Speechless…to be fair Boner was a rather bizarre choice of opponent, but it was still amazing :)

I said it beofre the fight,Bonnar had no real chance except for a lucky punch but vene that wouldn’t have worked Silva let him punch him in the face.Silva is the GOAT no matter what people will say.

ZW Says, in 10-14-2012 at 01:47:03 from

An out of shape Silva toyed with Bonnar up until he crushed him with a knee which left Bonnar crumpled on the floor. I hope the UFC can convince Silva to fight Jones before he retires.

Expected result, but was still a great performance from one of the best, if not the best fighters of all time. Certainly the most devestating striking I’ve ever seen from in MMA. Not too fond of the ‘clowning’, but I guess its all part of the show from Silva.

paddlin Says, in 10-14-2012 at 02:21:52 from

Whether you’re a fan or not….. That was absolutely insane, my mind was blown watching him toy with Bonnar, watching him take his best shots and not even bat an eye…..it’s just unreal. Thanks Bruno for the great post, I’ve watched it over and over again to just see the incredible technique that he displays in every move he completes.

Amazing. I think Anderson will fight Jone Jons, first the UFC must offer him a ridiculous amount of money. I’m talking Mayweather Pacquiao amounts.

Yomommamoto Norifumi Says, in 10-14-2012 at 05:13:26 from

The level of awareness Silva has of predicting opponents movements.

Bonnar had him up against the cage in a clinch and threw knees and tried take downs and you could see Silva anticipating it all and negating it let alone rolling with the punches and absorbing everything Bonnar tried to stick on him.

Dudes just on another level and if his reputation and performances don’t psych. defeat opponents he just does it physically.

Bonnar looked keen and looked to have learned from Sonnen’s approach of closing ground and maintaining wrestling pressure to shut down his striking but Silva’s own wrestling defense and positioning with that arm control to foot pick – F*** – rolling thunder.

Dude just bamboozles suckers and gets them blindly running picking them off at whim.

Weedman would get smoked like the cabbage he is.

No one in the history of the sport hits with PARALYZING power the way Silva does, causing opponents to literally curl up in a fetal position..not just any opponents, bad ass dudes with huge hearts who have never been stopped, even they get owned…a healthy Anderson Silva is the most amazing fighter the sport has ever seen, and thanks to Chael, he’s the most dangerous b/cuz his TDD is now better than ever….careful what you wish for (i’m talking to you Weidman, Bisping, Belcher)

Silva is the man hands down. It’d be unwise to take on Jones as we all know Jones is very much a younger Silva. Dana is just trying to line his pockets more as usual.

Marty5 Says, in 10-14-2012 at 08:50:40 from

I’m a huge GSP fan, but he would destroy him with reach alone. 180lbs is not the catch weight good for GSP, closer to 175 lbs, making it harder for Anderson to make would be the only thing helping GSP. I have this wierd feeling that both Anderson and Bones are scared to fight eachother in case they loose, so I can’t see us seeing that one ever.

Darren Says, in 10-14-2012 at 09:13:31 from

Fedor is the only one that can beat Silva. And beat him good.

PitfighterZ Says, in 10-14-2012 at 09:27:35 from

I love how he looked at his corner before he started the humiliation and just said “I got this!”
Same thing he did between rounds against Sonnen 2.
When you are that fast and that good, it’s almost like he is fast forward while Bonnar is in slow motion. Brilliant!

lefthooklarry Says, in 10-14-2012 at 09:30:14 from

Folks – It was Stephan Bonnar! Di you expect anything different? It wasn’t like he stepped up to fight the LHW champ or even the top tier of the LHW. They all say they want to fight the very best….. that’s not true in most cases. We saw this with Fedor, GSP, Silva.

It’s like boxing – they all want to protect their legacy. Silva now wants to fight a smaller fighter? GSP – really? The LHW he has fought are barely relevant in that class – not true contenders. Jon Jones and hell- put him up against Dos Santos – really test yourself! Quit picking smaller people or non threatening fighters.

There are a few fighters that will fight the best of the best – Couture truly wanted to fight the very best – He did – that’s why his record reflected a number of losses. He rarely fought can after can.

This main event was joke from the beginning and remains a joke now. To even give it much weight as an accomplishment for Silva is just silly. The words out of Silva’s mouth should be I want the LHW championship – you never hear that. What it is now is give me the smaller guy that hasn’t fought in two years!

lefthooklarry Says, in 10-14-2012 at 09:37:14 from

My second rant – Dana said MMA will be different from boxing. Giving these guys too much lee way. SET up the best fights and have them fight. Allowing them to choose or say who is worthy of a title shot or fight is boring to her and boring to watch.

So many super fights are talked about and come way too late in most cases. It seems to mimic the BS that we are accustomed in seeing in boxing. The truth be told, boxing does get round to setting up their super fights from time to time.

MMA fighters either come to fight or retire.
The sport to me is waning and these goofy main events that are true snoozers only hurt the sport. It is hard to believe this fight was even a pay per view event. I believe it was a favor to Silva too throw him an easy fight to say he fought in the LHW with Dana hoping Silva will take Jones fight and a favor to BONNAR in giving him a last big payday in the UFC.

Mr. Blah Says, in 10-14-2012 at 09:55:34 from

Is it me or are the pay per views getting worse and worse. If Dana White wants to “give the people the fight they want,” why doesn’t he step up and make the Jon Jones vs Silva fight happen.

Bonnar….really? is that the best they could do?

PitfighterZ Says, in 10-14-2012 at 10:32:51 from

Silva v. Jones will probably happen when the money is right. I think both Silva and Jones are being so adamant against fighting each other, so they can make the Zuffa give them a ridiculous contract with huge cuts in sales, etc.
While they mount that, Silva can make a fortune out of GSP and Jones can bag some cash with a couple of fights (Hendo/Machida and Gustaffson).
It will probably be Silva’s retirement fight. The biggest f*cking event in the history of MMA. Right now, they need to build Jones up. He is not yet as popular as GSP and Silva. They need to make Jones more liked/reviled that people would put a lot of money to watch this fight.

snype6969 Says, in 10-14-2012 at 10:33:22 from

screwballhk Says, in 10-14-2012 at 11:10:30 from

It isn’t like people are lining up to fight this guy. BTW, Bonnar was on a win streak in the 205 division (most stacked). How does that make him a can?

screwballhk Says, in 10-14-2012 at 11:11:06 from

Oh yeah, Silva would have to vacate his middleweight title just to fight John Jones. Why would he do that if the money wasn’t right?

B Pro Says, in 10-14-2012 at 11:59:03 from

Unless Steven Seagal starts working with Jon Jones..which I doubt he would…Jones’ ass is gonna get humbled by Silva. He’s adding shyt to Anderson’s and Lyoto’s game some of which he likely displayed on old Bonnar here. Jones is on borrowed time.

B Pro Says, in 10-14-2012 at 12:09:36 from

I can’t believe Bonnar didn’t s*** on hisself. Ouch!!! Maybe he did. Never been stopped before…right? Silva…P4P…G.O.A.T.

PitfighterZ Says, in 10-14-2012 at 12:15:52 from

@screwballhk: that or Jones would have to accept a catch weight fight like GSP v. Silva. The problem is that nobody even mentions that because nobody believes that Jones can make 195. If Silva fights GSP he is the one who needs to do the sacrifice, being the heavier fighter, but if he fights Jones, people still want him to be at disadvantage? Great logic! Silva is the older, more accomplished, and more respected fighter among the 3 of them. Why does he have to be the one moving around and not the others?
It’s never as easy as people want it to be or they would have done it earlier.

FailSonnen Says, in 10-14-2012 at 16:04:46 from

Financially speaking, its a gun jumping move for Zuffa to set up a Silva vs Jones fight now
Jones is creating a legacy while Silva already has a legacy and so does GSP. GSP also needs to get past Condit and we need to see him fight Nick Diaz.
There’s also Bisping, Weidman and Belcher to go through for Silva, and Gustoffson, Texiera, Henderson, Chael and Phil Davis for Jones. I’d even like to see Griffith vs Jones just for the lulz.

jones would win because he wouldn’t stand there and punch him like bonnar. he’d take him down and silva wouldn’t be able to get up. silva is a much better all around fighter though without a doubt but he’s a middle weight champion and that’s his weight class

DrDoom Says, in 10-15-2012 at 01:01:06 from

I can’t help to feel that AS is a tad overrated. He’s rarely been matched up with really dangerous opponents who are also well-rounded fighters. He gets a Chael who is good with takedowns but weak in gnp, Maia who’s great on the ground but weak standing, or Griffin/Okami/Cote who are slightly above mediocre. I’d like to see someone of Rory MacDonald caliber face AS and see what happens. I suspect we’ll see an AS that doesn’t look so hot.

UFC really should put this fight together before its too late!! everyone should chew dana’s head off until he makes that fight happen. I don’t wanna see gsp vs Anderson because Anderson is way bigger than GSP and it wouldn’t really be a fair fight.
