will easily KO or submit him!

This whole thing looks like a big stunt to make the SF card disappear from people’s radar. Bruno’s last 3 SF-related posts got less than 15 comments.

Anyway, Condit is abetter fight for GSP. Diaz’s ground game from the back is nasty, but it’s mostly submissions. Condit’s is a nasty slice n’ cut artist. If GSP takes him down, there is a good chance Condit will win by doctor stoppage as he might open a few vaginas into GSP’s skull.
Standing up, Diaz has great hands, but GSP is faster in getting in and out with that jab and GSP has decent leg kicks. Against Condit, GSP has to worry about Condit’s kicks, which will nullify his leaping jab, and Condit has nasty knees and elbows that might complicate things. GSP has been cut many times in the past, it’s just a matter of how much blood Condit can draw from him before the fight ends.
GSP will have to completely change his game plan, while Condit will be actually free to b play to his natural strengths. It will be a very fun fight to watch just to see how they will try to outsmart each other.
BJ v. Diaz will depend mostly on BJ’s cardio. If he comes in shape, BJ is better. If not, Diaz only needs to push him to half of the second round and then beat him up.

..wow, soo many idiots. BJ and Diaz are NOT the same fighters. Diaz has infinite cardio, he’s never gassed, BJ usually gasses half way through the second round. Bj throws wild looping punches, Diaz is a very accurate combo striker. Diaz comes in and battles like a warrior EVERY fight, BJ… you never know if he’s coming out to win or just take home a paycheck. The only true comparison is their BJJ skill level, but seeing as they’re both really good, it kind of nulls that aspect of the fight. Another major point is that Diaz doesn’t give up or get discouraged if he loses a round. Ge gets angry and more determined. We’ve all seen Bj’s spirit break on more than one occasion in the cage where he just stops trying. Ultimately, this fight is majorly in Diaz’s favor.

Dana White Fix. He got em to sign with Zuffa instead of Boxing knowing he wouldnt show to the press conf and wrote it in the contract just to F*** Diaz out of a pay day. Seems like the dana white thing to do.
