but you have a different mindset, you’re looking for a winner in that time limit. And I don’t disagree, for the sake of the sport there should be a scoring method somewhere. But at the same time it sucks to see someone lose by a point, or an advantage in bjj. (and I think you’d say the same in wrestling). The fact there was control, in the mindset of Ryron, seems to mean nothing. As long as he can’t be submitted, he CAN’T lose, and therefor, is just as good as Galvao.

But all in all, Galvoa was pretty whiny, those were the rules, and he accepted them when he came in

SOOOOO easy to control people with the gi, so defensively, if you just wanted to chill out, the gi allows that.

Also not being able to finish does not mean that superiority is not present. For example in a boxing/kickboxing or MMA match, one fighter could clearly show domination and destroy their opponent but not knock him out (MMA example Jose Aldo vs Urijah Faber).

In wrestling also, you can show superiority but never get the pin (somewhat rare in high level competition)

@Portuga-you miss the point of the event and dont understand ryrons jiu jitsu. besides, about the last 5 minutes ryron was more agressive because he accomplished his goal of letting galvo know he cant submit him. it was a beautiful match technically and philosophically on ryrons part. i just wish galvo wasnt such a big baby at the end. lost some respect for him there.

You kind of have to realize the point of a format like this though. What good is your position if you can’t submit someone in it? How are you a better grappler?

Rgood, Ryan defended the whole time didnt have anything positive to give during the fight, just defend, defend, defend. It was obvious Galvao was a superior grappler to start with, but if you come to a fight with that mindset, what is the point. Nothing was proven apart from the fact that his guard was like butter for Galvao.

it was a draw because this was a submission only match… if there is no submission, then there is no winner.

aww man I have been waiting to see this for so long. Then I come here and the vide has been removed by user. C’mon its just a BJJ match. But I hope this draw gives a little more credibility to Ryron Gracie. I thought he had what it takes to pull out the win but I guess a draw with Galvao is something.
