Silva does have a history of getting submitted unexpectedly in his earlier fights. Just look at Silva vs. Ryu Chonan with the flying scissor heel hook from nowhere.

But, to say he has no ground game is completely absurd. I don’t think the same thing would happen today, he’s a lot better now than when he fought in Pride.

That was a great transition, have to give it to the guy for that, but the spider has evolved since this fight, man, it’s sad to see people dog on silva when this was only his second loss. His first loss was his debute, but went on to win 9 fights most by tko before this one. However, silva only received to losses after this fight one to chonan, the other to okami and has gone on to become the best p4p fighter. On the other hand the same cannot be said about daiju, his record to date is 7-11-1. I think some people believe that great fighters don’t lose or cannot lose i.e. fedor, but when they begin to loose. Those same people begin to dog them, GOOO! Giants, Redsox, etc.

Silva is a great fighter and it’s inevitable that he will lose again, that doesn’t take away the fact that he is great at what he does.

That fight wasn’t that early into his career as Mefninja is stating either. He had a lot of experience in Brazil leading up to his career in Pride. Since leaving Pride he has been unstoppable, and is a credit to all of the great fighters he’s trained with in the past at Chute Boxe(Wandy, Shogun, Ninja, Cyborg, etc.)

I’m an American so UFC has the best p4p fighters, from Big Nog, Rampage, GSP, A. Silva, & BJ Penn. Yeah even though they have lost before, but websites still rated them in the top ten p4p.

We all know you think the UFC has the best fighters by a mile but what does it say when Silva has absolutely dominated the UFC and the best american 185lb fighters out there (and 1 205lb’er) but he can be beaten by two journeyman japanese fighters.

this was a silva ten years ago guys. to say he has no ground game is insane. here’s how i think he lost. bjj is different from japanese judo. there’s more of an one two three = c with the japanese style. it’s way more formulaic. bjj uses the same principals but cuts steps out to get a quicker answer. I think the style change is why a silva looked like a fish out of water.

Anderson Silva has worked a lot since this fight he’s a much better fighter. A fighter needs to loose every once in a while to stay humble I think this loss did Silva good, just like loosing to Ken Shamrock revitalised Bas Rutten.. Mefninja…. Matt Hughes lost to Thiago Alves, I think Alves consider to be outside of USA. Can’t say anything about Couture cause he fought exactly 3 fights last three years. Of course you have to contract with UFC to fight in the UFC, so all the win and loss are in the UFC. Tim Silva who is free agent, look what happen to him.
Definitely, I consider A. Silva to be in top 3 p4p but to rated him above Fedor, who destroyed a former UFC champ in less than a minute. If you wanna play blind man, go walk with the shepherd.
