Anderson Silva’s Knockout Punch On Forrest Griffin Compared To Muhammad Ali’s Anchor Punch During The Sonny Liston Fight.
Best video I’ve seen in a long time. Epic find, Bruno. Epic.
Although I respect Anderson Silva’s standup skills, but you can’t compare him to Ali.
In the standup game (referring to boxing here), Ali boxed and outclassed elite boxer, Anderson outclassed average brawlers.
Wow. Anderson’s was way cooler. He didn’t even have a backup punch on the way like Ali did.
its not the weight or power of the punch, its people not seeing it or expecting it that makes it that effective.
I fully agree with RearNakedSmoke, best video in a long time, deliciously vintage, elegant, emotional.. a jewel for the history
Yembo – I don’t think the creator of this video is saying that Anderson Silva is the same caliber boxer as Ali. It’s just pointing out the similarity with that particular technique.
@Yembo lol I love that you believe a former UFC LHW Champ to be an “average brawler”
Just give credit where credit is do. Ali never had to worry about leg kicks, or takedowns, both of which drastically change the dynamics of boxing.
Ali outclassed elite boxers
Silva out-clinched Rich
Out-stuck Vitor
And has really outclassed everyone regardless of where their strength lied.
btw, i’m a GSP fan at that
The two greatest in their respective sports.
nice, hard to believe any power is behind that kind of punch, and alis second punch misses by a long way, which means his first punch was REALLY fast.
My god he is that good. Jesus.
Wow, thats just ridiculous… dude is the matrix
really cool, thanks Bruno
that dude is not human…
Boring!!!
Great vid! Things to consider-your opponent is moving forward INTO your punch and the strike is on the “button”-chin/jaw…that combined with over committing and they have a problem…
I wish Ali were here right now. I’d knock this piss out of ‘em. I’m that badsass.
except it’s completely different. Anderson is a southpaw so his right hand is a JAB while Ali has a traditional stance, and the anchor punch is a CROSS
Anderson silva is good but in boxing he is ahunderd miles away from Ali.And i won’t even compare liston to griffin
Ali was hilarious. He invented trash talk that all these fighters try to mimic today.
Great video!
He is an amazing striker…
One not I don’t even fight but i know from watching that if Anderson puts his hands down during a fight your done, and add fuel to the fire do chase him – he is a great counter fighter.
but put him on his back and fill he’s face with punches an we have problems.
WAR CHAEL!
Anderson vs Sonnen 2 (sans Steriods)
who cares
how stupid are some ppl you can get hit hard with a power punch you see coming, its the ones that you dont see that get you…
Ali and Silva have the same gift: reaction speed. Don’t need to hit that hard or fast. You can evade from other guys punches and hit at a moment when the other guy is still busy doin his stuff.
@shocktime-Ali got a lot of his “s***-talking” ways from a Wrestler named Gorgeous George. That was Ali’s inspiration for a lot of how he did his promo…It’s funny because as a life long Ali fan I recognize that he did take that too far in some instances (Ali’s treatment of Joe Frazier was horrendous)…Regardless, Ali is the GOAT. Period.
Awesome.. just f****** awesome. Thanks Bruno!
Who doubts this man?? oh yeah chael
You know I never realized Anderson was a southie? he changes his stance so often I assumed he was right handed.
Hilarious, you can tell which of you all are die hard boxing fans that have still yet to fully cross over into MMA and get with the times. The point of the video isn’t to compare the boxing between Ali vs. Liston and Silva vs. Griffin. MMA is a COMPLETELY different sport. For everyone saying “you cant even compare Anderson’s boxing skills to Ali’s” is the same thing as saying “you cant even compare Ali’s MMA/Brazilian Jiu Jitsu/Muy Thai skills to Anderson’s”… I realize this sport is relatively new, but some ignorant people choose to live in the past. Keep with the times and post something of value, douchebags.
Fighters have to stop head hunting AS and go for the body. He almost trances/goads them into going after his head with all that movement, while his body stays static. Whoever fights him next don’t get pulled into this head hunting s***. Let AS dance if he wants to. Punish his body.
IMO, Anderson has a number of skills that help him outclass his opponent like iron-clad mental strength, the command of deceptive/confusing body movement, incredible rhythm, great footwork, unbelievable accuracy, etc.
Another skill I think he shows with many types of strikes (beyond punches) is a deep, natural understanding of body mechanics. When an opponent starts moving, he clues in to where they will end up quicker than other MMA fighters.
That’s another reason his style of making you hit him where he wants is so deadly. Not only does he know where your path of motion will take you once you start, and not only does he know where you’re going to try to hit, he also catches on real quickly as to what kind of strike it will be.
The man is easily the best ever in terms of martial skill AND he has a steel-trap mind. He is the modern day samurai.
And I personally doubt that going for the body could possibly end Anderson’s magic ride, tbh.
There is simply too much stacked against an opponent for them to win a striking match. And they’re not going to submit him either, obviously, so the only rational hope to beat him is try to Sonnen him, ie- lay on top of him and “stay busy” and do no real damage, hoping on a decision (he’s never takes any real damage on the ground), or to wait till he’s older and loses some of his edge.
The body shot just won’t do it.
I think we might be talking about this Anderson Silva guy for a long time! I remember watching his fight against Forrest and thinking how incredible he was. This man is extremely talented Striker. I love GSP man, I think he is also incredible. But I just can’t see him beating Anderson!
^^Easier said than done
If anything the video gives credit to Ali to both men, as Anderson surely was clearly inspired by Ali and Anderson is showing off the master boxers technique.
Amazing comparison ! AS truly is the Mohamed Ali of MMA.
By the way Bruno, I noticed you recently said on a post that putting money on a fight will make you enjoy it more than ever before. I myself really want to start betting every once in a while but i don’t know where to do that. Is there a site you would recommend me in particular ? I would really appreciate it. Thanx, amigo.
Bruno: Just go to Bodog here and sign up. the best thing about these guys is you can make small bets like $1 on each fight and keep yourself out of financial trouble but still enjoy the fun of Betting
Although anderson may not be the same caliber of boxer as Ali (impossible to tell, he could even be better), he is the Ali of MMA. He is untouchable and has done more for the sport than anyone since royce gracie.
His record is the best of all time but GSP is the better fighter, im not saying more exciting but if they fought he would win. Even though Sonnen lost he is also better than Anderson who got lucky in the 5th. As for Ali he is the second greatest behind the one and only Iron Mike Tyson
@ oz
Sonnen is a “better fighter” than Anderson???
I guess you’re right. His record speaks for itself. He’s 4-4 in the UFC while Anderson’s only 14-0.
Plus Anderson beat him. Tapped him out.
Plus Silva holds several records in the UFC including: Most all-time knockdowns in UFC history (15), No. 1 in significant strike accuracy (68.5%), Longest all-time UFC win streak (14), Best all-time UFC win percentage (1.000, tied with Cain Velasquez), Most title fight victories (10), Most UFC title defenses (9) and Longest reign by days (1,779).
But yeah, I’m with you. Chael’s a “better fighter”.
By FAR!
@oz
The notion of being “Lucky” in fight doesnt exist.Just like lucky punches dont exist.Anderson wasnt lucky with that sub,he kept a low guard all the fight and at then end he slapped a tringle with perfect timing and positioning. His intentions were to slap a traingle and he did it so where does luck come in place here?Just like when a guy KOs a “better” striker then him people will say its just a lucky punch. But it isnt the intention was to hit the guy he hit him and KOed him.Luck is something that has nothing to do with fighting
I agree Thx Bruno Truly Enjoyed. Alot of you are Sleep on Anderson … CHEER HIM HE is Amazing in our time Dont Hate on This Guy… What you are seeing will not be done in 5 years. Thats about how long it will take to beat his record.
Mike tyson would have kicked the crap out of ali. He was the greatest heavyweight champ that boxing has ever had.
Best video I’ve seen in awhile. Thank you, Bruno.
Yembo, I think you’re missing the point. It’s not about comparing Ali to Silva. It’s about dissecting the punch and seeing the comparisons. And you gotta admit: it’s a similar punch. Both beautifully executed. Both of their fighters were so zeroed in on their own knockout punch, that they didn’t see the punch coming.
Just brilliant.
Spider = Jordan of UFC, Joe Montana of UFC, Gretzky of UFC, Ray Robinson of UFC… (List goes on forever)
The other option and difference is that Liston ran around with a bad crowd and likely threw the fight.Forest would never do that.
What a great clip. The skill of martial arts…period. The best are the best and can always teach us something.
Cool video, but comparing Ali to Silva is a disgrace. Silva didn’t fight cans his entire career and proclaim to be the best. Plus Liston took a dive, the fight fans know this.
