Anthony Johnson 12 Pounds Over Weight, Will Still Fight Belfort

Anthony Johnson today did not come close to the middleweight mark required for his co-main event bout with Vitor Belfort at UFC 142.

When Johnson stepped on the scales he officially weighed 197 pounds. Officials announced Johnson has been fined 20 percent of his “show” money (which goes to Belfort), and after rehydrating, he can weigh no more than 205 pounds on fight day for the bout to go off.

Vitor Belfort (20-9 MMA, 9-4 UFC), who weighed in at 186 pounds, said he will only take the fight if Johnson (10-3 MMA, 7-3 UFC) is no heavier than 205 pounds for the match.

This is not cool. Anthony Johnson may very well be another the best there never was. He is always off in his mind and can never seem to get full control of the emotional trauma that happened to him when he was a child and his mother lost custody of him. A shame when we cannot see people in our world at their best. I Vitor wins because any other way it will not be fair. Keep living in love my MMA fans and warriors. Vitor is smart for not allowing Johnson to be more than 205, Vitor will probably be close to that around fight time while Johnson will have to struggle to stay that light. Theres a good chance Vitor and Johnson will come in at the same weight and I bet Belfort will feel much better, plus he can play the underdog role.

i think everyone is forgetting he let himself go up to 230 in his off time..once you get to a certain weight its near impossible to go back down to normal, hence the move up in weight class.

I don’t mean to play devils advocate, but from what I’ve read he got sick before the weigh in and the doctor made him drink a ton of water… 12 lbs is about gallon and a half, nothing really that unreasonable for a dude cutting weight. He’s also in Brazil and sometimes the food there can do funny things to people that aren’t used to it. Let me tell you though, I don’t like Rumble. I think he’s kind of a shithead, and I hope Vitor destroys him.

If the ufc didnt need to have this fight to still sell pay per views it would have been cancelled…and the fact that vitor wants to fight in rio so bad he has to pass better judgment in sake of his heart and prolly would never live it down if he didnt fight in rio let alone if he retired without fighting in brazil again…it just shows the true heart and warrior mentality of vitor to still want to take the fight…fock aj and his excuses..he just another example of a guy who does not have the skill to compete at his natural weight and thus has to cut so much to be so much bigger just to give him that mental advantage…they should just do what most states do with ammy’s and make them all weigh-in the day of the fight.

This is the 3rd time now that dude has been overweight. Dana is in a tough spot because Rumble is talented and generally goes in to finish guys. But at the same time, Dana does not tolerate dudes coming in to the weigh-ins over, like they didn’t prepare to put on a show. Should still be a good fight. Maybe Rumble drove the porcelain bus after eating something in Brazil and then overhydrated to compensate?

I’ve seen the weight in, AJ is not fat at all. Actually the man is ripped.

The fact is more that he should be fighting at Light heavyweight.

The fact is most fighters want’s to bash their opponents, but none of them wish to get their rear end handed to them, brutally.

Do to others, what you don’t want being done to you.

Easy fix, drop weight and go fight a lighter category. Some succeed, some failed.

The game is simple, make the weight in the class you’re in.

If you let them fight this way, you might as well do it no weight class, or less >title< class. remove the "middle".
