like i posted before, no one will care because chael cheated before (having testrone levels above the allowed range due to his prescribed trt)and saying things that crossed lines before the fight. I am sure uncle dana will dismiss this as being a fight, and not a fighter using underhanded techniques that are soft enough not to get penalized but lead to a huge advantage during a fight, greg jackson style. now we have talented fighters with geniune martial arts skillusing the same bullsh*t that less talented, but “smart” road runners and lay and prayers. MMA is evolving again…

not surprised. not a good win at all for Silva. too much controversy. they honestly need to do it one more time. Siva both greased himself, and grabbed sonnen’s shorts numerous times after being warned. and the knee, whie legal, was just a cheap shot.

anderson also rubbed vaseline all over before the fight started,that take down could have made all the difference,but we will never know now.

I guess this proves it anderson had to cheat to win,if Chael would have got that take down he would have won.

What about greasing and kneeing a downed opponent? I don’t think Chael was going to win the fight but he did completely dominate Anderson in the 1st round. After they got sweaty and the vasoline got damp Chael couldn’t hold on to anything, and Anderson was holding his shorts. Then when he threw the illegal knee he was holding onto the fence. Watch the first Wes Sims/Frank Mir fight, same thing. Sims was holding the fence while delivering illegal blows to head of Mir. He got disqualified. Silva gets the belt.

Chael said he didn’t care bc he grabbed his shorts right back. But that’s all bs Chael was just playing nice at the post-fight press conference..

In reality these guys were good friends all along behind the curtains… you saw what Silva did after the fight. They both cashed in big time

Short pulling? are you serious? Chael sonnen got nicked in the face and went down like a sack of potatos. Greasing? Are you serious? Why the F*** would he need to grease to fight a guy who’s only weapon is a double leg takedown? If your opponent grabbing a bit of a short with 3 fingers is the reason why you lost a fight then you were never meant to win. Chael sucks. He is a one dimensional wrestler with good stamina and that about sums it. Anderson was healthy going into this fight and Chael Sonnen probably wasn’t nearly as strong as the last fight since I doubt he had 16:1 trt ratio this time around. Too many Americans on this website think defending Sonnen is somehow their patriotic duty. Stfu. Great Jiu Jitsu, great take-down defense and superb striking is what won this fight. Denial doesn’t change facts. As far as the knee goes honestly i was hoping it was an illegal knee to the face but too bad it wasn’t. asswipes like sonnen that’ll do and say anything to make a bit of money need to have their f****** faces re-arranged.

It’s unfortunate Silva grabbed his shorts. It did appear to stop the takedown. However, I’ve never seen a fight overturned for grabbing shorts.
Anyways, the knee was to the chest, the vasoline was rubbed off before the fight, and he didn’t grab the fench (the fench goes backwards during the strike).

you guys are ridiculous. trying any way possible to portray fail sonnen in a more positive light is just shameful. he’s a loud mouth cheating douche. they could fight 20 times, and regardless of any excuses anyone wants to make for him, sonnen would be lucky to get his hand raised even one time. Anderson Silva is one of the best fighters of all time. sonnen’s style matches up well and a ton of hype are the only reasons he ever even got a crack at Anderson. mark my words, if he doesn’t retire or go to pro wrestling or commentary, sonnen will hang around and get thumped on by middle of the pack fighters, just like he always has. the only reason he even got the nod in the Bisping fight is there are enough idiots out there that bought into the hype, and the UFC was seeing lots of dollar signs in a rematch between Silva and sonnen.

I thought the shorts grabbing as Anderson threw a punch (which landed) so Sonnen couldn’t back away was even more obvious.

will some of you just stfu about the knee. it was clearly to the body, there is no rule against “thighing” a grounded opponent, otherwise there would some shitty sidemounts.

It was still fun watching Chael beat his ass in the first round,those short shots had to hurt over and over again,but anderson is the worst champ in U.F.C history,and this just proves it.

Yes; Chael got caught cheating. He also dealt with the consequences. Silva blatantly cheats; doesn’t deal with the consequences.

Not trying to be an asshole or be the bringer of bad news, BUT, I’m not sure how some of you compartmentalize the violence in these fights. I know some people had to be desensitized in order to watch MMA. I used to get sick to my stomach when I’d watch the first 5 UFC’s with teeth flying, Royce ripping out Kimo’s hair from the guard.

Anderson is trying not to get his ass kicked. Don’t know about you, but I would do whatever I had to do in order to not get my ass kicked. The pain is real, although at the time most guys don’t feel it.

If anything Ive Lavine is to blame. Soon as I saw that he was the ref I said “oh s***, that’s a bad ref for this fight.” I’m not defending the whole shorts pulling, just trying to lend some understanding.

Almost everyone who fights a wrestler grabs the shorts. When your about to be put on your back (and laid on for the remainder of the round) you grab anything out of sheer reaction. Jose Aldo would have been slammed to the mat by Chad Mendez if he didnt grab the fence in Brazil. Even if they deducted a point from Silva for it, it would not have changed the outcome of the fight.

Anderson Silva got a legit win and for people stilll saying he did an illegal knee to the face…go watch WWE. Im glad Silva won because it shut Chael Sonnen up. First off, I have a strong feeling anyone saying the grease was “wiped off by the ref” have never had to apply Vaseline while training. Because if your familiar with Vaseline, you know a quick 2 second towel rub isn’t going to take it off. Go ahead try it, buy some Vaseline, rub it on your arms and see if it comes off. Furthermore, wipe if off, break a sweat and notice how it comes back.

Although, I admit there must not have been THAT much Vaseline, since he just took what was applied to his face and rubbed it on his body. But in my opinion, its FACT that he blatantly tried to cheat, just like he did in his fight with Vitor Belfort.

Too much controversy and cheating going on. And Chael was covering up and still defending when the fight was stopped. Early stoppage imo. The finish was just unsatisfying. I was hoping Chael grinds out a decision or Silva KO’s him. We got neither….

i love how these sonnen fans are using the grease as a reason anderson cheated chael, grease barely will help anderson, in fact it would help chael more because hes a grinder and the grease would help him when anderson tries to hold him from advancing. second, gsp greased way worse than anderson and gsp is a grinder so obviously it would help him more and it did v bj, yet im sure these sonnen fans dont admit to that fact. third, i hope bruno didnt bet on sonnen for the win but judging by all these anti silva threads im assuming he did.

I’ve grown to like chael a lot more. I knew he wasn’t going to complain about anything. I appreciated some stuff he said before the fight about how no one should feel 100% training for a cage fight, cuz even the nature of the training is dangerous. One time I read a long interview chael did and could not believe how humble and respectful and knowledgable he was. I think there is “camera chael” and “real chael”. (he probably realized the more crazy he talked, the more he got noticed and paid). Also saw the interview with eddie bravo where chael was high, sooooo good, check it out.
The thing I have against TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) is that the UFC allows a 6:1 ratio on the *off-chance that someone is one of the really rare humans that naturally produces way more testosterone than the average guy (who has a 1:1 ratio). So, if you go to a doc and say the right things and especially if you are in your 30s, it seems like, “oh yeah the dude’s getting older, TRT seems cool”, heck you could even say yeah his natural testosterone levels are below average, say .7:1 or something. But now since he has testosterone that he can give to himself, can’t he go way beyond 1:1 and get to 5:1 cuz that’s still technically acceptable ??? (Alistair was 14:1, that’s why he got in trouble and there was no weaseling out of it for him)

Sonnen does take downs from the waist down to double leggers. Your point is voided. Sonnen has one dimentional submissions which I’m sure Anderson wasn’t worried about. Since he got off the performance juice his cardio sucks ass as seen in the Bisping fight. The first round ground and pound sucked and non effective due to great ground defense. Perfect fights don’t go the way we want it to happen. Win is a win at the end of the day.
