Anderson Silva: The most overrated chin in mma history.

Not saying he can’t take a punch, just saying it ain’t iron and I don’t consider it one of his real strengths. His strength in this video is knowing how to take a punch…not enough fighters in the ufc know how to do this…i guess they don’t teach that in wrestling lol.

Yeah he is very good at taking punches (rolling etc.) not really an iron chin even though he does have a great chin.

I notice their is no highlights of when Marquardt rocked him, or when Sonnen dropped him… Anyone else see the caveman in him? if he didn’t pluck his eyebrows like a woman and grew his nap out?

Much like Tyson back in his prime, his skills are so captivating that you hardly ever notice how hard he gets hit. It also showcases the level of skill he’s been facing, ’cause hitting him I imagine is no easy feat. His willingness to take so many punches in practice is definitely a relic to his Chute Boxe days. Though we probably won’t be praising his chin if he ends up like Riddick Bowe, or Gary Goodridge.

newmmfan1 – he does have a good chin. it’s not one of his ‘strengths’ because he avoids taking punishment and can dodge punches. like you say he also knows how to take punching. but what does wrestling have to do with it? wrestling is about training your body to absorb and dish out punishment. if you’d ever done it I don’t think you’d knock it.

this is one of the reasons he is the champ and proves he is at the top of his division.

It seems like the old-school Silva never got hit that much. His reflexes are slowing down or something. He doesnt seem as crisp and precise as he used to be. Maybe its just the fact that his competition is getting better.

Agree with IKnives. Silva is relaxed plus his movement is amazing. He is moving away from nearly all of those punches.

Anderson is married to a hot ass wife and has 5 kids. Just cuz he has a funny voice does not mean he’s gay. Grow the F*** up children..

You don’t need a highlight video to show that Silva can take some punishment, just watch the Sonnen I fight. That said, Silva is getting older and will soon start to crumble.

Say what you want about Anderson Silva, but he has displayed some superhuman behaviour, there is no denying it.

@TheJrlocc, Yes Anderson Silva does have losses to his stats. Actually, if I recall when he used to fight in PRIDE organization, he loss twice, one in a spectacular way, against Ryo Chonen, who was on his way to loose the fight when he trew a flighing scissor / Heel hook, Silva tapped and loss the fight.

Again in PRIDE organization, He loss to Daiju Takase, got himself caught in a beautiful and quick triangle choke, no way out. Tapped and loss.

@newmmfan1, I agree on the “Rolling with punches” theory, that it is effective to avoid knock out our reduce the impact of the punches.

But I do not agree with your statement that Anderson Silva does not have a chin.

I’m sorry, an L/R punch right on the chin from Dan Henderson, and it made it look like nothing happened. Getting glinched and receiving power punches like it was nothing tells you 2 things.

This fighting can take pain, and stay focus, dangerous and on target. And he sure can take hard punches.

that being mention, it does that remove the fact that, any man can drop knees on 1 single punch. Sonnen proved it and others too.

But don’t count on that to knock him out! The word is “Knock” “Phase”, dropping knees is one normal reation to the body. Stunning you opponent long enough to open the can of ass wooping…. priceless.

@failsonner- diaz is great but as far as a chin he gets dropped in lots of fights, hes just a warrior and wont ever quit, but physically, his chin is not like BJ, anderson, mark hunt or other guys.

If you watch close, other than the first guy hitting him in the clinch, Anderson is rolling with all of those punches. None of them really connect directly. He doesn’t have an iron chin, he just rolls with them all to deflect most of the power. That is WAY more amazing than an iron chin
