I think Anderson wanted to be taken out. Look at how many of his last fights he goads people. He’s been talking about retiring for over a year now. I think this was his plan. Weidman couldn’t take him down after the first one,and if Anderson wanted to take it seriously, he would’ve picked him apart.

silva could have easily won you could tell he was way faster than chris but he is sick of keep winning so he in way wanted to lose, he deserved to get knocked out because of the stupid clowning. this is not some stupid game I can’t stand people that clown around and I don’t feel sorry for the clown at all, good for Chris!

electricDETH Says, in 7-7-2013 at 02:09:24 from

It bums me out that he got caught messing around instead of legitimately getting caught.

Also, I don’t think Weidman holds the belt for long. I think Bisping is a bad match up for him if he could ever get the title shot, but Belfort is going to wreck him…as long as the fight is in Brazil.

electricDETH Says, in 7-7-2013 at 02:12:18 from

It doesn’t make sense to me when people like CaptainObvious talk about how Anderson let everyone down for toying with him and he deserves this for toying with him. We wouldn’t all love him so much if he didn’t toy with everybody. That is why he is so great. He messes around and still destroys you.

I bet Chael Sonnen watch this fight and went, “Damn, if I hadn’t of postured up so high in my first fight with Silva, that could have been me getting that belt!” LOL…

Seeing Silva get knocked out after being so cocky, keeping his hands down, and pretending to be hurt, was a great feeling. Silva is a great fighter, no doubt, but Weidman did a great job of not falling into the Spider’s web last night.

lefthooklarry Says, in 7-7-2013 at 02:26:36 from

What’s wrong with you all – threw the fight? Clowning? That’s how he fights – it makes the opponent take the shot – he counters – he’s quick and he is accurate in throwing a pinpoint punch. The only thing is he went against a person that has the KO power.

If Weidman kept this on the ground – Anderson would have a swollen face and a loss. Don’t let the retirement thing or not fighting for the belt in the future blah blah blah is all goofy BS. He has 10 fights on his contract – if you are not going to fight for the belt why in the heck fight at all. He will be back – he sounded like this after the first Sonnen fight. He will be back. Once again – HE LOST THIS ONE STRAIGHT OUT – this formula has worked for him for awhile – just go back and watch them again – he is doing what Silva does. He did a little more than usual but why not. An fighter with less experience and Silva was trying to get in his head. Instead – Weidmen put a good ol American How R Ya right on the kisser.

bagboy Says, in 7-7-2013 at 02:29:13 from

All that stupid taunting reminds me of Nick Diaz. He did the same stupid stuff with Mia and now he’s back with more of the same. If this clown is really the greatest of all time, why does he have to resort to antics like this in order to “make his opponent frustrated and careless”??? If he just goes in there and kicks ass, he gains fans and a win. But he instead goes in, does this silly s***, LOOSES fans, and now ends his wining streak. I really don’t know if Chris can beat him in a rematch, but I sure hope he does, just to add another dose of humility to Silva’s plate! I like this kid’s personality better than Silva’s anyway.

straightAhead Says, in 7-7-2013 at 02:31:59 from

Let me be the first to admit i was wrong in my pick.

However, something smells fishy about that loss. I cant help but suspect he (Anderson) will make seriously more money off of the rematch and then he will lay the smackdown on Wiedman and then retire into Legend!

Wasn’t able to hurt Chris Weidman once….

lefthooklarry Says, in 7-7-2013 at 02:34:40 from

Weidman will hold the belt longer than you think – he is a bad matchup for Bisping or Belfort. He will have these two on the ground or he will KO them. It ll depends on where he wants to take it. Does he want to defend a fairly weak Middle Weight Division or take on Pierre or Jones? What I can tell is that he will accept challenges to fight the best and Silva may be the next fight.

IMO – It doesn’t matter where the fight is – Belfort loses to Weidman each and every time. How can Belfort be that much of a threat to him when Weidman has better ground skills that Belfort cannot defend? Heck – did you see Weidman put Silva on his back and hit him a number of times. Did you see Weidman KO Silva How is Belfort a huge threat to him at all – even in Brazil?

It would be like saying Bigfoot Silva had a Chance against Cain if he fought in Brazil. Bigfoot had no chance at all – no matter what Universe they fought in.

A.Silva robbed the fans tonight. These antics are not of a champion. The fans deserve to see someone defend the belt in a manner that shows that he appreciates its status. With antics like this people won’t continue to pay to see this guy clown around in the ring.

Niv Says, in 7-7-2013 at 02:50:15 from

Ok let’s give Weidman some credit here. He showed up to fight, he was landing some good shots in the first round easily taking it.

AS drank his own koolaid believing his own hype of invincibility and paid dearly for it.

If there’s a rematch I still don’t know who would win, at this point my money’s on the new champ.

Well done Mr. Weidman that was a well deserved win.

It’s been a great ride, Champ.

user Says, in 7-7-2013 at 03:03:35 from

Some of you people really think Anderson lost on purpose because he wanted to retire?!?!?! How does that make any sense? If he wanted to retire wouldn’t he just retire? I love MMA but most of the fans are uneducated morons who have no idea what they’re talking about.

pangea12 Says, in 7-7-2013 at 03:09:07 from

Oh…my…goodness! I was in San Jose and saw Fedor lose for the first time in person and the building went almost silent out of disbelief…this was totally different. The crowd was booing Silva after chanting for him. That’s really sad that he went out like that. It’s a tarnish on what that guy has accomplished. I thought Weidman could do it but how could you ever count Silva out.

hond2dciv Says, in 7-7-2013 at 03:17:26 from

AS got smashed for clowning, amen. No way Weidman vs. Belfort will be in Brazil. I’ve said it before: Weidman is like a stronger Sonnen with better grappling, finishing power, and real confidence. He will take down both Belfort and Bisping and beat them up on the ground.

skifri3 Says, in 7-7-2013 at 03:25:48 from

Chefraski Says, in 7-7-2013 at 03:28:19 from

I believe it was clear that Anderson wasn’t into it like normal, he was beating the guy and just stopped fighting seriously. I didn’t want to see him lose like that but that’s what he chose so.. He is still G.O.A.T and this loss will go down as questionable. Just like Mike Tyson, no one actually beat him. His desire changed and resulted in him losing. Chris did ok but Belfort won’t give him a pass

frontkick Says, in 7-7-2013 at 03:46:10 from

Is it just me? or idk maybe because im brazilian but on the post conference every time he answered a question he had a kinda smiley face on his face and always repeating Weidman is the best, he is the new champ and all that stuff, idk it sounds like he has plan this out, he will take the rematch and win the fight and keep the belt again. idk. Im not hating on Weidman congrats to him, but thats the feeling i got.

He pressed forward and knocked silva out,
Nothing more nothing less!
Why must everything be picked apart?
Why must you guys try to pass opinion off as fact?
The reality of it is,Weidman knocked out Silva, and no matter how many reasons you toss around, the only one that will stick is the proven fact that Silva lost.

OF COURSE Anderson had to lose the belt in the shittiest way possible. I thought MAYBE Weidman could grind him, sub him, or lucky KO him, but practically a f*****’ self inflicted KO!?

I had high hopes for Weidman, but not like this. After that first take down he looked terrible and gets a lucky KO that AS gave him while acting like a douche. UGH. I laughed and cried at the same time.

FedorFailsAgain Says, in 7-7-2013 at 06:21:11 from

WOW, everything about this fight didn’t make any sense. My first objection is that Chris really didn’t beat enough top fighters to even be in the cage against Silva. Secondly, Silva has NEVER taken his foolish antics to that level (the MIA fight didn’t even get this silly). And lastly the post fight interview, Silva sounded like he was reading a script of ‘catch phrases’ telling people he was done fighting for the belt, doesn’t even want a rematch? but not retiring and that Chris was ‘really the Champ’…This fight could have been fixed.

Major Syndrome Says, in 7-7-2013 at 08:20:33 from

In America’s darkest hour….a new saviour….

It’s his style. Deal with it like Weidman DID.

Otherwise STFU.

You can say Anderson was and could have continued on to win.

It did look like it could have gone that way.

He also could have got caught legitimately, many things could have happened but he got caught when show boating.

It’s his style, many people do it.

No one is a god and when it happens I guess you might expect them to think perhaps briefly “should I have been more humble” as we might think but we’re not the UFC Champion are we?

We haven’t defended the belt many times often against mediocre opponents…

I don’t think in an MMA world of out of control ego’s that it’s necessarily a matter of Anderson left wanting for humility.

Silva has never genuinely meant any disrespect to any of his opponents but that’s just my opinion at the end of the day.

He lost and was at pains to be reflective, appreciative and gracious.

Haters prolly gon hate.

But then they always will and kick their dog, bash their girlfriend and smash brews until they pass out in their bowl of corn chips….

UCantBSerious Says, in 7-7-2013 at 08:32:26 from

Silva didn’t throw anything and the few of you that believe that are idiots. Chris Weidman called it during the build up to the fight. He said Silva does this and most opponents are broken mentally because their tense and they see him doing things like that. He didn’t respect his opponent and he got knocked out. The look of disbelief on his face was not the look of someone who threw anything. The same fools who are taking the credit away from Weidman, are the same ones who were on this site talking about how Silva is invincible and unbeatable. He’s a man and a loss of reflexes and a complacent attitude caused him to lose.

petepetro Says, in 7-7-2013 at 08:46:13 from

he was a great champ but they all lose eventually.

People, that clowning is part of his style. Just like Roy Jones would clown then come out with a strike and Knock people out. Its dangerous but it worked for him. He didn’t throw the fight that’s ridiculous. He thought he could clown around and make Weidman commit to a mistake and then counter.

And to that guy who said he couldn’t take him down anymore…um he took two shots…the first was an actual shot the second he just reached in for Silvas legs, it wasn’t a real deep attempt at a shot

He doesn’t take this seriously. If he did, who knows. I seriously doubt many people will feel Weidman is the better fighter based on this, and honestly, its not fair to Weidman. He deserved to fight a serious fighter to see who the best in the world is, and unfortunately, get got a buffoon who was easily caught. The fans were denied a legitimate performance. EmJay Says, in 7-7-2013 at 11:22:58 from

It’s pretty obvious he threw the fight. Yes he ha taunted like that before but not as much as he did in this fight. then take into account the post fight interview… If he was taking this serious he would definitely wan’t a rematch and wouldn’t have given a speech like he was retiring or try to persuade people to respect weidman as the champ. His ego has gotten to big for the sport it’s a good thing he is no longer champion he just could have done it in a more respectful way.

@kungfu what about the bonnar fight? i’m pretty sure at one point he dropped his hands, backed up against the cage and let bonnar tag him a few times. this was no thrown fight, who in their right mind would want someone as dangerous and powerful as weidman to hit a knockout blow and then get 4 or 5 more free shots at their face. nobody would, he might have let weidman land a few shots to make him overcommit, but i guarantee he didn’t want or expect to be ko’d.

jumpnjive Says, in 7-7-2013 at 12:56:35 from

LOL and a big zzzzzzz. People people people – of all races, socio economic backgrounds and mma knowledge – take a look at Silva. HE came to fight – period. You are upset at his antics – he does this al the time. The mia fight he did this as much as well. he thought Weidman couldn;t hold onto his jockstrap. Was going to KO him, but that was wrong.

When Rogan is praising mim for his goofy antics and how he was different, he was correct. If Anderson won another fight using the Saturday Night fever Routine and fading back for a counter strike, all the AS fans would say He’s the best that ever has been. He didn’t count on one thing – Weidmen keep throwing and he couldn’t dodge them all. he faced a true KO artist and got clipped. End of story. his antics keep the fight on their feet where AS is the strongest. Smart plan as if it goes to the ground. Silva knows he’s would be in big trouble.

A thrown fight? Jimminy Cricket!

The fact is that he started clowning as usual but Chris continued attacking where most fighters would’ve stopped and bc of that AS was stuck and couldn’t move further back. He then got clipped and didn’t see it coming. That always results in a KO.

It almost sounded as AS played the ‘I’m done and want to retire BS role’ to make an excuse for why he lost. There’s alot of big questions that only a rematch could answer!!

I’m not a Silva fan. Hell, I wouldn’t even have watched 162 if I had to pay for it because I really have no interest in watching Silva fight and, to me, Weidman wasn’t really a name I recognized, not to mention that the other fights on the card didn’t really interest me.
With that said, I did watch UFC 162 and was disappointed because after the fight where it was obvious that Silva got caught clowning around instead of taking it serious, he gives a post-fight interview and it sounds like he really didn’t care to continue the burden of having the belt, after, what he said, he and his family are basically now financially set for life.
Its hard not to go away thinking that the fans were ripped off from watching a real championship fight because the “champ” became complacent and didn’t really care whether he won or lost.
Dana White is already calling people f*****g idiots for implying that the fight was fixed. Myself, I don’t think that the fight was fixed. But Dana White should address the fact that this Silva guy came into the fight as the champ but didn’t put world champion-level effort into trying to win the fight. Who wants to buy a PPV if the fighters aren’t going to give their best? UFC 162 was BS.

Silva certainly seemed tired of fighting and the pressure that came along with being called GOAT but I honestly think he got caught. I know jack about striking but it looks like that extra backhand by Weidman threw Silva off and took away his ability to slip the KO punch. Perhaps the results would’ve been different if Silva was more motivated and focused…

KO’d acting like a douchebag. Good for Weidman. Thanks once again Bruno for the upload.

dankarelli Says, in 7-7-2013 at 16:55:32 from

I agree with the angry sentiments here (most of them anyhow).

But ask youself this – why did he get knocked out? Was it because CW showed superior striking? NO. Did he outclass anderson in the punching department? No. He won because anderson silva gave his chin away. When they stood and traded, anderson was CLEARLY faster and sharper and you got the impression he could finish weidman if he just stopped f****** around…..

…which brings me to my point. CW didnt win because he was a better striker. CW won because he outclassed anderson – as a person.

But make no mistake. anderson eats chris for breakfast in the rematch. Unless of course anderson want to start behaving like a fool again.

KungFuLowKick Says, in 7-7-2013 at 17:34:00 from

In the Bonnar fight, he did it for a couple of seconds then he grabbed Bonnar and KOed him with a knee. In that fight, he let himself get tagged for 2 rounds. It’s like he was trying to clown Weidman by saying you can punch me all you want you won’t knock me out. Well it turns out nobody is invincible and you can’t let yourself get punched by a UFC title contender.

KungFuLowKick Says, in 7-7-2013 at 17:36:57 from

“who in their right mind would want someone as dangerous and powerful as weidman to hit a knockout blow and then get 4 or 5 more free shots at their face”

Who said Silva isn’t insane? We all knew he was crazy after the Maia fight. But did you actually watch the fight? In the 2nd round, Silva faked getting hurt, then he got hurt for real.

neverfront Says, in 7-7-2013 at 17:52:09 from

Silva bet the farm on himself to lose in the 2nd round by KO, while being generous at the SAME TIME and handing the belt over to Weidman, making himself look like a major dick in the process.

Pure genius. He really is the best ever. He is the UFC’s Harvey Dent!

klutch Says, in 7-7-2013 at 18:00:23 from

Silva will win back the belt at the rematch…. Dana already said it was a guaranteed fight if Anderson lost. but he deserved to lose… he’s faster than most fighters, but not as fast as he used to be. The hands down head dodge stuff was only going to work for so long.

dharmaboy Says, in 7-7-2013 at 20:58:05 from

Anderson deserved what he got. Should have taken Weidman seriously as a legit threat and paid for it.

now we can watch Dana push for a rematch like a money hungry slut that he is so that Silva will take it the next fight seriously and maybe not get KTFO.

I have been waiting years for this to happen.

Silva can go straight to hell , all you AS nuthuggers get a woman stay off the f****** sack juice.

lee Says, in 7-7-2013 at 21:10:53 from

The way I see this fight is he purposely wanted to lose, he not delivering knee on the clinched not punching much, he only want chris to get on it , I heard if your the champion there is special obligation in the contract, I guess silva istired of it

ssrobbi Says, in 7-7-2013 at 21:56:29 from

Anderson has done this type of taunting move in every fight and won. i think at this point it is a legitimate part of his style of fighting, usually getting people frustrated and opening up their defenses. For ONCE it didn’t work and all of you jump on him about it? I don’t think this was him not taking weidman seriously, or giving up…he got caught…it happens to every fighter eventually, if it happened again that two might have missed and the 3 wouldn’t have landed so flush.

Vancouver-98683 Says, in 7-7-2013 at 22:10:12 from

Silva got knocked out fighting his style of a fight. If Weidman were to lose or get put on the ground like all other victims. It would of made him a genius with his matrix style and everybody would say how amazing he is. Just a bad stylistic match up from the start. Rematch will probably end the same or a GNP end or decision by Weidman. In short – The better fighter won period!

James Says, in 7-7-2013 at 22:55:14 from

@kungfu “He did threw that fight” that quote threw me off cause i wasn’t sure if you belived that he got caught being foolish or he took a dive. i watched the whole fight its just hard for me to tell if he was trying to lure weidman into a false sense of security, or if he really was trying to make a joke of him by letting him connect. if he really was trying to make a fool of chris then he paid the ultimate price. but my main point was that no dive was taken. nobody would knowingly allow themself to get brutally knocked out.

Unreal, Anderson what the hell were you playing at you had that, stuffing the takedowns landing your leg kicks and strikes then you just turn into nick diaz x 1000

Shame man real shame, whether he comes back or not who knows but he had better come to fight..

vic77 Says, in 7-8-2013 at 05:59:20 from

Anderson threw it….. looks like some patriotic publicity stunt with Weidman wrapped in a huge flag both before and after. Prob trying to hype up the idiots, ur canon fodder, for the next war.

Dave Says, in 7-8-2013 at 10:20:36 from

as much as Chris is a likable down to earth fighter, I can’t see him holding on to that belt, Anderson is way better than him not just that but other fighters like vitor are better and faster too.

Joe Dog Says, in 7-8-2013 at 11:39:44 from

A wise man once said, “He who lets guard down gets hit in face” Bad game plan, Mr. Silva. Weidman was not about to get psyched out by such nonsense. Why this did not happen sooner is a mystery to me.

KungFuLowKick Says, in 7-8-2013 at 12:07:19 from

No I’m not a conspiracy theorist. We can clearly see he was out. He had his neck extended when he got caught and his eyes lost focus. And I’m 99.9% sure he didn’t go in there thinking he would get KOed, but in the end he let a guy with punching power have free shots at his chin and he lost. Like tallandsincere said, it’s like he turned into Nick Diaz but worst.

KungFuLowKick Says, in 7-8-2013 at 12:11:32 from

If you actually thought a couple of minutes about your conspiracy you would’ve kept that comment for yourself. If Silva wanted to bet on himself and get a s*** ton of money, he wouldn’t bet on a fight he’s only favorite 2 to 1…

subidoo Says, in 7-8-2013 at 13:47:34 from

Congratulations Mr. Weidman. This fight could have gone either way. Anderson was starting to open up and had Chris a little scared. He looked really nervous! But, Anderson had to do all that tomfoolery crap and get knocked out. Chris is good. You mess around like that and Chris will capitalize. Anderson just fooled around too much. I will miss him as champ.

costa200 Says, in 7-8-2013 at 18:55:17 from

Respect your opponent and keep your hands up at all times. This was bound to happen some day and it only looks bad.

Brave_Fencer Says, in 7-8-2013 at 21:25:22 from

As many in here, I’m a big Anderson Silva fan. When I saw him fight Chris Leben the first time, he was all about business and none of the showboating crap he displayed last Saturday. I might be the only one, but I got mad at Silva at the end of the first round cause he was overdoing it with his clowning crap taunting gestures. And after hugging Weidman and screaming to the crowd like a moron, I felt like he was going to lose. I was like “What the F*<€<€< are you doing? Focus already!!!! But Karma is a son of a gun!!! I'm still in shock! I would've rather like seing Silva lose in a real battle. This looked like a cheap kung-fu flick from the 70's. I must admit that Weidman tagged the former Champ right on the button though. Hail to the new king!!!!….for now.

sylvalant Says, in 7-9-2013 at 14:54:46 from

Fact is Silva was playing around by keeping his hands down on purpose and not countering, which made him lose to a slower opponent. If you guys think Weidman won against a half serious Silva because he’s a stronger fighter, keep deluding yourselves. Silva knows he’s giving himself a handicap by not defending with his hands. This kind of clowning and taunting only worked in the past due to his opponents having FAR inferior stand-up, not because it gives him some fight advantage.

freee Says, in 7-10-2013 at 00:49:11 from

Brandon Says, in 7-15-2013 at 02:22:19 from

Oh yea, the idiots with the “he lost on purpose” defense. He lost to a better fighter and I knew as soon as this fight was announced that Silva was done for. This was a bad match-up for him from the beginning. So let me get this straight… he got knocked out on purpose? He is a professional MMA champion and he just let himself get knocked out on purpose? So really you are making him look even worse apparently he doesn’t take MMA seriously. I am appalled at all the excuses made for his defense in his loss. He got KTFO and he was do for it a long ago he just got lucky especially against Sonnen EVERY round he fought him. Weidman is a younger and better version of Sonnen and he is undefeated and Middleweight champion of the world. He knocked Silva out and at the end when he could have ground and pounded him to death he started missing on purpose while he was waiting on Herb Dean to stop the fight. Congrats to the NEW long reigning champion Chris Weidman!!! better than Silva and he will beat him again even worse next time around…

Brandon Says, in 7-15-2013 at 02:28:07 from

Oh yea, the “this is just a build up to the next war” conspiracy theory. If this was some conspiracy for publicity to make this rematch so great don’t you think they would have made the fight a war all the way to the end with Weidman winning by the skin of his teeth by decision or by knockout in the final round? Give me a break weirdo’s.

Brandon Says, in 7-15-2013 at 02:33:32 from

He took Weidman VERY seriously and as it turned out he was right. Weidman beat him and that tom foolery is Anderson’s style and a weakness and strength at the same time. Weidman took advantage of the weakness by landing a shot right on the button.

Xhytype Says, in 7-19-2013 at 10:23:44 from

It was all part of his plan…Silva needed somebody undefeated to pass his crown to someone who will move all odds to keep his unblemished record. Weidman just came in the right time and place. Kudos to Silva! Congratz to Weidman! and more power to Bruno! =D
