Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin Co-Headline UFC 101

BJ Penn will try to defend his UFC lightweight crown for the second time against number one contender Kenny Florian, and UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva moves up to the 205-pound weight class to take on former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin.

Silva owns the longest consecutive win streak in UFC history at nine, also the UFC Middleweight Champion (24-4) has tied the UFC record for most consecutive successful title defenses at five, beating the likes of Dan Henderson, Rich Franklin, Patrick Cote, and Thales Leites along the way. The 34-year old native of Curitiba, Brazil is not satisfied yet, so he is moving up to the light heavyweight division once again.

At least Forrest is pretty scrappy. I doubt he’ll win, but I’m sure it’ll be an interesting fight nonetheless. I can’t see him scootching around the ring on his back the entire fight anyways…

This is a horrible match up, Forrest is babbage straight garbage. Sorry i really believe forrest is not gonna last very long and he is gonna be out of the ufc in a year. No knockout power, his ground game will not beat Andersons, all he can do is fight anderson for 15 min well unfortunately thats not gonna happen, his stand up is kind of sloppy and if he throws a leg kick anderson will do the james irvin. Sorry what you all think but forrest has absolutely no chance. sorry to break to you all.

a more difficult fight for silva then many spider-fans would think. i think itll be his toughest fight yet. i felt forrest had a good shot at beating rashaad till he carelessly got caught. he also made rampage look bad. two big 205lb names he looked impressively competitive against win and lose.hes got the size,strength and cardio to smother,wear and tear,and make silva work in this fight. AND hes not afraid to get dirty and is tougher than leitas.

Don’t feel sorry for Forrest… he loves getting punched in the face. He bleeds like that almost every fight and that’s when he really shines. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have it any other way.

This is an interesting match up considering the size of Griffin, if gets gets top possition I wonder how Silva will deal weight of Griffin can’t imagine plus forrest has good BJJ skills and who knows he might catch anderson with something still forrest has to get it to the ground to have a chance. If Griffin desideds to play a stand up game he’s in deep trouble he has no sting behind his punches atleast not from what he’s shown so far in his career.

Forrest will win this fight… its tough weight class for silva, and moving up as may think is the best decision as nobody can beat him in 185, might slow him down as compare to the natural weight for Griffin… but i’d love to see this. Forrest stand up is not too bad but he’ll need to be better than good. Good luck to both men.

I personally think they chose Forest b/c he wont back down. Silva has been complaining that no one wants to engage with him. Thinking back on the Griffin/Bonnar fight, I think this will be the perfect guy for Silva to trade with.

I just can’t believe there’s not a single 185 pounder who can beat or even compete against Silva. The chink in a striker’s armor is to injure their lead leg or tire out their shoulder. It’s that simple. They need to pit a much taller opponent against Silva in order to overcome that reach and place a hurting on or tire out those body parts. Griffin is a decent choice to do that, but I just can’t understand why no one at 185 has figured it out yet. Kick his ass already so I can see some decent fights.

well it’s a very interesting fight, because silva s MAIN strength is his height and length, but this time forrest will be the bigger and taller man. And has way more strength. EM, honestly, everything’s always easier said than done. No one can land kicks to Anderson’s legs, matter of fact, he’s the one kicking opponents’ legs and checking them.

Turbor37, really? Weight and size have little to do in this striker’s fight, especially with the caliber of Silva. Forrest has power, Silva has speed and accuracy. They’re really the same height and reach, Forrest has more body fat and slightly more muscle, but he’s sloppy and slower.
