Taekwondo should be removed from the olympics, what a joke.

All that hard work over from a miscommunication. Too bad it will be his last time. And the fruit prancing around with his flag, what a f**. It’s time Taekwondo goes away as a sport. It was almost removed from this year’s Olympics, but it just barely survived an inclusion vote.

With all the reversed decisions, the judging f*** ups, this dude may have well kicked Taekwondo out of the Olympics.

Good riddance, it is the most useless art on this planet. The commentator said it “spiritual.” There is nothing more contradictory — be spiritual and then violence? Clearly, this guy was trained to kick the referee in the face. It’s useless. Use it in street fights, don’t waste time of people watching Olympics.

If a violent sport wants to be included, include MMA. Be straight up.

They need to include

I do not respect that Martial art anymore, it is a system of greed and disrespect. TKD should be banned from the olympics.

Tae kwon do is ok for the olympic games, MMA would be too much for some people.. They should include jiu jitsu at least.

greatking Says, in 8-23-2008 at 17:56:38 from

So the guy kicked the referee in the face, which was a bad call on his part, but I can see his frustrations. You train for at least four years to get to the games and then you’re disqualified over stupidity. Since when does ref not call the shots in the ring, since when does the referee not ask if the competitor can continue or not, when his recuperation time is up? Damn Olympic bull.

Now for everyone comparing MMA to TKD, what is wrong with you people? TKD is Martial Art, MMA encompasses all Martial Arts, and thus the word, Mix Martial Arts, came to be.

The guy is a coward. I can’t believe he wasn’t arrested on the spot or taken down by security. Had that been a spectator they would have been pinned to the ground and handcuffed.

Have to agree with an earlier post – not much of a kick to the head if the ref is still standing. s***, had that been Rampage, the ref would have hit the great wall and gone right through it to Mongolia.

Niv Says, in 8-23-2008 at 23:55:55 from

This guy should be banned for life. What he did is not acceptable in any organized sport.

If the rules are what it appears to be, the ref did his job and that’s unfortunate for the Cuban. As for the other fighter jumping around for being awarded the medal, what is wrong with that? He worked for years on achieving the same goal, it may not be an ideal way to win, but win he did. Congratulations to him as a gold medal in the Olympics is something that is a dream for most people.

Now as for mma being an Olympic sport, why not? They can bring it back under the name Pankration as the ancient Greeks did have Pankration as an Olympic sport way back around 680 B.C. It’s the original mma why not call it that and come up with standardized rules for all sanctioned organizations to follow. I think it would be great but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.

Most of your comments are very immature and naive.

You should be looking at the person who did the act and not the sport. The person who did the kicking was in the wrong, not the sport. If it were the sport we would be getting rid of hockey, football, basketball, etc….

capital L Says, in 8-24-2008 at 01:08:08 from

“Now as for mma being an Olympic sport, why not?”

Because the IOC is very uncomfortable with combat sports. Boxing and TKD are done with headgear, the Judo rules are crafted almost exclusively for throws, and wrestling is of course very regimented. It is really incredibly unlikely that we will ever see MMA in the Olympics, and even if it is it will probably be in a format that will not please the sort of people deriding point-based combat competition.

To restate that for absolute clarity: all the forms of combat sport represented in the Olympics utilize explicitly point-based rule sets. Therefore, unless you can devise a form of point-based MMA that you’d even really want to watch, don’t expect to see it approved by the IOC.

anon Says, in 8-24-2008 at 01:20:54 from

wow you guys need to chill with the tkd hate. i dont find the event entertaining either, but i dont see how you can even begin to make comparisons with mma. traditional martial arts are about improving yourself, not beating the s*** out of people for the sake of it. that in itself, has its own entertainment value of course, and thats what mma is for. to the ignoramus who said watching the women is awful, you pretty much dont understand martial arts at all i guess? its not a street fight, theyre not -trying- to hurt each other. in any traditional martial art, trying to hurt your opponent means youre a dick who has no place practicing the art in question.

Great White Says, in 8-24-2008 at 02:33:51 from

What an idiot – I agree this guy should be banned for life – and his coach should be held some what accountable too.

Rules are rules and we may not like them but there the first thing you should know off by heart before you even think about competing in any event, especially one as notorious as the Olympics.

To take your anger out on the referee is insane as he’s just doing his job.

I really think his coach should have taken control of the situation but instead he clearly made it worse.

Hey look on the bright side at least out of all this we got a some what comical moment at the end, he was having some kind of retarded victory spazam.

MMA should totally be an Olympic sport without a doubt – it would be an awesome event – but to get it there all the fat cats have to line there pockets first.

Is tae kwan do a sport or a martial art?i feel that if a martial art is made into a sport, that it should maintain its practicality as a means of self defense.like in jiu jitsu you can render your opponent defensless in competition.in boxing, kickboxing, and to the more complete extent, mma,a means of self defense is put into practice within a competition.now judo is based upon throwing your opponent, which has practical applications to self defense.now tae kwan do however is useless as a means of self defense.throw a bunch of weak kicks at a strong attacker and you will get killed.to the people who are mad that we are bashing tae kwan do,at least acknowledge that the reason we have a problem with it is that it blurs martial arts with sports to such a degree that there is no practical means of self defense within the sport.and deep down, anybody who loves martial arts considers this the same as whoring out their mother.taking something so honorable and turning it into a joke. Replace tae kwan do with jiu jitsu

3. 1 minute in spanish= 1 minute in english and the clock was running down on the board, don’t use language as an excuse
4. your dick won’t get any bigger by screaming how much stronger, tougher, meaner mma fighters are
5. in any competition you prove your worth (how much of a man you are) by respecting your opponents and the rules, otherwise…

1) Anyone making excusses for that cuban fighter is an idiot. 10 sec. warning was called, that should have bee enough for him to get ready and continue if he could. Thats the rules and thats why he was DQed.

2) There are alot of other events that should be removed from the Olympics other than TKD.

table tennis (ping pong) & POWER WALKING are a couple of them.

Red X Says, in 8-24-2008 at 04:23:35 from

I agree with most people saying that TKD should be dropped from the Olympics.

Competition TKD has been completely neutered and is probably one of the most boring events in the world to watch.
I feel that MMA should be kept out of the Olympics though. If MMA were to be included I can see it going in a similar direction.
Commissioners would swarm on it to make it safe and family friendly.
In the end it wouldn’t be the MMA that we all know and love anymore. It would be this strange new MMA-Lite.

As far as submission grappling goes though FILA in association with BWA are currently lobbying the IOC to consider it for 2012 in London.

I was followed when i took out money from an atm when someone tried to sucker punch me from the back..i broke his nose and swept him. Not practical? If you knew the rules of TKD tourneys, it is a technical sport which involves speed, accuracy, and knowledge. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO INCLUDE POWER. i respect all martial art forms and continue to study. TKD is as useless as that acrobatic karate crap where they do all the fancy twirly weapons work and artsy fartsy kata. Why waste goood time of your life studying a completely benign martial art like TKD? If you want to go to the olympics, at least get into wrestling or Judo. TKD… What a waste of time.

disco Says, in 8-24-2008 at 23:03:20 from

Disgraceful, and if you can’t hurt an old ref who isn’t defending himself with a headkick, you learn how effective your martial art is.

The Olympics needs a total review of its Martial Arts program. Remove Boxing, TKD, GC Wrestling, Freestyle Wrestling and Judo. (Maybe keep Judo I’m not sure).

There should be:

- MMA, under its original name during the ancient Greek Olypics of Prankration.
- Muay Thai Kickboxing, which is the best striking system
- Submission Wrestling (No Gi) as the best wrestling system

That way you have the best striking, the best grappling, and the purest combat sport. Maybe there is still a place for Gi-based throws of Judo – maybe.

Keenanator Says, in 8-25-2008 at 01:12:14 from

It is the attempt to remove subjective expertise from the judging process that has killed boxing and TKD as Olympic sports.

The 10 point scoring system has survived in real boxing (and adopted by UFC and others in MMA world) because – with experienced judges that are properly scrutined – it works better than anything else.

There are TKD fighters that can in fact pack quite a wallop with their kicks (and punches, which don’t seem to exist in the olympics) but as has happened with boxing, they don’t can’t take the risk of attempting power shots because it opens them up to pitty-patty counter punches and kicks. Two little pitty patty punches count for twice as many points as one bone-crunching punch (or kick) with the new ridiculous scoring system.

I would love to see UFC-style MMA in the Olympics. The athletes tend to have tremendous integrity – UFC doesn’t have the incredible history traditions of TKD which is all about respect and reverance for one’s opponent, and yet you won’t see a UFC fighter kicking a ref in the head.

I learned TKD as a kid (MMA wasn’t something known or talked about at the time) and it was all about the respect – any disrespect and you were out of there – money back and we don’t want to see you.

This year’s olympic TKD was a pretty sad spectacle, I watched one fight with a Canadian woman and on my scorecard she won the fight about 25-17 but it ended up 0-0 including an overtime round!!!! RIDICULOUS!!!!

Does anyone have ears here? The ref clearly announces “Ten Seconds” and two seconds later the times up. There should have been 7-8 seconds left after the warning. A ban from the olympics don’t matter much when your hitting 40. Having them erase all his previous records from the history books probably does.

But totally, replace Tawekwondull with MMA for 2012 man!

He should control his anger….if i don’t fully understand the rules and all of a sudden i lost…i would of done the same. and this cuban guy..he’s a sore loser..blame him not taekwondo!

“The Olympics needs a total review of its Martial Arts program.

- Submission Wrestling (No Gi) as the best wrestling system.”

Do you really think the IOC is going to replace what they have–point-based punching, point-based kicking, point-based throwing, and point-based grappling–with MMA, Muai Thai, and Submission Grappling? Don’t get me wrong I think that would be more interesting to watch IN THEORY, but there are several important factors standing in the way:
1) The IOC is quite uncomfortable with combat sports, hence the head-gear, body padding, and restrictive rule sets.
2) The IOC “follows” sports– it doesn’t “lead.” Your scheme does not have the sheer number of potential competitors as the overall system today does.

Also, Greek Pankration allowed small joint manipulation, so it’d probably be best to stick to the Mixed Martial Arts moniker.

MMA GIANT SILVA Says, in 8-25-2008 at 15:18:42 from

Im not surprised Cuba generally cheats the Olympics in every sport almost.

They should do a rigorous examination of all Cuban Olympians which goes well beyond the investigations of regular Olympic athletes.

Cuban athletes should be examined like they are examining the age of the Chinese girl.

They still use professionals in boxing, baseball, and any sport in which they could foresee somehow winning.

This guy embodies what a Cuban Athlete is. He/ She is a snake working professionally for Cuba.

I hope they eliminate the sport and eliminate Cuban athletes for the next games for excessive cheating

Remember this is WTF which isn’t the oridginal TKD.
ITF is the oridginal, where hands also are used.
And the referee was a tkd trainer some yeras back, he actually began to dodge the kick when it came, he said that in an interview.
And for those of you how thinks tkd kicks are weak, it has been proven to be the hardest kicks in any martial arts if done properly, if you dont belive me, look it up on the discoverychanel.

Regarding TKD, maybe they should expanded it to include different styles and modalities, like group fighting. This way Mexico will surely get more gold medals. Why should American swimmers have all the fun?!

John Sharp Says, in 8-27-2008 at 07:01:17 from

In don’t justify his actions in anyway but still i must say that was another example of how things in both the scoring system and overall rule system must change. What’s with the 10-second-out-disqualify bs ?! The refs should proceed as in boxing – ask the guy if he can go on see if he is adequate then decide.Still, yes the coach and Matos should have been watching the clock. As far as the “Taekwondo sux” object goes it is probably the best and most difficult practiced martial art of which I have nothing but respect seeing first hand how difficult it is to go against someone experienced in it. However I must agree what we’ve been seeing the last 10 years really hasn’t been taekwondo. Matos must be sanctioned (in what way they decide ) but banning him for life is not right. It should not be done to any fighter or athlete. And the Kazakhstan fighter? Well that was probably even more disgraceful than what Matos did. He wiped the floor with you. You really should just shake the ref’s hand and step off. No one saw you bouncing like that when you should have. Well at least now they know what your national flag looks like, right?

You don’t disrespect another discipline because you think yours is better. If you were disciplined in anything you would know this. But by all means keep talking trash. Show us how ignorant you are.

Olympic TKD (WTF) is a sport. I don’t know why a good amount of you guys want it banned from the Olympics. It’s the only chance some countries have of winning medals. It’s a shame that a number of athletes this year were disrespectful like this. Poor sportsmanship ftl

Mike Says, in 8-28-2008 at 05:08:42 from

The Kazakhstani believe or not really did win. It was obvious that the cuban fighter was too hurt to continue and was stalling for time. The cuban knew the rules, he’s been here before in 04. Oh btw, it is customary to wave your flag after medaling in an event. Did you not watch the olympics? And I also don’t think that the cuban wanted to knock the ref out, he wouldn’t have used a front snap kick (front roundhouse kick) to do it. He would have used any variety of kicks generated from the back leg or simply he could have just simply punched him in the face.

NO. Bad form. If it were me, I would be ripping myself up for having attached Anyone in anger and not self defence. Hard to forgive. BTW, TKD is a martial art for self defence and improving your physical abilities & confidance. It also has great practical use in a street fight. Don’t think so? I practice Tea Kwan Do and judo, and I was looking forward to watching it in the Olympics. Unfortunately I missed in and now all I can find is this video of one guy kicking a ref in the face, and another one jumping around like a little bunny. As for those of you who are complaining about the fact that Matos didn’t knock out the ref, you should be glad that he didn’t, and like Mike you can tell that he wasn’t trying to. If he had tried he could have easily. Those who think that Tae Kwan Do isn’t a serious martial air, feel free to test out your theory in front of a well aimed kick with some power behind it. It might just change your mind.

What the hell is the deal with bouncing around on your toes for two hole minutes and pumping your fist after half-assed landing a shitty kick. Pay a visit to our school and get your ass handed to you. What a disgrace; TKD is one of the most awesome arts to behold when performed by real artists.

Nometet Says, in 10-30-2008 at 11:31:47 from

Those saying Tae Kwon Do should be dropped from the Olympics should know – in terms of number of practioners, TKD is the most popular martial arts on the planet. More people do it than karate, judo, anything. So if you drop TKD, you should really drop the others as well. Oh, and that spiritual junk is pure fiction. I’m a red belt in TKD, sure there’s a bit of ethics, but no “spirituality”. People should learn more about things before running their mouths off.

When talking doesn’t work to fight injustice, violence is the next step. The guy tried making the ref understand that the judging was unfair and so resorted to kick him in the face. If the games have come to the point that the referees give obviously unnecessary qualifications and everything is rigged, then the Olympics are not worth watching. I’m glad Matos kicked the ref in the face and I’m glad he spat on the mat and that his coach backed hi up. He is the only one who had the balls to express how corrupt the Olympics have become.

okay.. say soccer/basketball/baseball… if the soccer player decides to kick the ref in the face because he got a yellow card .. you wouldnt be like “oh good job player! the ref. deserved it”.. if the basketball player decided to smash the ref in the face .. you wouldnt say “ooo good job for doing that..what a bad foul”… if the baseball player threw the baseball and broke the refs teeth .. etc etc.. you get what I am trying to say…

(if u say .. “yea I would do that”.. then I hope u guys dont play ne sports)

Just think before saying nething.. fukin retards

and why is the MMA s*** coming out all of a sudden? tae kwon do is like an art.. where its designed as a sport… (they teach different tae kwon dos… for fighting purposes and for sporting purposes) so calm your small dicks down and let MMA rest cuz you retards fuked it so much

mmaInTheOlympicsLOL Says, in 5-1-2011 at 22:32:42 from

FYI … at the current state of MMA there is no way fighters could compete in the olympics. Imagine any MMA fighter fighting 3 fights in less than 3 weeks, that’s outrageous, there is no time to recuperate for injuries sustained. When the fighters are standing on the podium they probably wouldn’t even be able to see out of their eyes and not to mention all the cuts/bruises on their faces. In essence, MMA probably would have to implement thicker gloves and head gear which detracts from the original joy in watching MMA.

If any sports are going to be removed, I think that s*** where they throw things in the air and twirl ribbons around should be tossed out. And any events that require a judge’s personal call and not based on a point or time system.

As far as TKD being in the olympics, it’s one of my favorites to watch. Check out Moon Dae Jung’s 2004 Olympic Gold win over Greece and you can see the true power and speed of tkd.

Let’s be clear, if Cuban officials don’t see at least a that level of reaction against a ref they’re not supportive of the athlete. Unfortunately, island “sports honor” doesn’t control international rulings: This ban for life means Matos will suddenly lose his daily square meals, something to do all day, and his head filled with “guapo”! He’ll become yet another frustrated street thug on the island.
