Johnson can get ahead if he keeps it together for the next couple of fights. Speed and power are dangerous together.

johnson is 6′2 excellent wrestler with KO power in his hands, our WW champ GSP is 5′11 wrestler with zero power in his hands, need i say more ? st peirre’s days are numbered, even if he gets past swick, this beast will destroy him, gsp nuthuggers better start praying johnson move to MW, LMAO, hell johnson will whoop, alves, hardy, fitch, daley and koscheck those losers have no chance. he is like jon jones for the WW division.

Ehh, are they even in the same weight class? How much weight did Johnson cut? These Japanese guys really need to cut weight because they always fight undersized. There is no way a 6′2″ heavily muscled guy is only 176lbs. I have to say that Johnson was easily 200+ lbs at the start of this fight.

When will we get to see him let an opponent get outta the first round? Anthony Johnson is decimating his class, and Thiago will DEFINITELY have his hands full with this kid.

Dana should force him to move up a weight class. 200lbs vs 170 isn’t worth celebrating the win.

Sean Wooldridge Says, in 10-25-2009 at 08:42:48 from 74.97.252.74

I think Johnson might be the only guy in the WW division who has a puncher’s chance against GSP. That kind of explosive striking might be the only way to stop him. I would still favor GSP in that match. But if he can keep it standing just long enough to land something, that just might be the only formula that would work against GSP at this point.

Thoughts?

ZMan Says, in 10-25-2009 at 09:13:46 from 76.174.50.126

Rumble cuts from 220 to 170 to make welterweight. He wasn’t even able to make this cut.

I’m sick of fighters who cut extreme amounts to pound out smaller guys; there needs to be some rule limiting walk around weight and competition weight.

ETK Says, in 10-25-2009 at 12:57:10 from 76.90.11.148

Oh, it was the weight disparity.
I agree with the poster whom stated Johnson was much more than 176 and more closer to 200.
6′2″ and heavily muscled and lean like that does not equal 176.

martin83 Says, in 10-25-2009 at 13:04:46 from 68.227.42.208

johnson should move up to at least middleweight and kill anderson silva!! sigh* but seriously he needs to move up to middleweight and fight some challenge to his size and let the spider slice his head off like he does to smaller fighters..

SomebodySpecial Says, in 10-25-2009 at 13:09:31 from 24.10.200.183

A “walk-around” limit is nonsense, but if you can’t make weight every time with no excuses then you need to move up.

This match up was ridiculous. It seems obvious they want to hype johnson.

The dude is big but 220 he cuts from? I wonder how much he really weighed in at fight time? Regardless his striking is sick, top 5 in UFC striking wise

Ok… redblood, really, GSP has NO power? quite the stretch. But yea, in a boxing match, rumble would likely whoop him. However, this is MMA, and GSP is one of the most well rounded fighters in the sport. I’m not a nut hugger, I just recognize greatness when its there. You on the otherhand sound like a rumble nut hugger. Not trying to pick a fight here, just sharing my observations. I think rumble needs to start getting a better class of opponents, his record is well padded, he’s ready for more. and keep practicing his wrestling (take down defense) and ground game. Wouldn’t hurt to move up to middle weight either;)
He’s a talented man, I hope to see him continuously improving.

PitfighterZ Says, in 10-25-2009 at 22:16:25 from 71.63.35.74

Rumble is great, but that size and weight difference definitely changed the fight. He is fighting in the wrong division.
If he can pull it off, GSP should start training hard…

I think Fioravanti, Burns, and Yoshida are all respectable opponents. I think it’s time for him to advance into the upper echelon now. Give him Koscheck, Fitch, or Alves.

Seriously, give Johnson some real fighters. He’s earned them and they’ve given him a nice enough win/loss ratio. Now that they’ve got an 8-2 fighter, how about someone with a prayer?

And seriously, cutting from 220? The fact that he shed 44lbs is pretty incredible, and not coincidentally horrible for your health and draining on your muscles. He won’t be able to do that forever – either his weight will come down or he’ll move up a weight class or three.

They should put in a rule that says that you can’t have a large discrepancy from your weigh-in weight and fight night weight.

The Black Swordsman Says, in 10-27-2009 at 12:10:30 from 173.103.206.133

Great KO but come on the guy came to the weigh in at 176 lbs … that means he was almost 200 on fight night. Yoshida showed heart by still agreeing to the fight but everytime I’ve ever seen a guy not make weight and still fight he’s knocked the other guy out … Castillo-Corrales , Gouveia-McDonald , etc. It’s not fair period and Anthony Johnson physically looks like he could scrap with GSP but I doubt it’ll ever happen as hard as it is for him to make 170.
