Look at what Rashad did to the dummy with a north/south knee to the head(caved his skull in his brain).I would prefer losing a chunk of ear to an elbow then eating a full blast soccer kick or a nee on the ground while my head is pinned.The guy also probably had a cauliflower ear.It may have happened with a grazing punch or even a headkickc so it’s not a reason to ban a technic.

@KungFuLowKick- Dude, that was on Deadliest Warrior and they were using a dummy made out of ballistics gel. The reaction ballistics gel has when hit by anything other than ballistics is not accurate to what would happen to the human body. In a different episode a man easily decapitates one of said dummies with garrote wire, hopefully that puts things in perspective.

There have been no recorded serious injuries caused by knees or kicks/stomps to the head of a grounded opponent in the sport of professional MMA. The human body is not made of gelatin, a professional fight does not generally lay perfectly still waiting to be hit, and there are referees in the ring. The rule DOES need to be changed…Though we should keep elbows as well.

Cool! And, yes, cauliflower year has more to do with it than the actual elbow. I still think that one-elbow KO the the chin is the most vicious one Bruno posted so far. The other dude with the standing barrage of elbows was the second. This is a bloody third.

And I am with Sunfish Hero and dman on this one; just let people use everything. If you can’t handle MMA, go back to regular martial arts. They’re a cool, too, just not MMA.

That was a sick elbow strike, I’d have to go with the elbow Jones laid on Machida as a definite runner up. I’m good with the rules for the most part., soccer kicks and stomps I can definitely see causing some concussions and potential brain damage, knees and elbows are fine though.

@marvelous – I smell what you’re cooking, I miss soccer kicks/knees to downed opponent too. But getting rid of elbows is just ridiculous! Saying those fighters are nothing without elbows is plain ludicrous. You don’t think Hughes would have picked Trigg up, and running powerslammed him still?! Elbows are part of the arsenal, just like punches, kicks, and knees.
